  1. And Somewhere John Adams is weeping for Boston on Aqua Teen Art 'Terrorist' Describes His Ordeal · · Score: 3, Insightful

Educational standards and common sense standards for police and elected officials in Boston certainly have fallen since Revolutionary War times when John Adams and others in Massachusetts led the way for Independence and for the rights of man in society. Now Boston is known for ignorance, thuggery, incompetence and a place willing to take the rights of humans away for the false security afforded by uniformed idiots with their self presented jangling medals and uniform bling while they all whore their way in front of cameras at the least provocation to strut and self congratulate each other about how well they are doing. Boston is a joke and an embarrassment. That's my two cents.

I haven't even bothered looking to see if there is a 'crack' to make it work without making your computer a Steam Valve slave. No sale to me.

My opinion is that I like the original version, not the directors cut, the second directors version, the laser disk version, the version without the narration, the version released only in Nambia, the version released to the airlines, the tv version or any of that. Does that make me an idiot because my opinion differs from your self described superior opinion? Calling people illiterate or otherwise belittling their opinions to prove how smart you are or how superior you believe your own opinion to be is just sad. It's a movie, buy the super deluxe version and pull it off your shelf every once in a while and lecture your cat about how your opinion is better than anyone else's opinion. I'm sure the cat will be impressed.

'Here's the thing' - if by 'key answers' you mean like the little Walls of Jericho story and you know, walking around it three times, the walls come down and the soldiers go in with the orders to kill every man, woman, child and animal in the place, I guess your 'key answer' there would be genocide is the way. You can get better and more rational 'key answers' to life from an episode of the Sopranos. So get off your high horse there. And as you find it amusing that some atheists spend time and effort trying to use logic and reasoning to help people who display irrational believes in an invisible man in the sky, it's that human idea of hope for others. Many atheists, many of them right next to you in Church, know you can't reason with insanity and don't bother. We realize that no matter how many mysteries of the mind are answered by science it can't overcome the basic irrationality of religion. The article looks at yet another bit of the 'mystery' and provides an explanation. Science marches on.

There are plenty of options available to you if you don't like the way a store choses to enforce it's security policies. I won't walk into a Guitar Center because of their ignorant and over the top 'security check' at the door. Go to Sam's they check your receipt, go to Best Buy and they check your receipt. Those last two places have been polite about it. I get it - people steal stuff and some of that theft if actually through the cash registers so to stay in business some businesses decide to have receipt checkers. When they are obnoxious like at Guitar Center I complain to the manager and never shop there again. I don't go cause a scene at the door while I'm with family members, involve the police and act like a complete ass as this guy did. Like the 'Don't taser me Bro' guy, this guy knew he was causing trouble and decided to push it until he was arrested. Good, and I'm glad it cost him some money, perhaps this clown will find better ways to 'fight the man' if he wants.

Russian trance, jpop, cpop, kpop, European pop, 80's, 90's and just stuff I wouldn't have ever heard of. I'm learning guitar faster with lazyfret on youtube and there is also interesting anime and much more available. Who knew they even made videos any longer, who knew that Dolores O'Riordan from the Cranberries had a new album out and it sounds great. These services are reconnecting folks with the parts of culture they've disconnected from because of fragmentation and balkanization of interests combined with the lowest common denominator you find every cable network passing through so you get to where MTV and VH1 don't do music any longer. Long live Rick Astley!

It's also obvious to me that this guys is a dick. He sought confrontation and found it. The store has a legitimate interest in preventing theft either from shoplifting or employee assisted theft - i.e. the cashier in cahoots with the customer. If he found it too obnoxious, as I find the 'loss prevention efforts' at Guitar Center to be overboard, then don't shop there any longer and complain. Which is what I did there. I read this guys blog over this and he comes across to me as an absolute prick. Just a complete ass without a thought for any other human being but himself. He had people with him and he decided to initiate this confrontation. The guy fits some of the profile of someone who would shoplift, just by his arrogant attitude and his 'I'm the only person in the world' attitude which comes through in his words and his actions.

