I recently signed up for the free trial of Anarchy on-line, and while familiarizing myself with the controls (and still under a n00b shield =) someone kept lobbing missiles or somesuch at me.
"my economy is hardly centrally controlled. if everyones' goal is to better themselves,"
Everyone's goal isn't to better themselves. Some people want to sleep, eat and smoke pot. Some people just want to make babies. Some people want to see cool things. Some people want to fight.
Some people just want to live.
Without a central authority to force/entice these people to be productive, it won't work.
Apple has increased its brand value by 38 percent in the last four years...
Wow...just wow. I mean, is this news or what? As a Slashdot visitor, I've always been very concerned with things like "Brand Value". So it's great see news like this being put up.
Seriously, thirty eight percent! Tell all your friends! And when you're working on that code/breadboard/computer case, be sure to keep this valuble nerd knowlege in mind.
Does Apple just send big bags of money to the Slashdot editors or what?
It amazes me that perfectly rational geeks will allow themselves to be fleeced by these online Wal-Marts...
Well, for one, Amazon was cheaper than going to a brick and mortar, and they were fast.
Were fast. Now that they're pushing their "Pay us 80$ and you'll get your books FAST! It takes me two weeks to get a book out of them.
It never occured to me to look for the places you listed. Thanks! But their web page design needs an upgrade. It looks like a page of links that you get from a cybersquatter.
Normal Sci-fi sets require a lot of design, complex building and dramatic lighting.
Firefly outdoor scenes: a brothel in the middle of the desert. A tent. A rock in the middle of a desert. A reusable western town. A corral...For cattle.
Fraiser may save on the cost of the scenes, but I'm sure the actors and writers salaries make up for it.
Anarchy Online.
Anarachy.
Get it?

Great. I value "not working". How much work do I have to do to get that from your new centrally controlled economy?
Or you don't pay attention to what's going on, and that's why you don't have options 3-7 on your list.
Plus the arrogance to push "My understanding is the only correct way to look at this issue."
Sheesh.
Theory is great, but I don't live there, and neither do any of my applicances which need electricity.
That smoke is saving our lives. It's reduces the amount of sun that has reaches the surface.
"fusion plants..."
Woah, we have working fusion plants? And by working, I mean "Puts out more energy than it takes in."
I don't get why people are so in love with fusion. It produces as much radiation as fission.
"then we change the economy."
Yeah, it's about time we brought back slave labor.
Take an econ class. Sheesh.
It's good to see that Nuclear Power is getting more popular.
Heh. So, which has more CPU power? A G4 or a Pentium M?
Holy cow. You're an Apple certified tech?
Did you miss the day where they showed where the shift key and the period was? Or is that advanced training?
I like the rest of the show enough to deflect that issue with my "Suspension of Disbelief".
Look...spaceworthy?
Are you kidding me? What, it's not aerodynamic enough for you?
Bah. F-prot is the most unobrustive virus protection I've found.
Shouldn't we have to be MUCH MORE willing to accept that there are girls in IT?
Statistical anomaly.
Holy...
I've been on Slashdot since the mid 90s, this is the first apology I've seen.
...Did you just blame political correctness on the Republicans?
And here I thought all that Feminism stuff came from the left. Yep, modern feminists, just a bunch of left wingers.
Sheesh.
Big Dramatic Launch. The rocket soon shoots out of visual range.
Then everyone breaks for lunch.
"Hey, does anyone know where our spacecraft is?"
'Sorry, tracking the craft wasn't included in the package. Good luck with that though.'

Heh. I've got a pile of "Kit Plane" magazines too.
My first big financial investment will be a condo though. Ah well.

Preferably young, female, blonde, open minded and impressionable.
And the image of a cross-dressing "Gumby" pops into my head. Thanks.

Imagine an advertless channel, full of free shoes that none of the normal stations can justify paying for...
That...I...
Shoes?
I lend out my DVDs, and I have yet to get a negative response.
Of course, I ask "Do you like Sci-fi" first. I wonder if non-sci-fi people would like it.
