One can only hope you're correct. It seems the events leading up to the current "shortage" mimics the one in the 70's. People bought bigger and bigger gas guzzlers and a Middle East crisi brought that trend to a halt.
Fast forward to 2004, here we go again. There are plenty of soccer mom idiots who should never have been let behind the wheel of an SUV in the first place around here. I'm laughing at them now, because as prices go up, they might not be able to have that weekly nail appointment before they pick up Emily and Kaitlyn from school after a "busy" day.
My fill-ups on my VW GTI are nearing $30, which isn't all that big a deal since I fill up only once every week and a half.
Will it lead to more conservation? Maybe. But things like that never last in this country. So, once this passes people will go back to their old habits. Hell, after 9/11, we all thought we lived in a country transformed by love and happy feelings. Today, we're back to the same greedy, obnoxious, angry dolts we were 5 years ago.

All I need is one bowl of Kaschi cereal in the morning and, within 3 hours, I'm guaranteed to have gas for hours afterwards. Works like a charm!
When I went to India 6 years ago, we went to a place called Mount Abu in the northwestern part of the country in the Gujarat state. When you get up there, you CAN'T see the valley surrounding it. It's sickening. It looks like you are on an island surrounded by an ocean. Then again, the entire SE Asian continent is under a consistent smog. One of my flights was also delayed a half hour because of pollution. Yeah, so it wasn't so bright there. And it took my lungs more than a month to recover after I got back (and kissed the ground).
Ah, SoundJam. Man, I wish that was still being developed. I like 1lights, and man the plug-ins for SJ MP were awesome. For iTunes, you get um, one, psychadelic, boring plug-in. Unless I'm out of the loop and there are as much as for SJ.
It certainly has its issues, which have been discussed eloquently here. Another issue that pisses me off is that it has really killed some markets for certain goods, like guitars, music memorabilia, etc. It's hard to make money on an investment on something that is now fetching pennies on the dollar on Ebay. I know it's a supply/demand issue at heart, but still. I've had a couple of people flake on me, not send payment and disappear. I've never had anything major happen to me. Ebay caught someone hacking into my account and attempting to sell a video camera through my account. It was a nice catch on their part.
However, getting my account back up and running was a fucking nightmare. Took me 2 weeks to be able to sell stuff again. Their customer feedback/support is about as archaic and customer UNfriendly as you can get. It's nearly impossible to find the right department to contact, and when they DO contact you back, they take 48 to respond.
I wonder if they use the same outsourced help as AOL....
I had a client of mine at a medical office two weeks ago who was having problems with an onslaught of uncontrollable pop-ups. I downloaded two popular spyware removal programs and I just could not believe the amount of SHIT that has been secretly installed on these PCs. Man, I'm so happy I own Macs. It took me a couple of hours just to clear out all of the spyware programs and files fromboth computers. One of them had nearly 200 files/programs that had been installed, not by the user.
To all you fuckers who create this malware, I hope you all die horrible, slow deaths. Really. You are scum.
Dude, you need to find a girlfriend or something. Seriously. Then again, maybe this is Windows thing. Last time I re-installed my OS on my Mac was about a year ago....
Please. I spent the better part of 2 years commuting to NYC from CT. THE most annoyign part of my commute was when some ignoratn, inconsiderate asshole would decide he or she was welcome to broadcast their conversation for all to hear, regardless of the subject. In fact, one morning, I nearly got into a fist fight with some arrogant fucker from Greenwich who repeatedly ignored requests from not only me, but other passengers to keep quiet. It escalatedf to the point where he got off the phone pretty quickly. The train (or bus or whatever) is a place commuters like to relax, sleep or read a paper in peace. It only takes one jackass to throw courtesy out the window to irritate others around them.
Hell, I made sure my phone was on vibrate every time I was on the train and only answered the phone if it was really important. Otherwise, my caller could wait for me to call them back. Again, most commuters don't understand this concept that no one wants to hear a high-pitched ring at 7:00 in the morning when they are asleep.
Better air? Bro, you're better off sucking on a tailpipe in New York City. The pollution in India is like nothing you've EVER seen over here. Ever heard of the Asian Brown Smog or whatever that permanent brown cloud over SE Asia is?
