"If on your campus you had an assault and battery or a murder, you'd go down to the district attorney's office and deal with it that way," said Rep. William Jenkins, R-Tenn.
Funny, it seems to me that there was assault and battery AND murder in congress; where is the big crackdown? Amazing how when laws start affecting congresswhores, laws (and interns) seem to dissapear. I thought goverment was by, for, and all about the goddamn people - when did it turn into a service to the highest bidder? Where is equal protection and justice under the law?
"While I'm sympathetic to the young people, they're breaking the law," warned Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif. "Until the university or this committee is going to do something about it, we're wasting everyone's time."
First of all Maxine, we don't care if you're 'sympathetic to the young people'. That's crap. If you were, you would work to change the law, rather than pursue a unpopular law.
Maxine, you are sympathetic to the money ($12,500) you recieved from the Entertainment industry, much like your pal. meh.
Virtual Pc running on a PC completely bypasses Zone Alarm installed on the host when accessing the net.
I have no idea about the Mac ver, since I dont have any blinkenlights or outgoing firewall to tell me when network access is taking place. (Remember when you had to worry about network access from the *outside*?)
There is no reason (for me) to upgrade VPC for the mac past ver 6, unless they somehow make it 50x faster and run Beos.
Everyone has said how 20 bucks isn't anything, but it's pure profit! I'm assuming these kids don't have to click 'Send' 1.6 million times, and they don't pay for bandwidth.

Crap! It's free money, with no responsibillity attached, and poor college students would stand in line at the finger-smelling factory if they didn't have to work.
I thought I'd present angry Linux users with some new acronyms - gotta stay ahead of the MS marketing department...

Sorry, that was a typo. It was supposed to be, "Suess took care of five million soldiers, joints, and the odd unforeseen problem."
I'm guessing that Suess was a huge pothead, and traded dope to the soldiers in exchange for the hardware. The "odd unforseen problem" was when he ran out.
It's all right here in this web site. Just don't/. it. Five million soldiers don't take kindly to DoS.
Wow. First the article on Google, now eBay. Out of curiosity, I looked for my ISPs privacy policy. None. Under ToS it says we'll do whatever and fully cooperate with Law enforcement.
Imagine being able to search:
Every page you've ever been to.
What you have searched for on Google.
Everything you have looked at, purchased, or sold on eBay.
All financial information from Paypal.
All the people you've sent/recieved email to/from.
I'm sure I'm missing a few things - but who needs TIA when these companies are bending over backwards to provide all this info?
Poindexter probably figured this out and got a raise for saving so much money...:(
Like ebay, who doesn't return any specifics of their ongoing cases, I highly doubt law enforcement officials are going to hand over info to you. Too much chance of a sequel to Death Wish.
Now the pedophiles, blocked from quietly wanking at home, will have to go to a day care, steal a kid, and commit horrible acts in the comfort of the back of their van.
No good can come from this.

Why no anger at the media outlets who overhype crap all the time? Sure, you bought into it and then found out it wasn't an anti-grav belt. Why blame Segway? Unless of course they paid for all that media attention....
"In the next release of Windows, currently called 'Longhorn', we will require the user to have no less than two 'always on' Broadband connections. These 'pipes' if you will, will be connected directly to our servers in Redmond."
"This will be necessary in order to ensure Windows is properly licensed, and that no unlicenced behavior is taking place on our machines. We will also leverage this connection to bring the user the latest content from Hollywood, and the Music industry. All this will be registered with Microsoft, insuring that the content you license from us is always up-to-date, and revisable. And properly licensed to you for that day or minute. The time period is up to the user! Consumers demand flexabillity!"
"It's true that our new version of Windows will only run on PCs with no keyboard or mouse. We think that removing user input will make our machines safe from unlicensed content, and inappropriate user behavior such as running programs or creating unlicensed content. When users of our machines see the wide variety of properly licensed content available to them, we think they'll agree that user input is dangerous and unnecessary."
"As Microsoft moves into other license delivery systems, you will be seeing more and more properly licensed content, and have less opportunities for dangerous 'input'! That's a great thing!"
I've been through many of these posts, and they all seem to revel in the difficulty of the Segway company. Geez. By the reactions, you'd think a Segway had sex with your mom and then said, "I just wanna be friends..."
I think that the 'angry' responses are from people who would buy one if they could easily afford one - much like linux users who put down macs, while secretly drooling over one.
Did it deserve the huge media hype? Does American Idol? Probably not. Will it make you fat? No. Will cities tear out roads to accomadate it? No. Was it overhyped? Yes. Is there any reason to kick it when its down? No.
The Segway seems to be a good product that is trying to fill a niche. Since it *is* overpriced, and fighting a cultural battle (SUVs driven to get the mail at the end of the driveway), it won't do well. I think the idea is ahead of its time. Change the way cities are built? Maybe. But not now.
Just remember, the Segway didn't have sex with your mom. I did.

The book was called "The Secret of Terror Castle", and was my first introduction to the mysteries of sound waves. I just read this about 6 months ago (going through some stuff from kid days...)and it is still a good book; they have their headquarters in a junkyard, Jupiter Jones builds gadgets and repairs stuff they find there to use in the solving of crimes and mysteries.
Very geeky, realistic(YMMV), and cool in that early 60's sort of ham radio way.

How about full, free disclosure on anyone (including celebrities and politicians, and people who don't want disclosure), and logs of who requests the data?
If all the info is available to everyone, and the knowledge of who is searching on you is known, what is the danger?
Obviously, I'm forgetting about identity theft and fraud - but we need better systems in place to prevent that anyhow.
Just a crazy thought. If everyone knows what they want to about anyone, doesn't that remove some of the reason for identity theft, and 'nosy nellies'?
What can I say? He makes it easy. Clinton wasn't a hell of a prez either, but he is not in office.
"Anyone can be president" has taken on a twisted, nightmarish reality, instead of the being an *inclusive* statement as it was originally intended to be. I am tired of the marketing of the office, the focus groups and polls that define modern office holders. I am tired of the mixing of religion and politics, and the forcing of morals on citizens. I am tired of the constant call to "The War on (fill in the blank)" that provides no change, and fills the pockets of those who have a vested interest in constant chaos. I am tired of old white men with millions and millions of dollars foisting their paternalistic attitudes on my life, all the while hiding their own indiscretions and pretending they know how it is to be a lower middle class unemployed black woman.
So, I *do* disagree with our beloved president. I also disagree with the limited number of choices helpfully provided by the two major parties, and the obstacles to real choice.
I repeat myself. When Harvard turns out 'students' (in the loosest sense) that don't have a grasp of the English language, a Masters Degree from that illustrious hall of higher learning fails to impress me.
