a price point has been identified? Is anyone at Madden listening? Hello?
Oh, people haven't mentioned it but ESPN football is NOT available for the PC.
What a good deal for this company. Thanks Slashdot for all the free advertising. Shouldn't the/. editors disclose any ownership with this company (if any)?

Bipedal movement is more efficient than quadrapeds. It takes less energy to move the same mass at the same speed using two legs vs four. The problem lies in the inherent instability of bipedal movement. Thankfully, evolution has blessed us with the means to account for this instability. Roboteers don't have the benefit of millions of years and thus an easier solution would be to revert to the less efficient mode of movement involving more than two legs.
Lets just skip the moderation function in this area. Mods here already let their political view influence their moderation of "tech" subjects, let alone an overtly political thread.
I don't care if/. puts up a political forum I just won't go there as the population here is already too narrow politically to be a fair discussion.
Freecraft still required that you have the WC2 (DOS) version files. Only with those files could you play warcraft on the Freecraft engine. Why would one do that? Freecraft worked cross platform and allowed you to play online. As for original games for the engine that you don't need to buy anything for? Only one working at the moment for Stragagus.
How do we "know" that it didn't go beyond the microscopic level? Take a rainforest, insert cataclysmic event or two (or even drastic climate change), wait a few million years- now tell me what signs would be visible from the surface of the rainforest? I would gather that there would be not one sign whatsoever from the surface let alone from satelitte imagery.
I think that the interest lies in the possibilities- if this solar system had two (minimum) planets with life then #1 earth is not such a freak accident and #2 there are millions upon millions of life bearing planets out there and intelligence must exist external to earth.
Maybe a solution to the lame random mission is some connectivity to a larger db of missions. Until AI can generate an interesting random mission other than a fedex type, human thought is required. The developer should have the framework for random missions available for the game to go out and get. Maybe one based on current events or just something new. If they create a db of several hundred of these things (they don't have to be THAT deep), the playability increases dramatically.
What is the market for this thing? Its not going to compete against MS Office- no db just to start- and it can't compete with OpenOffice - price alone- so who's going to use it?
While I am not the biggest fan of OpenOffice (disclaimer I have tried OO and deinstalled it in favor of MS Office- flame away)I would use it in a second over this thing because OO is free and OO really does have some nice features.
While the author's point of the story itself might be that yes he is a famous sports star and therefore lets listen to the pearls of wisdom that drop from his mouth, I disagree that it is wholely out of place on slashdot.
What I think the story conveys is a message that RPGs appeal to a wider audience that is more mainstream than the greasy haired social reject that is so frequently portrayed as a D&D player.
The argument that the US rich don't pay taxes is based on the following facts: N/A
If one was to actually consult the facts (2000 IRS data is the latest available) you would find that the top 1% of incomes pay 30% of income tax in the US. No typos there kiddies. Just the facts. While I am on my rant here lets consider other facts. If one was to eliminate deficit spending what else would happen? Bueller? Bueller? There would be no treasury bonds. Treasury bonds are an integral part of this nations investing portfolio. I agree that a lower deficit would be nicer but elimination altogether would also have other impacts.
Treasury Bonds/notes/bills are important b/c of their credit rating and liquidity. If you eliminate them then tens of millions take on additional risk in portfolios. This doesn't have to be only the rich. many state and corporate pension plans for the run of the mill guy/gal depend on them.
I missed the part about how you actually know that "Iraq's not as dangerous as they say it is". Or do you need that in order to turn your post into a anti-whitehouse spin?
I could argue that if one is doctoring the spin you would say how safe it is and try to suppress the bad news. Either way neither you nor me knows what it is like in Iraq. But if forced to make a decision I would say it is quite dangerous.
Old school arcade games (Robotron, Defender and the like increased the difficulty simply by placing more enemies on the screen and making them faster. Eventually, there is a point where a human cannot possibly succeed. Simple way of making a game impossible to beat.
With more advanced programming and hardware capabilities you see increased AI for example to make the opponents in the game "smarter". However I have seen several examples of "smarter" AI that is not. For example, in AOE at the harder levels there may be some additional intelligence by the computer but that is supplemented by having the computer players simply start at an advantage in resources, etc. This is hardly advanced AI and is similar to the old school game strategy I mentioned above.
There are two main ways to make a game more difficult without using the robotron approach: (1) truely sophisticated AI and (2) adaptive puzzles/riddles that cannot be solved with a quick Google. I am fairly confident that no game has come up with #2. What are some games that have excellent AI?
I am not singling Sony out for this but I am getting tired of sequels. Every game has several versions sequels now (don't even get me started on FF). Movies are the same and the remakes of older movies is similar to a sequel.
Where is the original thought? Is the only way gamecoders can make money is to reuse a theme and add some bells and whistles, repackage and call it Dungeon Seige 2 or Unreal 5 or Warcraft 3. I understand that these franchises are popular and some of them are really quite good but I beg these people to think a little more.
B&W was a stellar idea that fell flat. Great idea does not equal great gameplay or lasting interest. Hopefully they get it all right this time.

Troubling. A really poor job by the editors to vet this.
Is this truely a story or is it advertising?

$25 for unlimited uses vs .25 for one use. If you own it already (cartridge, etc.) then dust it off. You aren't forced to buy the new version. Sheeeez.
Yeah, I can't wait to get my hand on the source code and base my new stuff on the space invaders engine.
Its not called GREED. Its called I built something and I will profit off of it. That is called CAPITALISM.

Why would it matter if you had AIDS or not?
What do you mean by "the wars the USians brought"?
This level was never finished, doesn't work, and looks like crap. Please tell me where the interest lies?
Gotcha. We agree.
