I want VR for looking at 360 videos/streaming. I find it much more immersive than a standard 2D photograph/video. Some kind of Facebook where people could share that stuff would be awesome. I'm not opposed to the idea of VR games or some kind of VR Second Life, but that's not what particularly interests me, either.
The controllers do seem game-focused, so maybe you will get your wish. Just don't confuse what you want with what everybody interested in VR wants.
You have mental problems. Seriously, your recent post history also has you posting 20 times in anotehr thread accusing people of being Chinese shills (and Hillary Clinton shills) and now this long rambling post about people being paid to talk bad about Linux on an obscure website frequented by old IT professionals...
Get off the site (which is feeding your paranoia) and get help.
Yeah, I think this is a legit (if overblown) concern with the 80 miles range cars, depending on how far you drive. But once you get to 220 miles (like the low-end version of Tesla 3), who spontaneously drives 220 miles?
Furthermore, at least in the Bay Area, there are several hundred chargers in the city I'm in and surroundings. Including a bunch of them at my work. So if by some chance I do run into an emergency it's not really a problem.
There's no denying that having the ability to quickly re-fuel is an advantage of ICE. But on the other hand, being able to charge the car overnight and start each day with a full tank is an advantage of EVs.
You and your wife both drive 150-200 miles/day? Like, 60,000 miles/year? While consuming only 11kWh/day for your home? Surely your numbers are off...
Either way, if your home is capable of running a clothes dryer you should be able to re-charge electric no problem. I drive 50 miles a day (which I consider a pretty shitty commute) and recharge off a standard 110v no problem.
Huh? Companies constantly talk about re-inventing themselves. Software companies get into hardware get into TV shows. Google and Apple got into cars for Christ sakes. Your story is stupid (and has other possible explanations) and the moral is demonstrably untrue and you should feel bad.
Huh? Average workers still draw a lot more salary than CEO, so replacing the workers make more sense. Lower-end jobs like driving a taxi or a truck are also much easier to automate than a CEO.
Realistically, if technology could effectively replace a CEO it would already happen.
Maybe you live in a city and don't need to drive most of the time, but have an occasional need. Maybe you share a car with your spouse and that works fine most of the time, but occasionally you need a second car...Uber isn't expensive and owning a car isn't cheap.
Why not? Even if it's empirically shown that self-driving cars are safer than human cars (and this is going to happen soon), people are still not going to trust AI cars, just because. Maybe they saw a scary sci-fi movie as a kid, maybe they have a false sense of control behind the wheel, who knows.
If the rational case is already made but isn't getting through, it makes sense to advertise against peoples' in-born prejudice against self-driving cars.
How do they possibly suggest you're evil? The real question is, why do you take an obvious pride out of having a shitty old TV? It doesn't make you anti-establishment and cool, it just makes you a guy who happens to have an old TV.
Electric cars don't work when the power goes out, ICE powered cars do. Well you can't charge them if the infrastructure gets wiped out, I suppose, but you also can't re-fill a tank of gas if the infrastructure gets wiped out.
Electrics cars are a rich man's toy, ICE powered cars are practical vehicles. You can lease an electric car for $200/month, with very small fuel charges. They're not a rich man's toy unless you buy an expensive one...same as with ICE cars.
Mary Barra is just another beancounter in a long line of beancounters who has no understanding of the technology her company sells for a living. Or she reads the news and sees that many countries are mandating all-electric driving fleets in the future, and the there are already cars that are good enough to make this law practical. Giving up on electric cars means giving up on China, India, France, etc.
There's been more than half a million electric cars sold in the US, and the largest car company by cap size (for the time being) is entirely electric cars. There are a number of countries which have enabled laws that they will only allow electric cars to be sold within the country. Certainly every single car company is serious about electric cars, because that's just a part of the business now.
Or people who trust the track record of a specific brand. I've bought Apple or Samsung phones before, I know they worked fine, and so I'm happy to buy them again.
I might be willing to try a new brand, but the higher percent chance that I will have a problem has to be priced into the phone. For an unknown brand to charge the same as an established brand, it has to be compellingly better...when really it looks about the same or slightly worse as other phones in the price range.
I'm on the waiting list for a 3 and will give the car a good test drive and read reviews before deciding to get the car. I don't think touchscreen v. dozens of buttons is necessarily a killer issue, and I expect that UI rough patches will be fixed by software update by the time. And still I'm really discouraged by these articles.
What's most offensive to me is that cars are being released like a video game, where it's put out into the public and then the maker vows to fix it sometime later. The car can't even play music, except through Slacker Radio! Really, Bluetooth doesn't work, there's no AM/FM hardware (eventually it will have TuneIn), there's no audio-in, there's no USB audio...
It's like...WTF? A car which can't even play music is a car that should have had the release delayed a month or two until they got the basics worked out. I don't mind minor adjustments or fixes, but this seems like an unfinished car, released into the wild.
1) Every retailer except bodegas is a chain. I mean, of course they have 7-11s, but the place on the corner or in a strip mall is locally owned by some family of immigrants.
2) I had never heard of the term "bodega" until like a week ago. Liquor stores or corner stores.
You are an engineer and you can't afford $40/month for a cheap plan? And you don't think a little handheld computer with internet access has at least the potential to be useful?

To be fair Kia Souls are generally acknowledged as being very good cars. They look a little weird but then again so do most Slashdot commentators.

People see the big MPG number from a fuel-efficient vehicle and think they're making a big difference in fuel consumption. It's actually the opposite
Huh? Who would possibly think this? I'd love to see a single example.
It's easier+cheaper to make a small vehicle electric, which is why that's been the trend. Your whole post is bullshit.
Do they really need to specify both twins and siblings?

Plus...Sprint?
I think we can all agree...anybody who owns a device with both a microphone and some kind of internet connection is a total idiot!

Great post, grandpa! Any stories for us about how a bowl of soup used to cost just a nickle?
That shows they don't have courage! Mod me +5 Funny! I am saying "courage" in an Apple article!
You didn't read the article title. "Fathers Pass On Four Times As Many New Genetic Mutations As Mothers, Says Study." This is about fathers, not sons.
who gets paid in pounds lol

Down .42% for the day! Holy crap! Sell, sell, sell!
