MSNBC is reporting that Microsoft will enter in the online auction business next month and it will have super special security guaranteeing no fraud! Okay, so I made that up. ;)
He made a big mistake this time. Google is going to kick his ass and countersue and before we know it we're going to see "PetsWarehouse.com now owned by Google". Right now I'm assembling a ravenous, drooling, insane mob of/. firstposters to go down to his store and rough him up.
According to the article, when describing the bill, Rep. Lofgren says "This would not authorize someone taking their digital content and sharing it with a million of their best friends."
Then later in the article Jack Valenti is quoted as saying "If this bill were to pass, it would render ineffective, worthless and useless any protection measure we would have in place to protect a $100 million movie. You could download a million movies a day, and no penalty for it."
Is Valenti just an idiot? Why would someone in such a public position such as his make a statement like that without knowing the facts first? Good job, Jack, you have just now officially proven what we speculated all along, that you are not above LYING to sway the public to your cause.
The RIAA would love to take all the credit and say that the music subscription sites succeed because the P2P services are getting worse, but that's simply not true. The guerilla tactics hardly put a dent in my p2p experience. It sounds to me like the subscription services are just getting better. They know what we want, they've just been afraid to offer it to us because they coudn't put together a viable business model.
For the price of a good PC video card, I can get a Playstation 2(w/ cpu, mobo, RAM, video and audio, dvd player, controller, etc.). I'll stick with the consoles.
I know most geeks couldn't get their eyes off the the photo of the girl, but did anybody notice the caption under it?

We can assume that the high school kids who write this way are the ones who spend the most time on the computer, which are typically the affluent. The affluent typically end up in college and whoa baby are they going to be surprised when their English 101 professor is 60 years old and doesn't give a rats ass about how they do it on the internet. They're are going go get their butts kicked by college English professors. That is why this is problem. So for those of us whose had to actually learn spelling and grammar, and who took typing class in high school on actual typewriters, we can be relieved to know that college professors will set these kids straight.
I always felt that since manufacturing costs are going down, but CD prices are not, they should give us a little more with the CDs we buy. The Dave Matthews Band's latest album "Busted Stuff"(which has been floating around the internet for a year under the name "The Lillywhite Sessions")was released packaged with a free DVD which had two great live performances, and one song (audio only) in 5.1. It was sort of a DVD "single" if you will. It gave fans a real reason to buy even though just about everybody had already downloaded the same songs on the internet. That's smart marketing.
As a SysAdmin at MIT you were in a job that many slashdotters are probably envious of, and I imagine that it took a great deal of hard work to obtain such a position. I noticed your age, and so I wonder: Since you are so young, and you'll be barely in your mid twenties when released, have you given any thought to your future career prospects? Do you think this experience could make you more desireable as a programmer, or security consultant, for instance? Or do you think it will be virtually impossible to work in the IT field again? Have you received any offers? It would be a real shame if you weren't able to put your skills toward a legitimate project when you get out. I wish you the best of luck

After 9/11 last year I heard a lot of families all saying the same thing. They all wanted just one more day with their deceased family members so they can let them know how much they were loved. So, I came to a decision. I'm not going to be glued to the television to see any memorial services. In fact, I decided that today I will not turn on the television or radio at all. I will not be attending any local memorial services either. In what will become a family tradition, I am having my whole family over tonight, because I have the time now, the time that so many families would just love to have back. I am going to spend the day appreciating and thanking God for what I have, rather than lamenting over what "we" have lost. If you have kids, turn off the tv and spend some quality time with them (seeing planes flying into buildings isn't really helping them anyway).I think we all should take this day to get in touch with our loved ones and let them know how we feel right now, because, if nothing else, 9/11 taught us that we could lose everything we love in a single moment.
I'm sure lots of people will do different things today as a reaction to what happened, but this is just my opinion. I'm not saying it's for everybody.
That's all fine and good but if it's streaming and I can't put it on a format playable in the car, then it's worth nothing to me. I can't play it on my living room stereo system either. Why don't these people get it? So, for $10 we get nothing at all.
I have had the Tallman album for a while now and they have become one of my favorite bands. My band, Local Porn Star, was supposed to play with them up in Toronto, but it fell through.
Those missing kids notices and non-profit group announcements that they send do not qualify as "any material advertising the commercial availability or quality of any property, goods, or services", so therefore, those particular fax messages would be exempt from the laws. Right?
Americans want broadband. They just can't justify spending $50 for it when their $20 AOL does the job just fine. When broadband costs $19/month everyone will get it.
The article failed to mention that Hopbits are typically smaller than Dwarves, usually fat and jovial, with large hairy feet.

Come on guys let's get with it here.

It made it as a slashdot headline, it's already reached it's audience.

It's already been broadcast in the east coast.
;-) just having a little fun.
Sorry about the spoiler.

Can we measure brain waves when people are excited, or sexually aroused, and then make music out of that? I bet it would sell like crazy.
