You are exactly right. This was the beginning of a good essay on how the story of Spider-Man better relates to today's movie goer. But why oh why does he always have to insert some September 11th reference into every article lately? Spider-Man isn't about terrorists or government plots. It's not about solving the problems of the Middle East.

Spider-Man, just as Jon Katz wrote in the beginning of the article, is about a person considered weak in several areas is given superpowers and must decide how to use them. It's about coming to a realization that truly with great power comes great responsibility. Throughout the hundreds of stories, Spider-Man has always come back to this statement and it's meaning.

Either way, it's a bit early to compare one film to five other films that contain continuity. Will future Spider-Man films harken back to the theme of responsibility? Will the sequels be able to call upon those themes of having everything you want, but at what cost? Jon Katz should try coming back in a few years and rewriting this article to see which franchise is better at keeping it's mythos intact.

  18. So What? Stan Lee likes the new movie on Spider-Man 2002 vs. Spider-Man 1992 · · Score: 1
This is the same type of moaning and groaning I heard when it was revealed that Michael Keaton was selected to play Batman. The issue of organic shooters is just plain nonsense. The same people who complain about it are the same people who praised the genius of Spider-Man 2099, who had organic shooters and spider "claws" so he could stick to walls.

Stan Lee, creater of Spider-Man, has already stated, "The film not only does the comic justice, but it's really better than the comic--and I don't say that lightly." If the movie is alright by the Old Man, it's good enough for me.

  19. Re:Cinemark Legacy in Plano on Star Wars Digital Projection Theaters · · Score: 1
Actually there are three reasons. The first is that Cinemark headquarters is located in Plano. The theater is only a few years old and has every amenity. The longest lines are at the concession stand and not at the restroom. Second is that, yes, the DLP facility is across the street. They've also placed the DLP screens in the two biggest theaters in the complex.

Cinemark Legacy is probably the best digital theater in the country. They don't charge a premium for any of the movies shown on the DLP screens and are constantly showing movies on some of the latest DLP projectors. I've seen Toy Story 2, Final Fantasy, Monsters Inc. among other films there. If you go during the day, you usually get wisked away to the upper levels of the theater to take surveys on DLP and give input to future development of the technology. (ie. surcharges, more or less likely to see a DLP movie)

The third reason? Simple. The DLP Cinema Program selected Plano as "the home of DLP Cinema technology."

When I first moved into my new home about 3 years back, I decided to go ahead and get my cable, phone and internet connection all through AT&T Cable. I was in a fairly new neighborhood and there was plenty of construction going on in the neighborhood.

During that time, I had my cable line cut three times. I didn't have any television, couldn't call the cable company to come out and fix the line and couldn't even use the internet to fill out an online form. I had to resort to my cell phone to get any work done from home.

I also found over time that my phone lacked a lot of features that I had grown accustomed to. For instance, I didn't have any voice mail indicators like I had with SWBELL and if the power went out, the battery backup would quickly discharge. To me, it quickly wasn't worth the inconvience. I still have AT&T for my cable modem, but now have Dish Network and SWBELL to fill in the gaps.
