  1. El cheapo Monitor on Sony Recants on Dead Pixels (Sort Of) · · Score: 1

I bought this cheapass monitor and got NO dead pixels. My brother got a Dell monitor and it has one. He doesn't notice though.

  2. No worse than movies on Senator Clinton Slams GTA · · Score: 1

These games are no worse than movies. You want to talk about prostitutes and murder, check out the recent movie Monster with Charlize Theron. It has all the above. Parents wouldn't let their child watch that rated R movie so why are they letting their kids play a rated M game? It really is THE SAME THING. Nobody is telling Hollywood to stop making these movies, but it's okay to complain about the gaming industry and their lack of morals. They say the games are being pushed to kids but I don't know too many kids who are paying $50 for these games(I believe M rated games have age restrictions for sales by many retailers anyway). Either their parents buy them or they just don't get them. Hillary is right. There is a HUGE PROBLEM in this county and it's not the games...it's the PARENTING.

  3. Of course its no problem on "English" Not Threatened By Webspeak · · Score: 1

How about something new guys? I don't mean to troll, but if this is the most creative you can be then this company is going downhill fast. Whatever happened to the Apple that had all those great new ideas?

  8. P2P enables artists to "grow on you" on Has P2P Influenced Your Music Tastes? · · Score: 2, Insightful

Before P2P, I would only purchase "sure thing" albums that I heard on the radio and thus already loved and wanted to hear over and over. The thing about P2P is when it's all free you are able to aquire an entire album that you aren't sure about yet (since there is no monetary risk involved), and listen to it therefore letting it grow on you. You get the opportunity to take a chance on several bands that you might not otherwise purchase the CD. One example is the band "The Mars Volta". Nobody, and I mean nobody, heard this band the first time and though "I love this!". I downloaded some tracks and it took me a few listens before I realized it's pure genius. Only then when I loved the album did I purchase the CD (and on the day their second album was released I was first in line, without having to hear any of it). The same is true with many hardcore or metal bands that get no radio airplay. My musical tastes have grown greatly because I have a chance to hear all kinds of artists that I otherwise would not take a chance on.

  10. Roll your own... on Short History of Cellphone Ringtones · · Score: 1

This article got me thinking...could I make my own? After hitting up google it looks like yes, but you need to pay for uploading software to get it onto your phone. There must be a "free" way to do this.

  11. Metacritic? on Google Announces 'Google Movies' · · Score: 4, Informative

I'll stick with metacritic.com to get my film reviews. While I'm there I can also get videogame, dvd, and cd reviews. Plus, they give a rating from 0-100 which is much more useful than the 1-5 Google is using.

  12. My prediction on EA Founder Predicts MS Purchase of Nintendo · · Score: 1

I predict that in 5 years MS pulls out of the console race entirely based on poor Xbox 3 sales. Then MS buys EA. MS is a software company so it actually makes sense.

  13. From the link on iDownload Tries to Silence Spyware Critics · · Score: 5, Informative

iSearch claims it "displays links to and advertisements of related websites based on the information you view and the websites you visit; store non-personally identifiable statistics of the websites you have visited;"

If that isn't spyware, I don't what is. In fact, isn't that the definition of "spyware"?

They also claim to "conveniently without your input or interaction; install software from iSearch affiliates; and install Third Party Software".

    That's scary stuff!

  14. Re:O'Reilly! What else? on How Would You Select a Textbook? · · Score: 2, Informative

I also forgot to add that most O'Reilly books are in the $40 range, which is quite a difference from those $80-$100 textbooks.

  15. O'Reilly! What else? on How Would You Select a Textbook? · · Score: 3, Informative

Why don't more professors require the O'Reilly books? For most topics, I know we have to purchase some $100 textbook for class, but when we get on the job we end up just buying the O'Reilly reference book. Why not require your students to purchase the O'Reilly book and then just teach selected topics from it? That way they already have the very best reference book to take to work with them. Look at this for instance: Javascript, the Definitive Guide. Now they'll never need another Javascript book. They'll thank you when they get into the workplace.

  16. Re:Finally on Blockbuster Sued Over Late Fees Claim · · Score: 1

So let me get this straight...
Before, if I was late I was charged a fee of $3.95 to basically rent it another week.
Now if I'm late I'm charged $19.95 and there's nothing I can do about it.
    How does that benefit me?
Anyway, in my town there is a Movie Gallery across the street from every Blockbuster, so they just helped me make up my mind where to rent. Thanks. I worked for Movie Gallery one summer, and the managers contantly push "customer service" because they know that's where Blockbuster lacks. Blockbuster hires kids looking for free game rentals, however Movie Gallery hires real movie buffs, like me, who can engage the customer in good discussions on movies. I enjoyed that job very much, even though it paid $5.15/hr.

  17. I'm just glad it's not an auto update or svc pack. on Microsoft Anti-Spyware to Be Free of Charge · · Score: 1

Giving it away free is good route to take, here's why...Those who need it get it for free (like a windows update), but those who don't need it (people who use firefox) don't have to run it. So it's like a windows update in that it's fixing something that Microsoft should be responsible for, yet it's not really required.

By the way if I use Linux and I use apt-get, how do I know that it does't install spyware in the background? I really don't know what all those additional packages do. It's no different than somebody installing Kazaa and just clicking on YES for everything. I trust that apt-get is getting the software I want and nothing else. I've never heard that issue discussed.

  18. Coming soon from Nintendo... on Family Guy Video Game in the Works · · Score: 0

  19. Realism? on More On PS3 and Xbox 2 · · Score: 4, Insightful

Sounds like everyone's goal is graphics realism and immersion. Isn't anybody trying innovate anymore? Thank God for Nintendo. You want immersion? You want to run...they gave you the power pad. You want to punch...they gave you the power glove. You want to shoot...they gave you the light gun. You want to play music...they gave you the Konga bongos. While Sony and Micsrosoft are trying to improve their graphics, Nintendo is actually immersing players in the game by innovating hardware...the only area left for innovation.

  20. Found things the others didn't... on Review of Microsoft's Anti-Spyware Tools · · Score: 2, Informative

I ran the current version of Spybot, then I ran the current version of AdAware (free version), and when I ran Microsoft Antispyware, it still found stuff to remove that the others didn't. That's proof enough for me. Of course I immediately uninstalled the MS Antispyware after running it, but that's besides the point. I would never let it run in the systray because if MS's reputation for bloat.

Now we're going to get a videogame identical to Madden in gameplay rather than a wholly original game which the AFL deserves. The AFL has really been doing well lately, so well that they had to create their own minor league, AF2. In cities without NFL teams (such as Orlando) the AFL has been very successfull.
