Good point, but information you've used is not correct.
FY2008 Apple Unix Desktops revenue: $5.6 Bln.
Apple is fighting for PC/Windows desktops market share - they are not in traditional Unix market - big boxes for commercial workloads, mostly databases.
Are you kidding, right?
Information from IDC WW Quarterly Server Tracker - CY2008 total Unix Servers factory revenue:
IBM: $6 387 mln.
HP: $4 561 mln.
Apple: $99 mln.
Sorry, but Apple can't be classified as "major unix competitor".
I think they were talking about cruise missiles, which Russia recently tested, not ballistic ones like Satan SS-18.
Cruise subsonic missiles (like Tomahawk) are cheaper and much harder to intercept and they will hit the targets in Europe within 10-15 minutes.
We do run Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 9 in our company and it hadn't detected a SINGLE spyware!
You'd better use Microsoft Antispyware/Spybot/Adaware because Symantec's offering for corporate market is still lacking decent antispyware protection, although it is a great antivirus, much better that a Nortor Antivirus.
For those, who didnit get it.
Puppeteers are alien race from novel "Ringworld" by Larry Nivel. They were moving their home star system to a new galaxy to escape from the Core explosion.
To run Intel Linux / Windows on i5 (ex AS400/iseries) you need to purpose either card with intel cpu/memory (like blade) or special kit which can be used to connect i5 box to the intel (xseries) server. The main benefit of running intel apps on i5 is single-level storage.
Anyway it is a great box - i'm happy having one near my desk for two weeks. It is black, heavy, and rather quiet (for server):)
"So to recap, what apple is installing is "better" in terms of stability, and if they use faster-rated RAM (say, PC3000) to build it, the speed lost to ECC and buffering will be negligible compared to normal PC2700. Theres a good chance they used normal PC2700 with buffering and ecc, which would make it slower than PC2700 without."
I don't think that Appple use ECC or registred memory modules in MacMini. I also sure that a even a faster rated module will still run at a speed of PC2700, not at its rating speed (PC3200), so it is not true that a faster module is always better. So buying ECC/registred module is just wasting your money - your memory speed will be slower that a normal RAM and it costs more. ECC is good for servers, not for home PCs.
There are actually TWO versions of XP and Windows Server 2003 on MSDN:
First is usual MSDN with a limited number of activations (10 activations after 60 days)which should be used for testing purposes.
Second is volume license version, with does not require any activation at all. You can install this version on your company PC's if your business relations with Microsoft allows it.
Anyway you can't use it on your home PC without violation EULA. Dunno about notebook, if you use it at office too.
Now these failures aren't one or two machines. These are all machines. They all fail that way.
Well, I don't believe you. We have an IBM service center in our company I can judge personally how many
failures were caused by IBM's "bad design".
IBM PCs had only ONE critical problem - leaking capacitors on desktop motherboards, but it is not IBM fault - many vendors also had that problem.
btw: In some cases IBM service centers can repair your failed PC's under ECA even if it is out of a warranty. Leaked capacitors usually fixed under ECA.
For your information:
IBM DO NOT repair its PC's - all service duties lays on IBM business partners. If your company wants to get IBM business partner status to sell IBM's PC/Servers then your should have your own service center.
IBM only provides service centers with spare parts and repair informations/trainings.
All currently produced IBM PCs will be repaired in IBM Business Partnes service centers for a long time - IBM currenty offering service pack for 3+ years.
Btw: How many "laptop problems" did you have with ThinkPads?!
Last time Taco Bell promised a free vouchers for everyone if MIR hits a floating target.
NASA, PLEASE, don't miss the bulls eye now! I want my free burrito!
Sony could make iPod killer a looong time ago! Even before first flash-based mp3 players like Rio.
They just needed to add mp3 decoder to MD and make MD as a USB/FireWire mass storage device. Sony liked FireWire aka iLink and they created PERFECT MD players - small, sexy and power-efficient.
Media reports indicate that certification for WiMAX products may be delayed for six months, but a spokesperson for the WiMAX Forum said the reports are inaccurate.
Another prime mover of the technology, Intel Corp., also said it was not aware of any such postponements.
Some media outlets had reported there would be a delay in WiMAX rollouts due to a lack of readiness of the customer premise equipment, as well as the lab and team to do the certification testing.
WiMAX Forum spokeswoman Kendra Petrone described the report as inaccurate.

Has anybody experienced other successful ways to stimulate creativity at their workplace?
Easy!
Just provide me a free coca-cola supply, latest and fastest computer with a big flat LCD screen, pretty girls in the office to flirt with, and thats all!
(ps: a salary which allows me to buy a new Lexus every six month whould be also nice)
The government exists only to protect rights, not to guarantee a level playing field for everyone when they retire.
It should read as:
The government exists only to protect rights of upper class, not to guarantee a level playing field for everyone else when they retire.
Government steals, lies and cheats and you can't do nothing. If you are not reach, then deal with your problems yourself, but if you are, they can pass new bills to help make you more money.
Jetlag was nice - i saw it yesterday:)
But French don't make good action films (like Gladiator or Black Hawk down) - they edit it too fast.
I also don't like most french comedies like Taxi (original) and many others - they are too light for me to enjoy it.
Question! Corporate-wide antispyware software?

If your IT head doesn't have system updates somewhat automated with AV and spyware software he should be fired on the spot
Could you advice ANY good anti-spyware software which can be deployed corporate-wide? (with trial version)
Like Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition or TrendMicro OfficeScan? It is *PITA* to install/update defs and run spybot/adaware on every single computer on big LAN.

Everybody knows you can't use version number over 9.
Why not?
For example: Corel Draw 12 Oracle 10g and so on
But the problem is, there's no content.
How about *3D* games? They need no or minimum modification for 3D displays.
Don't spread rumors! There are *no problems* with normal Lotus Domino (Notes) servers and greyslisting - it is fully RFC compliant.
There can be some misconfigured or ancient SMTP servers, but you can always whitelist it if you really need to get email from such servers.
I did. I found the test too easy for experienced linux administrator.
