I think that the question "what is art?" has been given a conclusive answer, it's just that
1) People don't really get any decent (if any at all) art history education in grade/high school. With only cursory ed at University unless you pursue it on your own.
2) The art world can at many times actively strive to keep the 'pleebs' out. Galleries do this in order to raise the perceived value of any give piece of art in order to make more money. Ah, art and capitalism.
Your close, but not quite there. These days, art is in the intentions of the creator. That was the great revelation of Duchamp's found objects (bike wheel, urinal , etc). True, you will stand up better in public/critical scrutiny if you have the skills and (more importantly) a well thought out idea behind your art. But pretty much, if you can defend it as such, it's art.
11 x 14 at 320dpi is the norm for magazine work (that's what you give them, not necessarily what they print it at). As far as billboards go (this is different than if your doing an exhibition print large), the prints use different offset methods that use pretty low-res images (120 dpi or even 72 dpi in many cases). Building wraps are the same way. The printer asks you questions like "how far away will people be when viewing this image?". Many of these fall apart if you get within five feet of them but look really sharp from 50 feet.
...and the actors 'learn' their characters, I'm sure it will do well.
The actors should have 'learned' their characters before the show went on the air. I really can't stand Atlantis, I find the acting to sup-par at best. It needs to up the cheese factor if the actors continue acting like they're in the lame spinoff that they are.
Oh, and that PC is expandable, has more than two drive bays and one optical bay,
All of the powermac G4's (and probably the blue & white G3's) have four internal drive bays and two external (how many of those are optical depends on what you have, or if your willing to mod the machine).
I agree whole heartedly, I always think it's such a huge cop out when people talk about moving because there too weak to try and change things. Almost pisses me off as much as it does when I hear the delightful saying "Love it or leave it". Hell no I'm not going to leave it, I love it too much, but that doesn't mean that we all have to sit hear and take it.
you can, apple just doesn't advertise it. They hide these options on the side bar under "special deals". Also many times if you go into an apple store and ask them about discontinued items, if they have them in stock they will sell them at a lower price (I got a 10 gig iPod for less than the mini price that way right after the minis came out).
Being a/. member, of course, this will be yet another costless Valentine's Day for me.
Ahh yes, I too am a a cheap bastard who's not getting my girlfriend anything.
You've got it wrong, the output is not the art here. The art is Hector, watch, these guy's will get quiet a bit of exposure, and then grants funding for more projects. The field for technology in the arts is wide open right now, lots of crap out there, this will be considered innovative by gallery owners in NYC.
If it plays Ogg Vorbis, they can consider me a potential customer. If not, well, I suppose they haven't lost me, since I'd never spend $400 for what amounts to a walkman-type device anyway. But I hope it does, because this sounds like almost exactly what I want in a portable music player (assuming it plays Vorbis, as I mentioned).
I wish I could reach through the computer and slap you. You'll never see apple supporting oog in the ipod, I doubt you'll ever see a mainstream (meaning you can buy it at Best Buy) player that supports oog. AAC is the format of the future, deal with it. However I do agree with the $400 bit, I'm not sure I would even spend $150, but $99.99 and you've got me.
Interesting, I could honestly see some car company not wanting to let you install an after market stereo. Especially now that several of them are trying to push things like XM radio, dvd players and like at the dealership.
I just rebuilt my girlfriends computer, I was going for least amount of money spent possible (came in at under $100). I still need to replace the HD, so for now the OS is running on a 2gb Western Digital that has been in constant use for the last six years. The computer is/has been only turned off when moving. That's the oldest thing in use, I also have a working 8086 ibm portable that has no hd, but two 5.25" floppy drives. Just the thing to run DM Assistant on.
I always think that's its great how people will take parts of a sentence (especially that sentence) and purport it to be the whole truth when it is in fact not. (Another good example is Ann Coulter (sic?) claiming 'one of the top 100 intellectuals in america' which came from a book whose subtitle was something like 'a study in decline')
There are a couple of comas in there and the first half of the sentence is just as important as the last, "A well regulated militia,".
Section 8 of the Constitution covers militias, and it says: To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress
So it would seem that the right to bear arms is directly linked to the operation of a Militia, and Congress and the States have the final say as to the training and arming of said Militia, there for it is perfectly legal for the Congress or the State to determine what the Militia can or can not be armed with (and by extension every body else).
To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions
So to make the long story short, if you want a rocket launcher, convince your Congressman that you need said ordinance to effectively repel an invasion or to up hold the Constitution and we call all have Rocket launchers.
This has been modded funny, but in many way's it's true. Cable-vision is all ways running ads for their ISP that say things like "if you know where to get it, you can all your favorite music on line" and "you can download MP3's". True, they never say "go use kaaza and get it all for free" but the implication is there.
I love InDesign. It's not antiquated like Quark, it fits into my work flow (it's very much like Illustrator in how the tools work/ are layed out), and most importantly, I can print to any old printer without a RIP and still get a full res output on graphics. To be fair, I do very few multipage layouts (mostly ads, postcards and such) so I don't know how well it fares if you wanted to do a whole book or something.
I haven't run into any problems getting the files to be accepted by any press houses. A lot of them take InDesign documents these days even if they don't advertise the fact. The few that don't take the native file wil usualy accept a PDF or EPS.
Next time you upgrade get one of Adobes all inclusive packages (one of those ones that includes PS, Illustrator, Acrobat, ect...) you would practicaly be getting it for free, so if you don't like it it's no big loss.

this is slashdot incase you haven't noticed. Sub-par command of the English language is par here.

It looked to me like a lot of work for a pretty shity looking costume.

The Seagate is the first with a Native SATA interface. I have no idea what that means, but I assume that to be important. Maybe faster IO?

The GL series is better than prosumer, and as a previous poster said, why recommend a $2K camera when he wants less than $1K.

I stand corrected.

The email that Go Daddy sent its customers can be found here and their complaint against Verisign can be found here.
