  1. Illogical Buttons, too on Something to Sidetalk About · · Score: 1

I think that if they want a portable game machine to be successful, they need to do some thing about the button configuration on the N-Gage. Having the games' controls right in the middle of the number pad is very confusing to me. When I tried it at my cellular store, I had to keep looking at the number pad to make sure that I was hitting the right buttons.

My solution would be to make the buttons more like that of a traditional portable system: only 4-6 buttons arranged like you could find on a regular game pad. Then, make the screen itself touch-sensitive and use that to display the number pad when you need to make a call. Problem solved for me and not to mention other avenues of development opened up with a touch screen (add a stylus and you could have a decent PDA, too)

  2. Demand on Price Drops For Mac mini Upgrades · · Score: 1

It's possible that due to the shear number of orders and demand for the Mini, Apple can capitalize on it to get better prices from their suppliers and therefore lower costs for them and pass it on to the customer.

  3. Re:Take the long view on N-Gage No Longer Relevant · · Score: 1

Everyone knows that people play games on their mobile phones. Only thing is that n-gage can play much better games.

I could care less if my phone plays games. I care far more about using it to make phone calls. The only extra utility that I use on my current phone is the built-in calculator.

I have lots of pockets and a Gameboy SP serves me quite well if I ever feel the need to play games on the go with the added benefit of actual good games and smaller price tag.

Nokia is going to pull through on this one.

Doubtful since Nokia just let a bunch of their N-Gage staff go. A smart company trims the fat when it becomes unprofitable for too long.

It's about time someone thought of doing something like this. Heck, if it catches on, you could probably set this up as a vending type of machine. Imagine going down to the "Quick-E-Mart" at 3AM andpurchasing a copy of an imaging program to help work on the report due first thing in the morning.

Of course, I think that there needs to be some valid way to register or prove that you actually did purchase this software since something like this may cause more piracy and/or fraud.

And what exactly would change in your "cool, esoteric, artsy operating system" if more people decided to use it? It's your kind of thinking that turns more people away from Macs than you know.

Did I have to buy a Mac for the work that I do? Yes. Did my friend have to buy one for his type of work? No, but he did anyways. Why? Because he found that he enjoyed OS X more than 2000/XP. He still gets his work done and has a more pleasurable working experience for himself at the same time.

What on Earth is keeping Apple and/or other vendors from offering trade-in incentives? Why can I not trade in my two boxed Photoshop-for-PC copies and receive Photoshop 7 for Mac OS X?

Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't you be taking that up with your respective software companies and not with Apple? You already own the license to these pieces of software so I would think that most software venders wouldn't have a problem with you purchasing an upgrade/cross-grade for Mac for the price of an upgrade. It costs the same to you no matter which version you purchase and all they really care about is you buying your upgrade from them. Call/write your software venders and see what they would do for you. They would rather keep you as a loyal customer rather than lose you.

Just take a look at what Apple did for USB. Bluetooth is still in it's early stages of adoption and is getting some pretty big name supporters to back it up. Just think about it, not many were using USB when it was first introduced until Apple lit a fire under it's ass. Personally, this is some technology that I could really use myself, and with Apple behind it now in a major way it could grow to proportions to where, yes, even you Mr. AC couldn't think of what you did when you didn't have it.