I've been there. It took my lungs a MONTH to recover.
Trust me on this. You can't drink the water. The pollution is overwhelming and you'd never be able to afford to move back to the US, since you'll be making a fraction of the amount of money. Also, imagine working in Mumbai or Hydreabad (if it's still standing) and dealing with approximately 10x the amount of people and unregulated traffic than NYC or LA. On top of that, you have a third world country emergency system (good luck if you get sick or injured).
I know Indians will find my post possibly offensive, but I've been there. It's like being on another planet and if you want major culture shock, go ahead. The poverty and pollution will make you jump on a plane back to the US in a minute.
Besides, all the programmers and engineers will be smarter than you anyway, so why bother.;-)
I've been forwarding a LOT of spam coming from Comcast.net, Adelphia, net and a couple of other cable operators. It seems to take these crackers DAYS to do something about it. At least they're nice enough to tell me the problem with specific user has ben dealt with.
Makes you wonder if it's really possible to get even the dumbest of PC users to patch their machines. I mean, how difficult is it to do? It's like 3 mouse clicks. Yet, even the lowest common denominator sits there and says, "Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh..."
I've gotten a TON of spam through Chinese servers, but it's also a vast array of unprotected PCs there, too. For instance, take this DNS lookup from a spam I just got a few minutes ago:

Now, granted, there may be some smart-ass high school student somewhere in China sending these out, but I doubt it. I've received the exact same spam from twtelecom.net and adelphia.net here in the states.
It's time for war.
I was just about to post the same thing. The majority of spam I've been logging in the past two weeks have come from: shawcable, comcast, and also included attbi, but those were always forger from one of the cable operators. Is there any way to send a missle through email?
Doesn't anyone get this weirdness? One of Cingular's latest commercials with with some chick who said she was happy she was able to keep her number, and she's dancing to the Jenny song. I thought that was odd, since it's a Verizon number.
I haev no knowledge of how profitable making sahreware is, but personally I'd go this route first. It establishes some sort of track record, gets your name out there, and maybe actually makes some $$.
True dat. I've been using and updating my host file for my Mac (wish I could find a simple way to do it in OSX, too) for 2 years now. I have at least 80 servers blocked. The only annoying thing using Netscape 7 is that I can't turn off server messages like I could in IE 5.
On one of my sites, I use a Match.com pop-under. In the two weeks I've used it, my hit rate has skyrocketed. I used to get maybe 2 click-throughs per day, now it's nearly ten. No, not a lot, but for a small fry like myself, it's noticeable. Now, if those geeks would just start signing UP when they click through....;-)
I think the state of Mac browsers right now is pretty sad. I am still on OS 9 (old computers) and have finally made the switch to Nutscrape 7 from IE 5.1. IE is just WAY too unstable. NS 7 is much better, but dammit, it still has some stupid bugs. Hell, it doesn't even work right with PayPal's web site! And those pull down history menus get stuck BEHIND the browser. Annoying. Anyway, hope this new thing becomes a winner.
I get god-knows-how-many pieces of spam shit per day. However, it's obvious that people ARE buying penis pills and the like. So, how do I get in on this gig and cash in?
PS: I hope all these spammers and their families get anal cancer and die horrible deaths in a car fire or picked apart by vultures.
There was a case in Redding, CT recently where a woman strung a scammer along for months, and got one of the middle men to come down to CT from Canada. She was in cahoots with the local PD and FBI. They nabbed him when he showed up. It's a great idea - IF you have the time to do it. Unless there's a wad of cash involved in it for me, I won't do it.
Yeah, I wasn't the only one that was REALLY pissed when I brought home the first edition of the first movie and there's a fucking promo for the extended edition in it. I started scrveaming at my TV "What the fuck did I just drop $25 on this DVD for then????" Hence, I've waited for THIS edition and I didn't waste my $ on the first one of TT. I'm watching all four hours on Saturday. I got it for Xmas and never watched it. Ha!
I don't think people will ever realize that. 99% of the people I know know so little about computers that suggesting they install a different email client is like suggesting they amputate a limb. Whatever ships with Windoze is what the majority of the lemmings out there are going to use.
