  1. Both adjectives wrong on Macaque Monkey Goes Totally Bipedal · · Score: 1

Neither "Darwinian" nor "Evolutionist" is in common usage as means of self-identification amongst us. "Evolutionary Biologist" is acceptable, though it does imply too much about qualifications.

Really, the idea of the environment being a sieve (i.e. evolution) is about as controversial as apple pie in scientific circles. Abstract debate is confined to the relative importance of gene flow vis-a-vis genetic drift vis-a-vis punctuated equilibrium et cetera.

    Also, this single case is:
    -not statistically valid
-only immediately relevant in the non-Mendelian Lamarckian Evolution
-not very relevant to genetic evolution

I haven't RAllTFArticles, but presumably the McNeil fellow argues that the learned meme of bipedalism introduced an environmental pressure that favoured pelvic and knee bones suited for bipedalism and thus caused an actual genetic change in the long run. That's a very tentative change of events and not one I have heard suggested before.

Myself, I an a strategy gaming addict.

Of course, the genre hasn't had a timeless classic in a while. This year's Warlords Battlecry III will show up on All Time Best lists, but it's really just a very polished version of 2002's Warlords Battlecry II that already had a safe place on those lists.

2001's Europa Universalis II hasn't been topped by its sequels so far -- Hearts of Iron was too narrow in scope and Victoria too hyper-realistically dull. I have high expectations of Crusader Kings

2002's Kohan is very nice. The upcoming sequel sounds promising.

Majesty was neat for the time, but I suspect it won't get the follow-up it deserves.

1998's Warlords III: Dark Lords Rising is still awesome, whereas Warlords IV was botched and is generally sucky.

1997's Total Annihilation is still the best RTS game of all time.

1999's Imperialism II and 1997's Imperialism are very different from each other and hold up moderately well.

    1994's Civilization II 0wnZ.

So does 1994's Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

I am not sure what year it's from, but Heroes of Might and Magic II is neat.

(I haven't tried Galactic Civilizations and Dominions II, but they are very highly thought of on Usenet.)

(Also, I don't think of any of the Age of Wonders or Disciples games as super-great, but they have followings.)

In the name of all that exists, please stop trying shoving metaphors onto the abstract beauty of computers.

    The following things are stupid:
    - disabling the backspace key because you couldn't easily erase things with typewriters
    - eliminating Undo, Redo, and Repeat because time travel is physically impossible
    - having www.airplanetickets.biz take two hours to load because it takes two hours to go to the physical ticket booth
    - making directory trees behave like physical drawers

Metaphors do not make things easier to use. If Jane-Six-Pack tosses an empty vodka can out of her armoured utility vehicle, she expects it to disappear. She does not expect it to stay where it landed until it decays in twenty million years.

If computer interfaces were just as tedious as real life, no one would bother with them.
