But voting for third parties is a waste. The third party candidates will be corrupted by campaign finance the minute they get elected. Unless you're talking about a third party that only runs in-human robots for office. The root problem with US democracy is campaign finance. Until we deal with campaign finance (aka legalized bribery of elected officials), all the rest is re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
Voting for third parties is NOT a waste. The more parties the better. It means companies will have to corrupt more people. In fact, taken to it's logical conclusion, every person should be their own party (i.e., we should have NO PARTIES at all). Why can't we just elect an individual solely on what position that person has instead of us voting based on what group they are associated with? Must we always have to align ourselves with a group? Worse yet, limit ourselves to two rotten groups: Democrats and Democrat-lites?
Campaign finance reform is EXACTLY LIKE email spam control and is a waste of time. No matter how many campaign finance reforms you put in, large companies will ALWAYS FIND a way around it, and leave the legitimate contributors out in the cold.
Hey Obama, if you're going to go down the Hugo Chavez style socialism road, the at least for God sakes do it intelligently and do it right (personally, for the record, I'm still for capitalism, but the leader isn't on my side).
Why doesn't Obama declare a national emergency and then the Government simply buys out the fucking EV-1 production line, rehire all workers and engineers who developed it, buy out the oil/GM patent troll Cobasys line of NiMH battery patents and rebuild a proven 200 mi range EV-1 electric car? For God's sake, the charging stations are still sitting idle at our local Costco, ready to go...
Why the fuck are we shelling out billions to GM to build more Hummers and SUVs, while we can kill two or more birds with one stone and revive the EV-1 and end our reliance on oil. Let the oil companies get some other business model for profit...
For all you morons who say "duhhhhh, I don't see any oil execs in GM's boardroom", what the parent is referring to is GM's partnership with Chevron to license large scale NiMH battery technology way back in 2000 to effectively shut down all electric vehicle. Cobasys was basically a patent troll which sued Toyota over their electric RAV vehicle way back in 2002, plus preventing this same battery technology from letting the (then) EV-1 from getting a 200 mile range! If it weren't for the oil companies doing this blatent power grabbing anti-capitalist move, we might have been driving EV-1s by now. Even fucking TODAY people who want to retrofit Prius with extended range NiMH battery packs have to worry about "intellectual property" so those fucking oil companies are STILL inhibiting innovation in electric cars. Guess what these oil companies are doing with all the trillions of dollars they recently received from the recent $4/gal last year? Wonder if they're looking into Lion technology:-/
The irony of the timing of this post is incredible! Just a couple of hours ago, I was copying some family pictures from CD-Rs burned about 10 years ago, and only appx. 60% of the pictures could be copied over! The other 40% had CRC errors:-/
By the way, these CD-Rs were stored in a dark area (never any sunlight near them, in a So. Cal. climate (rarely humid), and I was expecting these to last a bit longer in this environment. I thought these CD-Rs had a decent chance of lasting a while. Guess I was wrong.
I learned the hard way I have to constantly store these files in parallel in multiple mediums (magnetic, optical) and I guess I will have to start a process of periodically burning new discs, whether I need to or not.
By the way, I could not believe this when I read it, but if Operation Downfall would have taken place, there were seven more nukes which were planned to be used during that operation. With Allied soldiers going in immediately afterward! What a nightmare that would have been!!! How many more Japanese civilians would have been killed between fighting the soldiers and the additional nukes?
Also, my dad would have been part of that operation, and if they didn't drop the bombs, I probably would not have been typing this right now...
If building solar panels resulted in an energy surplus, then why don't solar panel factories run on solar panels? Wouldn't that be a big marketing plus for them?
If you're going to build an infrastructure, how about this idea?
How about building an infrastructure which consists of two parts. (1) Have a large network of electrified rails which can transport (2) a new type of electric car which can either run on the street via batteries or use this new electrified rail for long distance "freeway" style movement? The vehicle could be something like this... but runs on electric and uses the power from the rails...
That way, the current battery issue for electric vehicles would be solved and this time we can design this infrastructure to prevent accidents with various technologies built in.
And another thing to consider: If ALL the democrats would have voted against this bill, it would not have passed. I can see all Repubs voting for it, but the Democrats who voted FOR it have a lot of 'splaining to do. Quit being a party man (or woman)...
After painfully watching the TV remake of The Andromeda Strain, I've given up hope for deep Sci-Fi movies as were made in the 1960's / 1970's. What will be interjected and hammered home into the script includes, but is not limited to (a) some theme about how we are destroying our natural resources (bonus points for global warming), (b) rights of various groups of people whether it has anything to do with the story line or not, (c) stereotypical casting of various characters, (c) HAVE to explain EVERY ASPECT of the plot instead of leaving it to the imagination of the viewers (since they now don't have any) to the point of the explanation being absurd (wormholes apparently solve all movie plot problems), (d) US Government is evil, all other foreign governments are great, (e) reporters will save us, (f) movie events have absolutely no correlation with real world science, military policy, or government policy. After the movie is made, go back and see how many movie elements I mention are in it.
1) There are different printer technologies than dye that last much longer. I have an Epson 2200 pigment based ink printer and have printed many images on canvas. These have been hanging on my wall for years, plural, with absolutely no fade. Yeah, you pay more for pigment, but if you want long lasting prints, you'll pay more. Newer pigment printers print glossy as well.
2) Epson (Claria) and HP (Vivera) inks are supposed to be longer lasting, but are insanely expensive. I have the R260 and the results are fantastic. Don't print much this way due to the insane expense (just for proofing or hanging on office wall).
3) I don't see what all the fuss is about. If I want a long lasting print, I simply send my image to print on this. Same photo technology as old photo technology mentioned in the article. Looks great on my wall! Costco, et. al. also has similar photo printing.
I generally don't print much on inkjet anymore, since the inks are so outrageously expensive. Photo print shops, such as Costco, have much longer lasting results cheaper than inkjet. I just print on my local inkjets either for (a) color proofing or (b) use fancy materials such as canvas.
From this article, the question Why are so many of the leaders of the energy revolution the same folks who led the dotcom boom? is precisely why we're getting all of these claims. I'll believe it when I can buy it. Until then, it's bullsh*t.
...the Clintons were selling the White House! While wholesale fraud of billions of dollars was occurring, there was dead silence here. Holy f**k Billy bob is STILLselling his presidency long after he left and people are pounding their keyboard over an $8 charge for a document in some out of the way place?!?!?! Wow, just wow.
Well, here comes the democratic shills and Clinton lovers to mod me down. Oh well, one can bring up the truth, and it hurts, but a lot of people just seem to put their fingers in their ears and yell LA LA LA CANT WAIT TO SEE A DEMOCRAT IN THE WHITE HOUSE LA LA LA regardless of getting the same results as Bush for the last eight years...
For anyone who wonders why a lot of military software projects (but not all) turn to crap, as the parent posters allude to, read War Upon The Map.
IMHO, This is the most insightful paper into the deep interworkings of DoD politics and how it influences software design. I've experienced this myself and what the parent posters say does not surprise me in the least.
Microsoft comes out with a "remote power management API" that allows PG&E to shut down your computer remotely when it feels it has to. Reasonable idea also? I don't know, it seems like ALL past efforts from various companies to do various versions of remotely controlling computers has led to Slashdot outrage, so why is this all of a sudden different?!?!?!
Also, don't these remote control features have the potential for abuse, as Slashdot also always likes to point out? All of a sudden, government has your best interest at heart? What gives here?
The reason they are manufacturing this in the SF Bay area is due to California making a deal with Tesla.

