...a couple years ago when I wrote VHDL for a simple 4 bit processor. Seeing it run on that FPGA board was almost holy...it was like I had penetrated the mysteries of the universe or something.
Wiring it all together must have been even more transcendent.
Anybody that does it and wants to make money pretty much has to gouge. There is usually no valuable (monetarily) data on the machine, and the machine itself is usually worth less than 300 bucks, so you can't realistically charge more than 100 bucks including parts. Anything that takes longer than 30 minutes is just not gonna work.
It's grossly wasteful, but I just tell people to replace the thing. I'll do data recovery if they want to pay, but that's about it.
At that point, armed resistance becomes the only option. I don't see it happening though...and in any case, a bunch of disorganized loons with pitchforks and assault rifles are going to get a bullet way before the slackers do. Our government is so clueless it will probably never figure out the damage being done to it by slackers.
"I find your belief that one should not be willing to stand up and fight for what is right odd. It is what this country was founded upon." nd This country was founded ON the principle of freedom and equality. Its founding INVOLVED fighting and killing people. In those times, the populace had a good chance of overthrowing a corrupt government. In these times, the populace will be slaughtered if it tries that.
Getting slaughtered accomplishes nothing. Take a gander at the effectiveness of violent change that the insurgents in Iraq are implementing. They kill some people, and manage to make the entire country a shithole, but they aren't going to make any progress...even if the US pulls out.
Slacking starves the beast. If the populace won't work, there is nothing for the rich to steal.
If you want to kill/get killed so you can have your share of consumer goods, that's your business, but you will lose your life, your vote, and your ability to have any influence on the situation. Slacking on the other hand allows you to continue to influence others and live a simple, stress free life. It's the only practical option we have left.
Not sure what you mean by economic...I meant pretty much what you describe...writing code and music, growing some veggies or livestock. No cash involved, just give what you don't need to people you like.
...so long as it isn't taxable, and I have complete control over who benefits, which is tricky, as you say. Probably more work making sure your labor doesn't get misappropriated than the labor itself.
For this tactic to work, I have to get lots of people doing it, though, and they want a payoff for the stuff they wont be able to buy...hence the free time angle.
I'm proud to say, by slacking, I've cut the government out of 40k in taxes this year. Not too shabby for doing as I damn well please for the most part.
...starve them. They make their money off us, off of what we buy, off of what we earn. If we cut our earning and spending to the bone, it cuts their food supply.
Work as little as possible, buy as little as possible.
This requires no organization.
This requires no violence.
This requires no breaking of laws.
This requires no political power.
The only sacrifice is being poor, and we are going to end up that way anyway.
"The SCO Group intends to maintain all normal business operations throughout the bankruptcy proceedings. Subject to court approval, SCO and its subsidiaries will use the cash flow from their consolidated operations to meet their capital needs during the reorganization process."
I haven't heard of anyone running SCO since the early 90's. Does reorganization mean "moving our stuff out of the building"?
..unsolicited, and while its a cool device, that proprietary format sucks. I have a massive CD collection ripped sitting on a shared drive, and everytime she wants something she has to let Itunes convert it and store another copy of the song.
I think apple makes dealing with existing collections difficult so you are pushed to buy from their store. In my case, it pushes me away from buying IPods.
...allow some choice of which network card they come with, as well as allowing you to replace them fairly easily. The Dells even let you replace the video...so if you learned the hard way about ATI and linux, you can put an nvidia card in.

By THEY, I meant their government, not their people. Yes, their government has set their currency artificially cheap, which gives their people an advantage over ours in pretty much anything that can be manufactured and exported. Yes, the dollar is, (for now at least) the world reserve currency, and has had its value propped up by the fact that it was the only currency used to purchase oil for the past 30 years, which is adding to the problem.
Does that prove that the Chinese government does not have a long term plan to hollow out the United States industrial and technical base that supports our military superiority and propensity to invade other countries? No.
...when I drive. I NEED a machine to man the chain gun so I can concentrate on maneuvering.

I for one would welcome our high speed lizard overlords.

My Variax gives me that at the stomp of a pedal...and it doesn't hose the intonation.
Weight. Noise. Power requirements. Mechanical complexity.
No thanks.

What's political? The statement merely points out how dumb it is to blow money on electronics when you don't have enough to eat.

I think the hundred bucks could be used a lot more effectively on infrastructure, hospitals and contraception.
WAV? AIFF? Uncompressed formats on a portable player? Proprietary, no. Useful? No.
AAC? Would you rip your CD collection to AAC unless you were a complete Apple or Sony fanboy?
MP3? Oh come ON!
..or is he suing her too?
