When I read the title, I thought "bah, computers have gone downhill if playing 3 streams simultaneously has become Slashdot-worthy. I could play 5 mp3 at the same time in BeOS back in a Pentium II 300"... And then I read the blurb and realized it was about DRM. Man, things have *really* gone downhill.
Oh, come on. The guy lost all his cred back in the first paragraph when he called Haskell "HASCAL". By the time I got to the BASIC snippet I was already laughing out loud.
Remember that George HW Bush was vice-president for Reagan, so even if you remembered Reagan, it's still an era with a Bush in power. So, there has been a Bush or Clinton in the White House since 1981.
"I assume that Apple is doing this to be able to add their own closed code" --
Yes, and "closed" is the operative word here. CUPS already has a friendly interface on OSX, and now they're no longer under the obligation to share back stuff to the rest of the Unix world.
"Third, we will almost certainly see true EASY set-up." --
Will Apple help Linux become a better contender or will it keep its advancements/printer drivers for itself? Yeah right. Even if they're saying they'll keep developing CUPS as open source doesn't mean they'll use the same branch for their own OS (remember the Darwin situation).
Actually, I think what's key in YouTube's early success over Google Video was that they required an older version of Flash, reaching a larger userbase. I remember not being able to open videos in Google Video but succeeding with YouTube, using some version of Konqueror. I assume the same applies to people running older browsers (say, IE5 on Win98), etc. The interface for comments might be quirky, etc (though it has improved recently), but they always excelled at compatibility for their videos -- and the streaming (at least from my end of the internet) was better.
You're out of date. You should say "Back to my Firefox and OpenOffice" when you're doing the "but-I'm-a-free-software-user-really" act after writing a post praising Microsoft.
Remember the NES Simpsons game, what was it called, "Bart vs the Space Mutants"? And then there was the 4-player arcade machine. That was classic.
Whoa, that was so long ago. Surely, the movie will be the swan song of the series. The classic cartoon style where nothing ever changes in the universe (or hardly changes, at least) made it hard for the Simpsons to remain interesting over the years. When Groening branched out to Futurama (and hell, that was 5 years ago already!) it was a clear sign that the Simpsons weren't interesting enough anymore even to its creator.
I hope the movie will coincide with the ending of the series, and will allow them to break free of the format's restrictions. It will either be entirely forgettable, or a masterpiece. Here's hoping for the latter, for old times' sake.
Two years ago.

This is so... amusing!

Hopefully this part was clearly spelled out in the acquisition contract, and not just as a gentlemen accord.
It means you can, but you can't call it CUPS anymore. (Or probably use the name CUPS in your name, either, like "CUPS-ng" or something like that".)

Need or want to get paid?
I wonder how much Plato was paid for writing The Republic.
Just had to say it.
Enough said.
Crap, Amiga has been gone for so long people don't even relate to these jokes anymore to mod them funny....

You must be too young to have played Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros. 3. Talk about an amazing sequel. :)
Using the indented blockquotes looks much easier on the eyes than the italics. Thanks for the change.
but it's tiring on the eyes to read so much italic text. But probably my headache today is not helping it either.
Try something like Syllable for extra geekitude.
Your karma may be up with the Funny mods, but with this question the nerd cred sure went low.

It is not gentlemanly to talk about what happened betwen 9:31 and 9:34.

Tags have got to be my new favorite feature. :)
Happy birthday, hemos. :)
You can pay me back next year.
The "fake news" thing got boring over the years. This is the best April Fools joke in /. in a long time.
/. team!
The WTF-ometer went to Overload when I opened the page. Kudos,
