I'm not convinced that we could. (I am an American citicen BTW)

I understand that the ideal scenario would be the entire American Public write our senators and congressmen and express our dissatisfaction - and that they would in turn vote a president in who would get rid of the cia/vote amongst themselves to get rid of them for fear of losing their positions.

I just don't see this happening.
In order for that change to occur you would need alternatives. People to take these officials place should they not get rid of the CIA. I have no doubt that some of them would take this stance, because it is beneficial to them, and they would potentially get a powerful position. This does not mean that they will end up with enough power to accomplish that goal.

I also don't see the american public doing anything about it because 1) we do feel powerless 2) not everyone is as educated or even aware as we all should be. I myself having a pretty basic idea of how our government is running.

and (most importantly) 3) some of the American Public will have no problem with this behavior whatsoever.

So, while the potential to correct this mess exists, I cannot see it happening. I think that's all the CIA needs to feel safe in their actions ..

A quote from Joss on Whedonesque.com:

All right, now I have to jump in and set the record straight. EW is a fine rag, but they do take things out of context. Obviously when I said I had 'closure', what I meant was "I hate Serenity, I hated Firefly, I think my fans are stupid and Nathan Fillion smells like turnips." But EW's always got to put some weird negative spin on it. But so we're clear once and for all: If you read a quote saying "I'd love to do more in this 'verse with these actors in any medium" all I'm saying is that Nathan has a turnipy odor. It's not his fault, he doesn't eat a lot of them but everyone else in the cast noticed it and tht's not really something I'm prepared to deal with any more. And Jewel said outright she wouldn't do scenes with him except stuff like the SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER funeral scene which was outside in a high SPOILER wind. So if I do manage to find another incarnation for my beloved creation, it will have been totally against my will.

I hope that clears everything up. Oh, and when I say I want to do a Spike movie, it means I have a bunion on my toe.

-joss (by which I mean Tim)

            (no, actually me.)

SO - key details. 1) main actor smells like turnips. I can't smell but in context this seems negative, as no one will work with him.
    2) Joss Whedon doesn't like serenity or firefly
    3) He's not really looking to make any more of the universe.

    *shrug* good enough for me.

Forgive me, but I'm going to pull out a flame thrower here...

Games aren't cheap to make, and good games consume countless hours playing them. (Mostly the RPG sector)

Now, lets take Final Fantasy X. I never beat the game, but I have clocked at least 50 hours into that game. That's what's recorded. That doesn't include me fighting the boss at 40 hours, losing horribly, spending another 10 hours trying to gather equipment, and still dying. Each time committing at least 20 minutes getting to the boss, and another 10-30 minutes fighting him ... several times.

That's a lot of time for a game I bought for 20$. I would have gladly paid 50$ for this game! (I did not, however, have a ps2 or a job to fund them) There are games like this, quite a few of them. Now, when you consider other forms of entertainment and the cost behind them, this is a FANTASTIC deal. I'm sorry but I think you people are just being cheap because you can.

But anyways, you do bring up an interesting point. usual power saving features do things like lower the clock rate when not in use, but lowering the maximum clockrate you would lower the speed of the computer, thus the max power it puts out. Knowing that you will be running the processor at max speed longer, you may or may not gain power/heat savings overall for long complex tasks, but I imagine for simple tasks you would.

now - I don't believe you need to downclock just because you lowered the voltage, but you may introduce system instability ...

That's usually what happens when you overclock without increasing the voltage as well.

To stay on topic, I am going to agree. The grammar and spelling mistakes are occasionally rediculous, obvious errors. I think there is an enormous margin for improvement. To be honest, I wouldn't notice. =) I'm just not someone who notices when things are done right unless I get the "whole package" and say "Wow! This is astounding!" - I will however have no idea why I like it so much.

Now, if you check my sig, you'll see that I'm prone to make typo's, spelling errors, and grammatical mistakes. I give my posts a once over and be done with it, and I don't mind people pointing out obvious mistakes in anything I type.

However, grammar nazi's are called as such for a reason. Most of the posts are rude, condescending, and about simple mistakes that do not matter to anyone but the most anal retentive. This is not to say all of them are, as some are funny and light hearted, but I can definately understand why people would become sore about the topic =)

I like the idea of feedback forms, because they allow for classification.

Allow the viewer to specify weither there is a spelling or grammar mistake, and to select a level of severity (with posted guidelines about what qualifies for what)

Some other topics include factual verification, broken links, and soforth. This will make it easier to include severe spelling/grammatical errors as top priority, without ruining the culture CmdrTaco whishes to preserve. (Of which I enjoy very much. The discussions tell me more than the article)

Let's not forget the breakdown of society caused by people inflicting traumatic experiences for others because they have never experienced anything remotely traumatic, and know that that person will escape relatively unharmed due to the same treatment.
