It is unlikely that our governments want to give up their current level of power and control, and revert back to their former ways when they had more of a Libertarian view of things.

In the case of "the Dakotahs", it is correct to use this reference, since the Dakotas refers to both North and South Dakota. this term "the Dakotas" originates from when the location was a territory known as the Dakota Territory. The name of Dakota Territory came from the large group of Dakota, Lakota, and Nakota Indians from the region. The term "the Dakotas" is fairly accurate, since the general layout, topography, and climate is fairly similar between the two states.

By the way, South Dakota is a big tourist location for a reason, the geography has much to offer, from the rolling planes, to the Badlands (desert), to the Black Hills. (Also of note: The Black Hills hold significant religious value to the Dakota Native Americans.)

probably because his first computer was a compaq(i have no proof, but it's a good guess)

a budy of mine bought a dell, even though i and others told him not to. his power supply went out during warranty, got a new one. his power supply went out again, but this time he wasn't under the warranty any more. he couldn't drop a normal power supply in, because the locations were different and he would have to cut some metal. so he purchased a new case. the motherboard also had to be replaced as his old motherboard wasn't atx. he decided to buy a new sound card since his sound blaster live was proprietary. he also had to buy new ram, but that is because his old motherboard was rdram, not really a big issue, just sold the rdram to a friend.

anyways, when people buy these boxes that big companies like compaq, dell, hp, etc put together, they have little control of the components. thus when something dies they often have to buy an entirely new pc, and not just an individual component.

that's just my point of view, i have always built my own boxes, of course your experience may vary. i have seen some very good mass production boxes, but that was years ago when gateway made sweet pentium mmx/pentium II stuff.

  11. Re:legal system designed to control populace on UCSD Vs. Free Speech, Round 2 · · Score: 2, Interesting

This is only slightly related, but I'll run with it. Everyone seems to remember Thomas Jefferson saying that every ten or so years we need a revolution, maybe not a bloody one, but a revolution non-the-less. Why? To keep people involved and continunually thinking critically of the 'Government'. This keeps what is known as the 'Goverment' as being the people, not the beaurocracy. But when the southern states thought that they were no longer being represented fairly, they decided to get the fight the issue. The bloody war that ensued set an example, that the rights of the people and the states were to take back seat to the rules enforced by the central goverment. The central government is now so out of touch with the people that they believe that they are still in touch. They've told themselves their little lie for so long they believe it.

Here's the bad part, for as much as the Democrats and Republicans can say they are different, they are both so authoritarian and elitist, that they see no problem with what is going on. Republicans can say that they are more fiscally responsible, that they try to lower taxes, that they support rights, but where are their examples? Bush increased spending during his term, and we all know that Democrats support larger government.

The rest of the world can stop bitching and just wait, because our direction is heading right toward Socialism, there is no questioning that. And most of America is to complacent to even notice.

I own a USB version which is fairly nice, though some OSes don't like to not have a PS/2 keyboard. Windows and Linux work fine with a USB keyboard though, so I live with it.
