  1. Re:Capitalism on Power Laws, Weblogs, and Inequality · · Score: 1
When will you people get it?

Power Laws, and the social structures that exhibit such laws are a reflection of real life and unimpeded human interaction. The *only* time social networks don't exhibit such behaviors is when a very strong outside force acts to counteract this interaction a la Soviet-style oppressive communism.

Because these outside forces are so totally against normal human interaction, as evidenced by the Power Laws, eventually human nature will overwhelm these false, created forces and things will return to normal.

When will those who view the Socialist Uptopian Ideal as better than allowing human nature to take its course unimpeded, realize that just because some socialist planner says that a planned, scientifically-correct society will be better doesn't necessarily mean it will be?

Experience and historical failures of systems that try to override basic human nature will show intelligent people that it won't work.

Research into social systems and Power Laws should show even the most strident, brain-washed college socialist that it just won't work.

Many, many times on Slashdot I see postings exhorting people to stop being sheep, yet folks here seem to love Google which, at it's very essence, encourages flock behavior.

Think about it: At its core, the Google algorithm is based on what's popular and not what's necessarily best from an objective standpoint. Although a case could be made that what is popular is, in a roundabout way, what's best, I would think that the thinkers among us would be able to provide the philosophical argument that I am thinking of concerning popularity vs. quality.

I would really like to see a discourse on the effect of Google on society.

Has anyone ever seen anything written about this fact?

the scanning project got underway in the spring of 2001

that means that it, like all government programs, was planned several years in advance, most likely during the sex fiend's administration.

So, like every other pitiful attempt to heap scorn upon those currently in power, all you have done is lower your credibility to somewhere near zero.

Take your little angsty, Chomsky-inspired rants elsewhere, because exposure to the truth once again blows your 'theories'.

Now you have a choice readers: you can mod me down because the lie was exposed as a pathetic attempt to discredit, with no basis whatsoever in truth or, if you are a lover of the truth you can leave this post as is.

I have to say that I am rarely as disgusted by opinions but yours really take the cake for ignoring the obvious and good and focusing on the small, negative aspects. Only a blind fool with an agenda could be as selective in their examples as you are. Your lack of either knowledge or unbiased views about the complicity of the Japanese in WWII is stunning! To selectively assert that the US is responsible for WWII because some conspiracy theory about a 'mistranslated' surrender is a fine example of your selective hate for the US.

Your selective interpretation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as a bad thing based soley on the fact that it only applied to white males is incredible. To be able to overlook the incredible amount of good that those documents caused could only mean that Chomsky has defiled your young brain to the point of your having a bias that you simply cannot overcome long enough to take a neutral look at anything the US does.

I dismiss you as a waste of time.

The police 'blotter', a record of arrests, is public information in the United States of America. Anyone, including you, can walk into a police station and ask to see the blotter. You might get a hassle because they are more used to reporters looking at it but they have to let you see it since it is a public record.
