I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but definitely check out books by Gene Wolfe. Namely, Shadow & Claw and Sword & Citadel. Oh, and Urth of the New Sun too.
By 2880, I would hope we would have some miner drones attached to that baby draining it of whatever valuable minerals it may have. At least then it won't be so massive when it hits Earth . . .
I wouldn't want to try, but I think some UK scientists are trying to train dogs to do that(detect prostate cancer; not exactly in your ass, but close enough). Jay Leno's been mocking that all week. Go me, I get my health news from Jay Leno . . . wh00t
If you want to know what would likely happen to Sega if EA bought them/"merged" with them(ha ha), take a look at anyone other company that got absorbed by the EA behemoth. OSI/Origin comes to mind in particular, though Bullfrog suffered a horrible fate as well.
I estimate that Sega would add their sports expertise to the dev team in EA sports and the rest of the company would either fold or become a factory for Sonic games(and even then, not for very long).
So . . . maybe we should be sad that Sammy didn't merge with Sega or buy Sega.
My guess is that 3rd party apps won't be affected. Just a guess, mind you. Other than that, you may have problems with any software purchased from Microsoft(Office, etc). Also, I'm guessing that later generations of "pay per song" services that sell music for pennies per song will want to sell you music files that will only work on one computer and that will not be useable without DRM active on your machine.
The real question to ask is: "If I opt out, what software provided by my system's manufacturer(Gateway, Dell, etc) will cease to function?". That is, if you buy systems from companies like those. I'm not sure if anyone buying a system from an OEM will care about DRM, but oh well.
Both of these games raised interesting philosophical points. I think Torment was the more sophisticated game, but then, I played Ultima 4 when I was about 10 so whaddya want. Torment is probably the first and only CRPG that had what I would characterize a Buddhist bent to it. The torment of the Nameless One is almost a metaphor for the Buddhist view of the human experience. Almost.
I wish all those who convene to discuss law-enforcement and/or regulatory initiatives were so honest about their future prospects for success. Can you imagine what the DEA would be like if someone back in the 50s or 60s had actually gotten together and said "you know, guys, we'll never stop the flow of drugs into the country, and it's only going to get worse". On the other hand, that might have made the problem worse.
I still couldn't fault them for being honest, though.
It might be cool if you could stage your own AmTrak-style derailments.
Yeah yeah, mod me down if you want. I liked making dangerous rides in Rollercoaster Tycoon too. It's amazing how high you can fling coaster cars into the air with incomplete track . . . wheee

. . . which just tells me that either you didn't check the site I mentioned, or you disregarded all the information therein. If you and your neighbor are living next to some old coal-power plant or old incinerator, my condolences. Do please move. I was not attempting to suggest that widely-used fossil-fuel plants and incinerators were somehow desirable.

This would be so cool for Simon McKay from The Wizard!

fear. Anyone remember this show?
This robot is just a sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen.
"Hey, what do you think you're doing with that actuator?"
I'll bet Bill Clinton will want a few of these.
. . . the perfect fit for hip-hop artists and samplers like Puff Daddy/P-Diddy. That is, if anyone contributes anything of any worth *)
According to Freud, we use use our poo as currency(or rather a sublimation thereof).
The ZOMBIAC is nowhere near as cool as zombo.com!
Anything is possible at zombo.com!
The only limit is yourself!
The only good Xbox controller is the small version first sold to the Japanese market. The old "big" controllers were awful.
I agree that the Xbox games selection leaves something to be desired.
I doubt that most Americans could care less about World Telecommunication Day unless it gives them an excuse to stay home from work.
This was not intended to be a troll, I'm an American. This is how my co-workers think. Ya dig?
Funny, I thought it was a reference to Flash Man from Megaman/Rockman 2. Would you want your web server hit by the Flash Stopper? I think not!
Um, why would this patch interest anyone? The game has been screwed up ever since the 1.06 patch.
They make better projectile launchers. Amaze your friends as you fling high-velocity cds into their skulls! Marvel at the hospital bills!

I keep wondering if their experiments will be complicated by random encounters with umber hulks in the mines . . .

Would these things fit in under the "Entertainment" category? I'd have to nominate the Chiabot just for style alone.
