Add https access. I'd pay for that. Hell, youcan roll-your-won SSL certificate for free and not have any costs (aside from a slight increase in bandwidth).
Add a "business" section. This would give you some value and make you a more sellable asset, at least in the eyes of the suits.

Twice a year, have a story for people's complaints/suggestions wrt to slashdot. read the comments.
It's 2003. Slashdot should be using xhtml with css, and drop the kludgy tables for handling comment layouts. css also makes it easier for knowledgable slashdot readers (An oxymoron?) to customize the layout to their own liking.
