I haven't read this article, but for the most part BPL is for solving the last-mile problem. An optical carrier would connect a neighborhood to the central network, with the power lines linking each house to the fiber optic transmission line.
Clemson has required students in the College of Engineering and Science (and more recently some business schools, etc.) to have laptops since my freshman year (2003).
The majority of my professors have it listed in their syllabus that they do not allow laptops during their class. We also have several laptop classes such as a math class that uses Maple, but outside of that laptops are not allowed.
I would guess the reign over students derives from the military school heritage of the university.
- As mentioned, cross-platform.
- Security holes aren't left open for months.
- Beginning to be much faster than IE.
- Mozilla team has something to work for. They desire to be the best browser. IE is complacent and therefore goes un-updated for months at a time.
I don't know how much of a security risk it is, but I would imagine that a daemon with complete control over the system being used for web browsing would pose a major fundamental risk. A flaw in Mozilla might allow for your favorites to be deleted, but a flaw in IE can give complete control of the system to the attacker.
I think not. A regular over at TribalWar has started his own LAN center and bought copies of retail CS for each machine. After installing and running the operation as usual for quite some time he got a notice from valve saying he would have to pay a rate PER machine for ALL of valve software.
This does not change that the LAN centers are still having to pay 300% more for Valve software over competing software. The rate is per machine and PER month. Where it was only a grand or two for Ut2k4 one-time fee, CS was $30k a year.
If Valve wants gamers happy, they have to make LAN centers happy. Now this is ridiculous that they expect people to shell out for a beta, and at the same time pay for every other piece of yea ever written.

And this was actually done that long ago. I remember seeing the pictures of this custom casing setup a long time ago. Of course the person who submitted this article surely knew that.
This same approach was leading me to go register for free mail on Yahoo! now. I used to be a fan of Google but now the search results are so inaccurate it's not even funny. Regardless of all the FFA's now fooling search engines as a method of gaining more search popularity, searches on google turn up mostly sponsored ads and those ebay links pages something like/what_you_searched_for.htm. Google has become a 'pop' search engine and gets by with sucking so hard. I plan on going against the grain here and using Yahoo! from now on.
For the longest time you could type 'google $searchString' and 'dict $word' where $searchString and $word were what you were trying to find, into the address bar. I liked the feature and started to rely on it. It has been in all the nightly builds except the most recent one. Downloading now, hoping it's back.
Note: I found out the reason why and if you don't trash your default bookmarks you will be able to do it. See http://devedge.netscape.com/viewsource/2002/bookma rks/. There is a google bookmark that has a keyword that allows you to search by typing 'google' in the address bar.
concentrate on getting MIME data identified first. The entire operating system relies on ".JPG" to find pictures to begin with. Internet Explorer has no clue what to do with a file unless it has a "proper" extension.
but total weight including everything required to transform the power, etc. is 4.9lbs. so where usual batteries weigh 1 lbs. +/- 2 this one would weigh 5... so the ultrathin 4lbs. laptop weighs 9lbs.

The wine project may have achieved many milestones, but Microsoft can snap it any time. All they need to do, is to change thier APIs and making them incompatible.
True, but they would also "snap" the compatiblity for every previous Windows application. I would love for them to do this, however, as it would mean every Windows customer changing from the proprietary environment.
The more simple a solution the more likely it is to work. Linux running in terminal with some simple application would be much more stable than Windows, not to troll. Now if X, etc. is involved just use Windows. However, in my chem class we use Windows with LoggerPro, and in any given lab we are lucky to have 2 of the 8 computers working correctly due to random Windows glitches.
Solaris hardware? Don't let your lack of knowledge stop you from making a post.. You mean Sun hardware and software? Solaris is under this category although Solaris hardware is a bit fallacious...
Bullet trains provide 60fps action... due to advanced techniques from nvidia... well, actually not but am i right in thinking that the ads are outside of the train?
Apparently the problems with synching using Intellisync are in that software itself. The harrasment is also experienced by Sony Clie users, so I would assume all other PDAs using it.
Lets see, drove 10 over and braked suddenly too much. Did not have the air conditioning on. If anything, a collection of these black box tapes could prove to be a good training program for playas, and use it for future lady advice.
Or if we could run linux on them we could use them as MP3 players...

I'd imagine they will call it either iPod AV, and the new airport express will be called Airport Express HD...
It would fit with iChat AV and iMovie HD....

I post my older version of Photoshop and older inkjet printer on eBay? I'm sure it will be pretty valuable once all the other products are crippled.

Vulnerable is vulnerable. If banks can be robbed by inside employees should it not be considered a risk/a vulnerability?
Well, the article says 'well-under 1Mbps', but the calculations give you a ceiling I suppose.