Actually, he should just act in person and use CGI for his governatorship duties. It would be better for California as well as himself...

Next time, get a fucking clue before you speak...
This just shows why a public broadband infrastructure down to the last mile is needed for a free (not just money) society.
Imagine when CNN, AP, and other news businesses start doing this. Imagine if various gov't agencies start doing this for revenue.
I don't know why Ford never came out with this model!

First chink?
Holy f**k, Obama is considering ex Time Warner CEO as sec. of commerce!!!!!
If that happens, Mr. Fox, here's the keys to the Internet chicken coop!!! Buh Buy to net neutrality!
Between that and this pick, will all the Slashdot Obama koolaid drinkers who thought he was supposedly pro-tech please stand up and be heard now!

Um, Fossil carbon contains virtually no C-14 since it decays radioactively Really? Seems like they found it in coal. Guess that blows all the assumptions that are based on this "fact" out of the water...

Well to be fair about it, Clinton isn't the only one who is selling the White House but they are the obvious top front runners for selling out.

when Ann Coulter endorses Hillary Clinton. If that isn't being transported to some parallel universe, I don't know what is...

Yes, between the corn producer lobby and the oil company lobby, we will never see a decent alternative energy policy in the US for the near future...
Obama is too young and inexperienced, just like John F. Kennedy?
No I am not saying Obama == JFK, but if people were OK with JKF's lack of experience, and see how that turned out, why is it an issue with Obama?
Besides, exactly enumerate where this vast reservoir of experience that Hillary has? Senator two terms? Wow I'm impressed.
