If I copied a site like slashdot called slashdot2, copied all of the articles from slashdot, and got users and people to read it and added some advertisements, would you tell slashdot to get another "business model"? After all, noting of value was taken..only copied. This should be fine in the digital age..right?
It's ironic that you say that, because Slashdot runs on free software and the scenario you're describing would be perfectly legal and ethical. Feel free to get all the Slashdot source code, fork the site to "Slashdot 2" and use Slashdot's RSS feed to populate it with stories.
Despite anyone's ability to freely copy its content Slashdot still manages to make money. Maybe you could learn something.
The biggest concern seems to be finding the glitches in the system instead of reconsidering automated arms altogether.
As with most automated technologies it will make some mistakes, but less than a human on average. The friendly fire rate for most militaries is no where near perfect.
Many are concerned that if Blizzard takes too long to act, the in-game economy will be irreparably damaged.
I have a level 60 human paladin in WoW. I farmed gold for about a week to pay for my epic mount and since then I've been running instances with a guild to get all the best bind on pickup gear. At this point I see no point at all in collecting or having gold. My repair costs are covered by gold picked up in instances, I get free enchanting done by the guild enchanter using materials gathered from useless bind on pickup items.
I believe that gold has no value at endgame, and therefore farmers will not ruin the experience of anyone. If someone wants to pay $10 to get their level 40 mount a few days early, or $100 to get their level 60 mount a few weeks early, that dosn't bother me because these are small parts of the game. I'm sure that farmers will always be able to make a profit selling gold for mounts but since it dosn't have much affect on endgame, they arn't really hurting anybody.
I didn't pay for Starcraft, and me and my friends used BNetD to play it for years. I'm not saying Blizzard was right to kill the project, but maybe they had their reasons.
This form of moderation is censorship. If the default level was -1, and people got sick of reading trolls they would figure out how to change it, similar to the DNC list. The way it is now, slashdot defaults new users to 1, so they never see any comments below that unless they activly work for it. Isn't this the same situation as Netscape vs IE? Sure the freedom is there, but when you give someone an easy default, 90% of them are never going to switch.
Bill Gates owns less than 15% of Microsoft stock. But since this is the highest amount (Steve Jobs being #2 with 5%) he is able to keep control of the company. I don't know where you got your information.
Guess what? It's impossible for Americans to get work visas in India.
I don't think that's the point. If you want to start a company here creating software for 10 times less that your American competitors, no one is going to stop you and you'll probably get lots of work. The point is that you probably wouldn't do that, and your angry that Indian workers can live comfortably getting paid 10 times less you. If you're really serious about this you could probably find ways to cut your living expenses to the point where it would be feasable to produce code for a very low cost.
I think he was referring to the high rates that credit cards offer anyone who wants a loan. So if you don't mind paying 20%+ per year then go our and get a couple hundred credit cards (not that hard) and buy whatever you want.
Its ironic that people who have the motivation and ambition to earn $20 million will probably not stop there, but people who would stop at $20 million will never earn that much.
But 99% of them would ever use unix outside of school and that time would be wasted. You might as well have in class on memorizing digits of pi, that would be equally practical.
and there i was thinking that a university was for LEARNING not goofing off downloading as much illegal mp3's and warez as you can cram down their connection
I totally agree with this. In my case, I go see any movie worth seeing with my friends. If a movie comes out which I have a vague interest in but would never actually pay for I'll download it and watch it. I'm sure a lot of people are like this, the bad movies arn't going to get our money either way.

With immersive, colorful levels
I don't know about colorful, I seem to remember a lot of grey and brown...
I can't believe you made that website. You may just be the biggest loser I've ever encountered on slashdot, I salute you.
I've been getting movie dowloads from this site for months. Oh, and its free.
Yes, all you need to do is get a valid CD key, then change it. Follow the instructions here.
If you want to change your XP cd key you can easily do it without a program.
Follow the instuctions here.

Most people using p2p apps like bit torrent download the full 4 GB DVD rips. In that case the quality is equal to the original product.
You must not download many pirated goods. I've got 500 GB worth of data and I'm going to have to get a new hard drive soon.
That you need more than one button on your mouse.
You must be a fun opponent in Warcraft 3 (or any other game).

You're free to not buy or listen to the music they control, why do you care what they do?

Most of the price goes to the retail channel which multiplies the price several times before putting on the shelf.
If that is true than why is it that the creators charge exactly the same price to buy directly from them as retailers?
You're an idiot.

You clearly havn't been to a university recently.
Windows is not evil, just crappy.
You just keep telling yourself that as you play yet another game of Tux Racer.

I personally find bit torrent to be great, not that I download that kind of stuff...
