If I want to optimise for broken eggs, I just start at the first floor & keep dropping it until it breaks (hint: reuse the egg--it didn't break, dummy!) If it's for number of tries, do a binary search. If it's both, define weighting factors for both first.
But everyone (should) know by know that step two isn't shrouded in mystery--it's called Severe Audit. Read more posts for the details--it's already happened to quite a few people here and, unfortunately, it *does* lead to (short term) profits at the expense of the victim...
That's already (almost) been done--or was last time around. I remember reading how the 'right to virus' they asked for was voted down. If you want to kill this inane bill, just tell them how the MPAA wants to "hire hackers to terrorize anyone who might be guilty of copyright infringement and to not be held responsible for any computers they damage in doing so." Not quite 100% accurate, but most people don't know the difference between a virus & DDoS, so it's close enough.
If he was, do you expect someone named Dorothy to take them from him after her house lands on him? Never heard him called the 'wicked witch of the west', though, but if he's converted to Wicca...
They do go up for judicial review (you can vote 'against' them on the ballot--if enough people vote against them, they're removed). OTOH, they're supposed to be 'insulated' from politics, so there's almost no chance to stop them. Instead, try to get your state attrouney general to look into placing limits on what they can do with your CPNI.
Instead, they should probably hide their messages in recycled comments like this one...:) Use minor differences between them & you have a secret message.
Unfortunately, this one is identical & apparently a KW. *shrug*
Arrrrrh, matey, them pirates be the scourge of the radio waves. They've done scuttled many a station, leaving her crew to the briney deep. I've even heard tell that they plan to make a certain Ms. Spears walk the plank, but it's just gossip.
I thought that they (tried to) put such a clause on the license in old console video games, e.g. those for the NES. Of course, given the prevalence of rental stores, that just didn't work.
Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where they find out how much Skinner makes in a year & multiply it by his age to find out that he's a "millionaire."
That's *FAR* too cheap to be an Enterprise level solution. I think I'll offer my plan for $50M up front, $5M annually & support on a per incident basis at $500k + expenses (e.g. plane, hotel, etc.).
OTOH, part of it is already open source, so I can show it to you:
1) Open source everything. 2) [You have to pay to see this step.] 3) Profit!
Many people have suspected for YEARS that virus companies manufacture viruses to sell their products. I'm not saying they are, but this smells VERY fishy. I'd like some answers. >>>>>
Possibly, but not necessarily. You may notice that some of them put up big disclaimers mentioning that they do *NOT* hire [ex-]virus writers & don't allow them to be in contact with such groups. OTOH, here, they claimed that the author sent a copy to 14 of the biggest anti-virus companies. Go figure?
At least it wasn't Extra-sensory Resistance (ESR)... Though the thought of a psychic HD is a little disturbing... OTOH, it could probably do cacheing a lot better & maybe even improve download times by knowing what you wanted in advance...:]
4. Dude! Where's my karma???
But the boss will just make us work a day longer :(
Optimal in terms of broken eggs or tries or both?

Probably.

It's not his fault--blame the 10th Circuit Court.

This is slashdot, based on the statistics, I expect that this fellow wouldn't have to worry about breeding, anyhow...

The MPAA's anti-piracy hotline says it all:
1-800-NO COPYS
Pity they rarely seem to care what the copys are of or if they even own the rights thereof, so long as people aren't sharing them.
It's not complete until it gains the ability to send email, though.
In other news, sales of the Parker Brother's game, Monopoly, hit an all time high, with the largest shipments heading to Redmond, WA.

"But I wasn't working when I was 1!"
... and here, from that post, I thought you were just a KW :]
That's true--you *can* compile perl code... :]

What happens if P=0? You'd think we'd know by now, seeing as this *IS* /. ...
The customers will be very confused when they ask what "Cowboy Neal magnetoresistance" is, though... :]

C: All of the above.
Isn't that what they did to Napster? (Though, in the end, the only thing of value I can see that they had left was their name...)
Heh, Earthbound.... now there's something I want to see a sequel of :] It was very wierd, but very fun...
The fun part would be when I opened my window & stuck a large, pointy object into it, then watched them deflate :]
