gah, seriously, in the a new hope book, han DOES shoot in self defense. In the original print of the film the scene is imperceptible, the special edition just cleared it up.
The song was on the soundtrack to his movie. I think if I write a song, make a movie, and make that song the theme song of the movie then I have the copyrights to it.
How do you record something before you write it? Worst case is it's written at the same time as it's recorded. And as soon as you do record it, it's copyrighted.
Seriously, this isn't really a valid comparison. The basic plot of a harry potter is
1) I'm a wizard! look at all the cool crap i can do 2) oh no, this guy is bad, let's do something 3) quidditch! 4) we stop the bad guy 5) rejoice
In short, a kids book lacking in depth is easy to convert. Not to mention the second movie drags like hell, the book certaintly didn't. Maybe they should have changed the pace of things.
If he was a business I would probably be more sympathetic towards ms, but I don't believe that it is. I don't think someone's personal non-commercial site should have to worry about getting in the way of multinational multibillion dollar corps.
1) It's free 2) requires no additional effort 3) requires no additional equipment 4) less security risk 5) free
I can probably think of more, but that's enough for me. I even run my own web server, but don't trust it enough from the point of security or uptime for it to handle my email.
Go to google.com, then go to yahoo.com (if you're using a good browser, view them in tabs side by side). You'll notice Google has their search bar prominently in the middle of the page, surrounded by 13 links, 4 of them are for searching, 1 for the news service, 3 setup options. Also, out of the way at the bottom are links to info about the company.
Now look at yahoo, the search bar is at the top (good) but there are probably over 100 links to all of the various parts of yahoo arranged in a, *gasp*, portal like fashion.
It seems obvious that for google, searching remains job 1, while for yahoo, searching competes with the dozen other features they offer.
First, the fact that he said 'M$' doesn't 'hurt his argument'. It may ruin the form of his argument, but what he's arguing and his points remain the same.
Next, I do not believe he actually started a company here. If you would actually read the quotation you posted, you might notice it says "to have a site that sounded like a famous company". Looking at the google cache, he states:
Welcome to MikeRoweSoft Design. I finally had time to design myself a portfolio to show off all of my work so I hope you enjoy.
So it's really just his portfolio, aka, websites he's made. The site is slashdotted, so I can't be sure, but it doesn't seem like any of his designs are commercial.
The stock market is not about making a profit, that isn't good enough. There needs to be ever raising profit for the stock to grow. Which is where the problems everyone is worried about are coming from.
I think the situation you have pointed out is grossly extreme and quite unlikely.
I don't really know how property taxes are based, I would have assumbed it's based mostly on land size, population density and the relative desire to live in a particular area. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just assuming.
I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that quieter homes would jack up the desire to live in a particular area to such a degree that people would be forced out of their homes.
No.. free as in fair use. If someone has the particular driver on their system, then that person should be able to use it on the same computer under a different operating system no?
Writing ext/reiser drivers for windows would fulfil a different niche, (linux user switching to windows perhaps?). This is intended for windows users, who already have ntfs filesystems, switching to linux.
Turn off science articles then. This story is on Slashdot because that's what Slashdot does. It posts stories that people may be interested in. If you don't care, great, just don't read it.
Well something moving at many times the speed of light would have infinite kinetic energy. Striking a finite amount of objects with a finite amount of energy would do nothing if you're only trying to apply newtonian mechanics to what's going on.
Agreed. I'm hoping these are fakes.

Does Konqueror have tabs yet? If so, I'll give it another shot. Sounds like it has come a really long way in a short amount of time.

I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome.
Um,
1) It's free
2) requires no additional effort
3) requires no additional equipment
4) less security risk
5) free

You mean we can't even look up or down? Who's going to buy that?
The more likely situation: SCO wins, offending code is removed from kernel, life goes on as normal.
Spot on man. Spacesuit was pretty pop corn. And The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is a masterpiece.
Better than jury duty? I don't think so.

What? What is that supposed to mean? Does everyone paying taxes imply poor people going homeless?
Chemistry is physics.
Do you have a link to that quote about mcguinty, I recall reading it somewhere.

I think doing things like symbolic integration or linear regression quickly would be downright impossible on PDA's.
If all you need to calculate are simple arithmetic expressions then I'm sure a pda will be sufficient. This is not for that.
how shocking?
how poorly designed.
how unnatural.
and my mouse wheel doesn't work.
all of the paragraphs are clearly aligned in columns, so why not just line it up.
Are they whining about the useability of windows? No. They whine about their business practices. Two different ball games pal.
