They're too busy sucking dick for the Religious Right and taking it from behind from the developers that are destroying a once beautiful place.

Gates and Co. should have told this idiot to take his Bible and shove it up is arse. If religious zealots don't like gay people, then don't engage in homosexual activities and leave everyone else alone.

Second, and actually this IS clear, is that Apple SUCKS when it comes to upgrade terms! I bought a G5 in late March. Apple's window for a free upgrade? Any purchase after 4/12/05. 15 days before release. That's bullshit. So, what that means is that even though I'm a Mac tech, I'm not wasting $100 on another OS upgrade that I don't see any benefit to and something I don't think I should have to pay for.

  8. Patent process works....sometimes on IBM Calls for Patent Reform · · Score: 2, Interesting

I have to come to the defense of the Patent Office on one public case last week. The morons at Smuckers tried to patent the "process" of sealing the edges of its Crustables "crustless" PB&J sandwich. The patent office told them to go take a hike, as the process has existed for years (ravioli, pie crusts, etc). They appealed to a US district court and the case was tossed. Score one for common sense.

However, it's pretty clear that things have gotten out of hand. Too many people were/are making too much money on bogus patents and now that you have more lawyers involved, we're seeing what happens. As with most thing, they (lawyers, sharks, ambulanc chasers) destroy it.

Every new client I get (I'm a home computer tech) is infected with massive amounts of spyware. They have NO idea. My last two clients had more than 10,000 files and programs that were deemed spyware (not including cookies). It took forever to clean these machines, esp with those damn trojans not wanting to leave. I've got years of experience so I know what to do. But 99.999% of Windoze users doesn't have the damndest clue. My clients can't even set up their own DSL connections. how are they going to prevent their computers from being turned into zombies? Hell, they don't even know what that means.

As a TiVo customer, I just hope that my $300 lifetime service contract MEANS something if the company were to be taken over. I'm an Apple junkie as well, so this is the best of both worlds for me. I think.
I did say a couple of weeks ago on the last TiVo thread that the only thing that would save this company would be a Jobs-like CEO. Maybe that wish will come true.

I kinda feel like the first days of Java when it was thrown out ther to "developers" who created useless applets. I have no desire to look at pictures on my TV. I can do that by plugging in my digital camera. I have no desire to share stuff with my Mac, unless I can download the videos in a normal codec (MPG) and save stuff on my computer.
What else is there to do on this thing that developers are really going to tap into to get my mom, dad, sister and in-laws to buy a TiVo?
I've said this before, but I am dead serious: they need more porn. It's always driven technology and made money. The cable companies are cashing in. The hotel chains are cashing in. The industry is cashing in. Now, that won't mak my family buy it, per se, but people WILL buy it if they see more hooters and camel toe.
This move for a "developers kit" it desperate becaue they can't think of anything else. They need a CEO like Jobs, because a visionary who can execute is the only way this company will be saved.

It's a dark, dirty secret that most hotel chains make millions in profits from PPV porn, which really sucks because it's NOT explicit. If there was some way to get a dedicated porn channel through TiVo, man would the bucks roll in for them. Either that, or somehow hook up with SpiceTV for a discounted service.

We can also watch what we want to watch, when we want to watch it. Have some free time when I get home? Three episodes of Overhaulin' is waiting for me. We can watch "24" commercial-free if we want.

It is pretty obvious the CEO is an ego-maniac in the form of the original Steve Jobs. He's making the same mistakes, basically. Thinking they can go it alone is akin to signing a suicide note.