Tell me again why I want that? Tell me Microsoft why DirectX 10 is so much more special? I see the side by side comparisons and I don't see much difference, certainly not worth me busting everything I own now and investing in something with no real tangible difference. I hear the FUD, the hear the huckster Microsoft cheerleaders saying how great it is but this is the internet and the voices of everyone else are heard loud and clear so the lying isn't being believed. 8 Percent using it? Sounds on the high side to me. It's just a matter of how long until Microsoft admits they've created a loser and perhaps we can get to real innovation. Well, to analyze my own satire there let me say that I've heard various Global Warming advocates say that those who deny global warming are like holocaust deniers and should be treated as such. You might or might not remember that the bastion of civil liberties (Europe) did in fact put the historian David Irving in jail for writings suggested the holocaust didn't happen. David Irving is of course disagreed with by other historians but when disagreement becomes a jail sentence that's the end of free speech and free discussion. It's a matter of having the proper opinion or face jail. This is the attitude taken by a number of those people who Believe in man made global warming. One of the Kennedy clan, a congressman, said that those who denied global warming are like traitors. Traitors are traditionally shot you know. This is the rhetoric I was writing on. The number of replies in this thread shows that people have strong feelings on the matter. And some of them are extreme in their beliefs and in what should be done with people who don't share their beliefs. And it is a belief. When you move from a review of the facts and into name calling you are dealing with beliefs. Facts be damned, incomplete and inaccurate facts be damned. On the other side you have the black helicopter people and the world government is coming people who say that the whole thing is just an attempt to have the UN take over the United States or variations on that theme. Fruitcakes and nutcakes on both sides. Facts and science go out the window, every new study, new theory and new fact set comes with an agenda, a point of view and a built in set of attackers. Not science, the clash of belief structures. The last bits about it being George Bush's fault and America's fault are also themes of many people from the Church of Global Warming. Bush didn't sign the Kyoto Accords is one theme frequently mentioned as a reason for the world going to hell in a hand basket. That Japan isn't going to meet it's quota or that China and India aren't even required to do anything even though their economies are getting huge and their pollution is massive - not so much. And that's about it.

If there are facts which cause doubt about the truth of global warming then those facts must be suppressed. It is for the good of all. Oh, and it's all George Bush's fault I've been told. Folks on YouTube are showing me generally how to play "Hey There Delilah-Plain White T's" which is a fairly new song. Seeing this story reminded me of hearing that Plain White T's song last night and thinking that it sounds pretty easy to figure out. And I had never heard it before and it's a great song. I searched for it on YouTube and a whole lot of folks are there with their guitars puzzling the song out. When I was taking guitar lessons I'd bring the cd or a copy of the song and my teacher would puzzle out a song with me. Actually for me since he was really a great player and teacher and could listen to a song and pull it out, like these folks on YouTube do. By the way YouTube user jnye078 rocks in explaining that song. And the guy whose videos we're talking about are still on YouTube but might not be in a while. He very clearly showed me how to play a Counting Crows song, Mr. Jones - I've the CD and the sheet music for it. And since the RIAA might be running to stomp all these guys I've downloaded all of the lessons. (a simple youtube grabber found on download.com) Now if Justin Sander Coe was selling these versions of copyrighted songs then the copyright owner would be justified to stop him. This guy is coming out with a Blues DVD which if it's as conversational and cool as the other videos I've seen so far I'd be happy to buy. These folks aren't hurting anyone, they're helping create music fans by being enthusiastic and in love with music and aren't making money that the RIAA might otherwise get. So, I'm on topic but not clearly spelled out.

And the cigarette and liquor ads were more than one Head On and One Axe Body spray ad campaign, they were everywhere and they all in various ways told you you were cool and hip if you used the products. And as for information no longer being censored, I think that the warning labels on cigarettes were on the side for a long time before the commercials went off. I think. An American company that earns it's money in America and then goes on to say that the United States makes it hard to employ lower cost workers from other countries and then whines about it being unable to pay American workers less doesn't deserve a lot of sympathy. And when you parrot that 'Global Economy' propaganda you're merely helping to pass on that big lie. The American government needs to tighten the foreign workers visas because they are being used to kill off the jobs of higher paid American workers. And big companies have a tendency towards doing evil to their employees when government doesn't look out for the workers. Whether it's 19 Century Mining companies that would charge their employees a dollar a day for the use of the tools and pay them 90 cents or it's Microsoft outsourcing jobs from Americans so as to squeeze that last penny out for the shareholders.

Yes, but banning the images of pot and drug use do stop the idea that that drug use is approved of by the schools. And if not approved then tolerated. And toleration is a short stop to 'they don't care' if we use these drugs or not. Nobody expects that banning the depiction of drug use and drugs from popular culture will stop that drug use but it's a constant battle isn't it. MTV will blur out the same thing from videos and images on their network as well. Why? They know they aren't going to stop the use of drugs but they can decide to not be part of the problem, the problem of acceptance of illegal behavior in popular culture. As for the curtailing of cigarette and liquor advertisements, well you know smoking is down. Before the laws against advertising smoking was depicted as 'cool' and a sign of being grown up, sexy, masculine, etc. Same with hard liquor advertisements. Both type of products being sold to children and young people. No problems will be solved by banning pictures or advertisements but in many cases it's to the benefit of society that commercial speech is controlled.
