  1. Maybe they should call back.... on Microsoft's new CLI · · Score: -1, Redundant

  2. Now would be the time to approach Google... on Google Considering Merger With Microsoft · · Score: 1

After all, Google is kicking everyone's ass eight ways to Sunday being a private funded entity. Imagine what they could do if they were flush with cash from an offering. Given how HUGE Google is now and the sheer number of servers there is not only a high cost of entry to match them but also a lot to dedicate in terms of resources to bring yourself to their level in terms of code, etc. As we all know MS has lusted after Google and even had/has dreams of building a competitor. Plus they have billions in dollars just laying around anyway. It would be one hell of a coup if they can pull it off and a tragedy of untold proportions for the surfing public because what makes Google so special is it's culture. The problem with Google and MS is that the cultures are SO profoundly different that Google would go straight to hell if MS succeeded. As you know you can't put a price on the culture. Look at Apple.

Imagine all the space Blockbuster would save. Rent movies on a flash drive, go home plug it into your home entertainment center or PC and watch the flicks. Probably save Netflix a ton of money on shipping too. Or, just go to Blockbuster with your own 4.2 gig thumb drives, plug into the USB 3 (this is the future ya know) port, download right there. Movie somehow self destructs and no need to return it.
Of course the MPAA would find some way to relate all of this to the Boston Strangler I'm sure.

In 2002 he received almost $25,000

Howard Berman received a little over $4,000 from the TV/Music/Music lobbies in 2004
In 2002 he received almost (can you believe this?) $223,000!

John Conyers received almost $5,000 from the TV/Music/Music lobbies in 2004

  10. What are you worried about? on Adobe Makes Products Harder to Use, More Expensive · · Score: 1

The Word processor went about as far as it was going to go a few versions back. Every new version is just adding features that MOST users don't even use.

Of course if you're M$ and have a monopoly you can just say we're not supporting this anymore and you have to buy the new OS.When things fuck up as bad as M$ this is an issue because of all the time you need tech support. I have found PS to be pretty stable.

As far as the graphic editor going about as far as most users need, Photoshop is pretty much already there. Feathering graphic selections over multiple layers (now I'm just making shit up) is something that 99% of your users will never use.

The people this affects REALLY are the dedicated Adobe people who live and breathe this stuff and maybe they make enough money to justify Adobe's price.

The rest if us will just have to use Paint Shop Pro, GIMP or wait for a crack.

In the chapter "My Contact," Firmage writes that in the white-hot weeks leading up to USWeb's IPO, a year ago, he was awakened by his alarm at 6:10am one morning but then he decided to hit the snooze instead of going to the gym.

"A remarkable being, clothed in brilliant white light, appeared hovering over my bed in my room," he writes. "Out of him emerged an electric blue sphere, just smaller than a basketball, which was swirling with what looks like electrical arcs. It left his body, floated down, and entered me."

Firmage soon founded the International Space Sciences Organization with $3 million of his own money to administer a project he called "Kairos," a Greek word meaning "the right moment" or "a critical time." Firmage believes we live in a "kairos" in which humanity is finally advanced enough to comprehend alien beings.
