I was one of those delightfully luck people who got slapped with the $200 extortion fine where they threatened to release my domain if i didn't pay them off because they received a spam report that apparently showed me to be a spammer (a single anonymous email reporting it).
I had to deal with their tech support for 2 days spending hours on hold talking to countless people before i could convince them to allow me to transfer the domain (they rejected all transfer requests).
Let the market regulate things. If we want environment-conscious products, make sure the pollution is more expensive.
I never understood this mentality..
Why do we have police? Because citizens, as good as we are, cannot be trusted to police ourselves without a ton of laws and police to make sure we do what we're supposed to.
Why should the market be any better? It's run by those same people who could not be trusted to maintain law biding composure.
The market is fueled by it's self which is why companies are able to sell people products they don't really want or need (diamonds?), while consumers have the choice in the end, they also manipulate the hell out of us and try to convince us that their products are really safe/healthy/environmental.. when they're not.
A perfect example would be "0 Trans Fats" vs "No Trans Fats" (yes, there's a difference). No transfats means just that; 0 means it could be "0.9g Transfats" but because of the current standards, they can truncate the number to become "0".
Who then is going to stop a company from lying about how environmentally friendly their products are if there is no actual regulation?
I have to wonder why Blizzard consistently releases their titles for Mac.. I buy all their games as a result, but what's their motivation? (surely the sales are far far lower)..
but that's besides the point, since right now almost all companies are in a mad dash to get their company name as a.com.. and only 1 company can have that.com (e.g remy.com is only owned by one of the two companies).
So having anyone be able to get a tld of their own will not change that, but it will make domain names look a whole lot nicer..
Why not instead charge the person with crimes comited?
Surely shooting a gun at someone with intent to kill is a crime..?
How about breaking and entering with the intent to steal?
Why bother wasting time with charging someone with something they didn't do but instead on what they did and add on their intention (thereby increasing the sentence).

Yeah, GoDaddy's a real peach.
I see you haven't dealt with Godaddy's tech support much..
Catching up? Maybe..
Catching on? No.
They *still* haven't bought the domain zune.com, talk about stupid.
there's absolutely no need for each employee to have or need a public ip address. in fact, each should be on a VPN for security reasons.

Really?
So can you fill me in as to why any of them would need 16,387,064 public ip addresses?
apple and google are tighter than any other company that owns it's own block.
Apple is a bad example, they could actually use those IPs if they shared them with google or something..
companies that totally don't need them would be companies like:
Ford
Boeing
GE
what do you think happens when it gets the page rank? you think google doesn't keep track of that page after you requested it's rank?
Isn't the very nature of a 'toolbar' to in fact *be* spyware?
They all track what you view and send that info back to home base.

Fanboy? Geez, get over yourself.
This is slashdot.. it's presumed that everyone here (especially the editors) use firefox or some other OS browser..
Dont shash eeditors use Forefox? its gut a bilt in spellchcker..
Why is it dumb?
You're basically telling google every website you visit.. why should *that* be the smart move?
A whole lot of companies do make up words..
.com.. and only 1 company can have that .com (e.g remy.com is only owned by one of the two companies).

mysql_real_escape_string() has been a function going back to php4..
or companies can stop naming themselves after generic words..
Mmm.. how about letting anyone have any tdl? honestly, why are we all rushing for .com ? Like, what the hell is "com" for a domain name anyway?
I'd much rather type "apple" or "google" than "apple.com" and "google.com", personally I find it'd make a lot more sense.
musta been the slashdot effect..
Let's recognize speech.
or..
Let's wreck a nice beach.
I guess we should say the same about 9/11 and the WTC?
Who cares?
Nice troll. But wrong on all counts.
Shareholders are made fully aware of the risks of buying and selling stocks.
If a website prints false news they can be held for libel by Apple, but not by the shareholders individually.. it's all part of the risk.

Why is patenting Algorithms/Mathematics any different than patenting Methods/Actions?
