    What's it like to be in a life and death situation with a team member you really hate?

    when you don't like them primarily because they are reckless and have almost gotten you killed, it's a nightmare. you have to call them out in a relatively safe environment with other team members around. they either take it to heart and shape up or you adjust everything to limit your exposure to them as much as is possible under the mission. also, you make sure that somebody else is watching your back and watching them.

    now, if you just don't like them for what ever reason. i've found that as long as they know how to do their job, everyone is fine. combat/hostile environments are funny things when it comes to that. you can hate a guys guts cause he's an asshole, but when you're in the middle of some third world hell hole, he becomes your best friend while you're out on that patrol. and you've got his back no matter what, cause he's YOUR asshole.

    I had standing orders that no qwest people were allowed into our denver branch without somebody calling me. and they were NEVER allowed to touch anything without somebody watching them. every time they came into the building we'd lose something, most of the time it was our internet due to their horrendous wiring.

    no. however, i would call for some bomb sniffing dogs to be on patrol at the airports sniffing for explosives. there are better ways to catch bad guys with out resorting to unconstitutional means. as for anyone taking over a plane these days... and keeping it long enough to hit your target? good luck with that.

    i understand your point. however, you can not equate the two crimes and the sentences imposed in each. one was completely premeditated and violated the rights of many people. freedom of speech, freedom of thought and so on. the other crime was not premeditated(if you believe the defense. side-note: they couldn't have argued it was a mistake if we stopped using these less then lethal force toys.) and robbed relatively speaking, fewer people of their rights. so yes, one did involve the killing of an individual. however, the malicious intent in each case is disproportionate.

    how right you are. in spite of the troll mod i'm going to get and the karma hit... the more they do stuff like this, the more guns and ammo i buy. bottom line, eventually it comes down to boots on the ground and who's willing to kill or more importantly die for what they believe in. a lot of people will kill for this kind of totalitarian crap. however, most won't want to die for it. i have faith that eventually America will see the light and embrace individual liberty and personal responsibility again and limit this 1984 nonsense to the europeans where it belongs.

    even if we had said rare-earth minerals... the EPA wouldn't let us manufacture here anyhow. you can't compete when one country will do what ever it takes to get the business and the other oppressively taxes, hinders and punishes businesses because they make money and/or things. let alone a business that may make a mess in the process.

    so now we could use a phone to assassinate somebody with out them having to actually answer the call. though, if it's an explosive in the unit itself, a better way to ensure a kill is if the phone is up against their head. but if it a GPS bomb fired from a drone/plain i'm sure close is good enough.

    on that note. never take a flower to a gun fight. when an armed person(legal authority or otherwise) tells you to stop, leave, get out of his face, and you don't have a weapon. you leave, period. you don't just stay there thinking they are not going to shoot you because you are "peaceful". they don't know that and they probably don't care.

    and some movies, like Hurtlocker, even get praise and awards even though it's pure shit and most soldiers(who've been to IZ) who see it agree. i couldn't even make it half way, it was so utterly wrong and incompetent. not sure who "advised" on that monstrosity. it's one of the few movies that pisses be off on a visceral level. then, there's movies like Restrepo. love it! but, i only stumbled upon it by mistake and i'm sure it will not make anywhere near as much money as that lie hurtlocker.

    lets see if i can use your analogy a bit more.

    you think it's flooding from the tap being left on. when it's the river you built your house next to that has a long history of flooding that's causing you grief. just because you're inconvenienced by the current water level doesn't mean that i have to stop what i'm doing and forfeit my time and money because you think it's something as simple as turning off the tap. if you build next to a river, you're basement is going to get flooded from time to time. its the natural coarse of things. it will auto correct and stop flooding at some point. stop telling me to go turn off your tap when it won't do any good.

    both man and bacteria are natural processes in the ecosystem.

    too bad we don't have pictures from 10-20k years ago to compare...man what a difference you'd see! we could sure pass some good laws then. what is the date that we said the earth stopped warming up after the last ice age? was it the 1970's when the earth was going to revert back into another ice age? and we had to DO SOMETHING to stop it. i'm thinking the warming is still going on whether man is doing anything or not. it's cyclical.

    their economy is based on making said non-important things. so with out our unrealistic economy they'd be in a different boat.

    also, the banks where only doing what Congress told them to. then, when that went horribly wrong, as most of the "good ideas" Congress has tend to do, they took the money Congress "offered". don't get pissed at the banks. get pissed at the people causing the problem. CONGRESS.

    GM released certain models where the stepper motors for the odometers where bunk. they quickly came in for repair and were fixed no questions asked... the only problem was that they were fixed with the same defective part because GM couldn't get good motors built fast enough. the thought was to fix them make the customer happy and then fix them again with good parts when they broke again.

    the customer was happy i guess, up until the second or third visit.

    lots of that kind of thing with the radios too.

    i shudder to think how bad it's gonna be under the new management.

    i'm a little more paranoid then that. this is clearly an indication that this system is too important and big to fail... so the government must step in and take over to insure the safety of the system and investors money. the government is the only one capable of taking on this responsibility. because, look at all the money lost when we left it up to business!

    or something very much along those lines. wait for it... it's coming.

    i for one want my separation of business and state back. the government has clearly shown that they have no regard for fiscal responsibility and they hose pretty much everything they stick they fingers into.
