I was of the impression that Devuan is really, really new on the field. How trustworthy is the distribution and what are its chances of living for another few years?
Also, to be quite honest, Ubuntu provides a lot of howtos online. How similar is Devuan to Debian or Ubuntu, init aside? Do howtos mostly apply to it as well?
And no, I'm not gonna do another LFS. The last time, many moons ago, I got it running but with so many error messages I couldn't truly deal with, I think I've got enouth PTSD to tell my grandkids I would have preferred a good war:D.
I've been considering switching from Ubuntu to something without Systemd. But what would that be? Slackware is a bit hardcore and frankly, I'm really scared I won't get my server functional ever again if I start from scratch...
I'm pretty blind on my right eye. If this thing doesn't have heads up display, finding out my current speed would probably be less than ideal for safety.
I mean how much would it suck to be in a deadly situation during combat that the strength of a man would get you out of and all you have is a woman who doesn't quite cut it?
Granted, if you lack the numbers, having women bolster them makes sense. But only then.
For all the other jobs in the armed forces though, this does not apply. So banning women and transgenders from those jobs as well is... questionable.
Not that I like mentioning this but perhaps it's a good think if the kids with these diseases don't get a chance to reproduce, at least from a species-wide point of view.
Then again, we'd certainly win more if the stupidity were curbed...
You didn't ask me specifically and I'm a bit late but basically it comes down to having a dedicated GPU passed through to that vm exclusively. That works through IOMMU.
If nothing breaks in this "hack" then you shouldn't even notice much performance loss.
Linus Tech Tipps ran 8+ gamers on one really beefy unraid (IIRC) machine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?... and the experience seemed to be rather adequate.
Haven't seen any in the last five to ten years though.
Very few exciting things happen in tech at the moment. The only somewhat groundbreaking change is the move to all electric, which has less to do with technology than with social norms and expectations.
My next gaming monitor might be 4k and have freesync so that might be a little exciting. It's also probably another year off before I get one.
My next tv will probably be a 4k HDR OLED. Which might actually be exciting, if not for the fact that the tv is mostly used for My Little Pony, Nick's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Last Airbender.
When I'm typing on my keyboard and some application thinks it's important enough not just to pop up in front of all the other windows but also move the cursor to its windows.
Especially funny when you're entering an internal password with a customer looking over your shoulder.
I also very much hate it when I enter a domain and the browser goes "Oh, I know tha tone! Let me autocomplete that for you, even though you hit enter after the ".com""
I want the computer to sopt trying to think for me until it's actually smarter than me. But at that point, I want to be able to copy a url, a username and a password and just hit ctrl+v three times and the system pastes the correct value in each field.
Frankly, I find it just impossible to read every document I have to sign for every-day life. Not because of time but because my brain just wants to melt, flow out my ears and run away.
I think companies should be required to make customers aware of any kinds of things that are part of a contract which are not immediately obvious to a layman.
So the fact that coffee is hot when freshly bought would not apply but if the only reason your internet is so cheap is the fact that you sell my data, then you better put that on the front page or get sued.
Err... no. Threadripper is actually the workstation version of the server CPU called Epyc (I know... marketing needs to be slapped), not the other way around.
Ubuntu server with KVM virtualization (including a Win10 gaming VM) actually.
I do admit I was hoping to be a bit further away from 800 bucks on the 12 core, though. Oh well, gotta wait and see the prices in Switzerland first anyway.
I just got a Lenovo P2 and I freaking love that thing! I charge it about every two to four days while happily watching the Plex media (synced to to 128GB SD card I added in lieu of a second SIM) during my commute.
It's not perfect. Still doesn't have a hardware keyboard but damned if it isn't the first smartphone since the Desire Z I actually don't hate using.
And it didn't even cost half of the usual flagship phones. (my employer spent a bit over half of what a flagship phone would have cost even after contract extension rebates... and that's without contract extension)
My wife's now P2 is in the mail to replace her dying Lumia 930.
I tried watching the show a year or so ago... When they hacked into the men's toilet via the sewer pipe, I turned it off and deleted the whole thing:D.
...and I don't just mean the US, is to rain the judicial equivalent of an Undertaker choke-slam upon government people who would abuse the law in such a fashion.
Frankly, I think there should be a point in every constitution that someone abusing that which he is tasked to protect faces twice the penalty of someone who wasn't.
How about this: Perhaps it's a matter of finally having found like-minded people who they feel understand their issues much better than they feel the people in their immediate surroundings do.
I remember how liberating it was when I found IRC back then. Finally I had found people sharing my interests instead of people at best being completely bored by them.
Sure, to my parents it looked like I was wasting my time in front of a screen but personality-wise I felt better than I had in years.
Perhaps this is just the typical "Is it true? Am I out of touch? No! It's the kids who are wrong!"
Hmmm Gentoo. Why not? That one's at least seen a few years so it's probably somewhat mature at least and won't kick the bucket in a year or so :D.

I understand that part completely as well.

So.... meh?
Now what? I'm not quite sure I see the point of that post. If I want to hear someone rant, I'll talk to myself for half an hour.
I am in the process of banning windows to a mere gaming vm. I have enough stuff to rant about. So is there any useful information in the above?
I am astounded that it took that long for someone to comment on the typo :D.

Well, more accurately, humans are still animals with all that entails.
That should have been "my wife's new P2"
I am in no way average as a consumer.

Why is that bizarre? They even went as far and forbade 16 year olds to engage in prostitution a few years back ;).
But seriously, what has prostitution got to do with it?
Uhhh, abusing children is illegal in Switzerland, obviously. I'm not sure your analogy fits there.
In Switzerland, they consider loli manga to be childporn.
And I must ask, what exactly do they expect happens when they ban every single outlet a pwdophile might have that doesn't involve actual children?
Never mind that most child abusers aren't even pedos but that's different kettle of fish.

Seriously? Do you think that wouldn't happen with conventional elevators if they had no emergency braking system?
