Maybe others have commented on this, but my prime dislike of DVDs stems from the regional settings on different dvds. I can't buy a DVD in France or Japan and have it work here.
In a time when our economy is becoming ever more global, we are full of market segmentation anyway. If these new DVDs don't get rid of the regional settings it will cost the American consumer a lot.
When I compare myself to my sister, we think about computer completely differently. I say "well the computer is looking for this, thinking that, doesn't know what...". My sister doesn't see computers that way - she views it as a machine, and it can't "think."
I don't even have a job - I'm in high school - and I only started using Linux recently (7 months or so). Yet I have always thought this way concerning computers. The difference is really between people's natural ways of thinking - my sister finds Windows somewhat confusing too.
The main problem with ease-of-use is being able to think from a non-technical person's point of view. "I just want it to be able to do this." But with the average user being non-technical, there will always be problems with any OS (under windows, for example, the average user is notorious for mishandling e-mail attachments, etc...).
I see your point, but the article is saying that we are burning up oil faster than it could possibly be replenished - thus using a Hummmer instead of a bicycle or smaller car is wasting a lot of time/precious resources.
If oil took seconds to produce there would be no controversy at all in regards to supply, it would just be the global warming effects.
but if you are just looking for a home pc I wouldn't get Windows XP at all. There is a website (forget the link, sorry) that tells you how to get a full refund for any MS software that is bundled with your computer that you do not use.
The reason I would stay away from Windows is that many Linux distros come with all the free software you can possibly need, whereas Windows is $$$.
GNOME and KDE are great, and they both come with web browsers, mail programs (evolution looks similar to outlook if you like that), imaging software, ftp clients, firewalls, etc... Then there are the benefits of Linux vs Windows such as system security and stability.
Fred: Hey look! Scooby found something!
Velma:Why, it's Mr. RIAA! So he's the one who's been trying to stop our P2P sharing. He's the first person I suspected.
Scooby: waohooo....
Shaggy: Man this makes me hungry... I want to download some more mp3s.
If nobody wrote viruses or took advantage of insecure systems, computing would be much cheaper and everyone would lead a happier life, except maybe the people at Norton.
It appears to me the French are the only ones who did not surrender to Bush's pressure to go fight in Iraq, but instead adamantly opposed the whole idea.
This is like saying the fire department hires arsonists so that it can put out fires.
Or the Department of Defense creates weapons of mass destruction so it can take over a country.
... Is not as much as it may first seem. Inflation must be taken into account - there is certainly a great decrease in the price of hard disks and an increase in their capacity, but the price reduction can't be overestimated.
Don't touch ME or I'll call the police!

I come from ancient Egypt, you insensitive clod!
"...instead of being able to cram out 0,2543 fps on Halo..."
:)
Assuming the ',' is a decimal point, I sure wouldn't want to have 0.2543 fps on halo either.
Besides the fact that your post wasn't funny, what is a pirated RedHat cd?

7. I am a personal robot, you insensitive clod!
An old soviet joke was as follows: And yet another achievement by soviet science - they have perfected the world's largest microchip!

So right now your computer is slow, but speeds up over time. Woah!
And for the headphones - I can't hear in my right ear, you insensitive clod!

Those are my two cents.
Now some say that the commission ones are unethical - unless I don't know my brother well (doubtful), he does a very good job.
He could be the exception, I wouldn't know since I'm not in the business. But not all headhunters are that way.
you insensitive clod!
Lots of people tote 64-bit as the giant leap into the future, that will make eveything a million times faster/better etc...
Yeah, 64-bit is where we are headed, and a good thing, but it's not like computers don't work fast running 32-bit.

Shipping Mandrake Linux with a... Windows keyboard! (see specs)
If they tested AIX then SCO would be on their backs trying to find out how the test was already patented by SCO.
It appears to me the French are the only ones who did not surrender to Bush's pressure to go fight in Iraq, but instead adamantly opposed the whole idea.
Is your friend :) That or just various forms of caffeine.
The whole thing is really cool, but what about a keybaord? He shows two mice but no keyboard, I guess you can just paste stuff from the character map.
