Oh, you haven't seen the new XPI installer plugin adware thinga-ma-joos.

I happened across a few sites this week which used mozilla's own installer to load up some juicy spyware/adware (just like how momma used to make).

I had accidently clicked yes.... I normally click no... actually I ALWAYS click no. In any event, I watched in horror as I realized what I had done. Then I spent 30 or so minutes with spybot, adware, and manual deletion.

I suppose I'll just have to write my own browser to be safe.

Of course, then I'll probably happen across a zero day exploit for Cylix's Browser.

    Just can't win...

Though honestly, they really need to refine the laws or perhaps someone should roll their own Antivirus + Malware suite. If you can't see the signs... this is the next big thing. Symantec could easily push a few kabillion units with something like this.

It would be fairly trivial for someone to thieve a great deal of expensive equipment from any of the locations I know about.

The only problem would be getting support on any of the stolen goods.

None the less, ISP's of today are looking for ways to cut costs and stolen property is at the right price.

You managed to luck out then.

A friend of mine actually had a non-working speedometer, but the judge required a mechanic to issue a small piece of paper detailing the speedometer was in fact defunct. In this case, a speeding ticket is a very minor infraction of the law and a judge taking someones word is going to happen at some point. Exactly what was the cited evidence that you had been speeding?

You could have also asked for the last test results of the officers equipment. Rarely are these things ran through the tests to ensure proper calibration and the ticket can be thrown out with that manner as well. Sure, it probably is working, but there are many ways to work within the system. Pointing out the system is flawed, which is a fairly common notion, doesn't make his claim any less worth looking into.

Of course it contains spin, but its hard to assumme it is all fluff when they continually site points over and over. At some point, if they expect to win, they will have to back their claims. In a situation like this there will or will not be documentation.

However, siting that many sources, I would suspect there is some valid claims there.

I suspect the guy was a bit of an ass, but so am I and I can still get the job done. Also, from experience, I know being an ass does not mean I can't do quality work and make sure everyone else gets their job done too.

In any event, until evidence is presented from both sides there is little point to argue. For the safety of slashdot, let us simply assumme my view is correct.

Also note, if you want to get out of speeding tickets, try calling the station and find out the officers day off. Then, have your court date set for that particular day. If you are lucky, he won't come in on his day off to sit in court.

On many accounts, a software engineer said, we are not in compliance... we should fix this.

All the while, management ignores the issue and tells the compliance folks they are in the clear.

Among other things, sounds like they directly foobarred him for not pushing the product through.

In a situation like this, where you are a code author for a criticl piece of software, do you really want to risk being brought up to discuss why things failed later... in a court of law.

Sounds like he did the best he could to cover his ass over a product that was being pushed through the door to meet a deadline.

Provided his complaints are well documented it should be an easy win for him and a nice exposure for some crap software.

Here, we had the unfortunate problem of the bottler plant going on strike. This happened right near the begining of the promotion and went on about half way through it. For a little while it wasn't horribly tough to get an iTunes promo bottle, but they quickly faded. We would normally see about 7 rows of non-iTunes pepsi and about 2 columns of iTunes promo endorsed goodness.

I'm not really sure why they went to the trouble of actually having a promotion when it was terribly difficult to purchase said product. (Not counting the time the plant was on strike)

In any event, I made the most of it as I did take steps to ensure I was a winner.

I still have a few sitting on my desk here. I'm not really going to use them. As soon as I did find some new things on iTunes a friend of mine went and nabbed whole albums by the artists I had sampled. Now, my friend didn't use iTunes, but another "network."

For once, I had these downloaded songs which were not of the other variety of downloaded music. It was initially a nice feeling... I chalked it up to something new. Then of course that was all washed away when my friend offered me the apple from the garden.

In any event... one free iTunes song for the world from me.
