  1. PLEASE GOD NOOOOO!!!!! on Google Considering Merger With Microsoft · · Score: 3, Insightful

Right now, despite the Scientology dust up, I, for the most part, trust Google's results. And I admire the way there ad system works.

I doubt I could trust the results if Microsoft ran the show.

  2. Help out those who have been sued. on RIAA Threatens More Music-Lovers · · Score: 4, Informative

Downhillbattle.org, a music activism site, has set up a defense fund to help those who have been sued pay their legal bills. Slashdotters are always saying that more people should fight the suits, help out those who are.

I then closed the case and went to bed
You really shoudn't close the case of a modern laptop while it's running. Most of them have a air intake on top for the processor heat pipe. Also being closed doesn't let the heat radiate up & out of the case. When engineers design laptops, they don't really design cooling systems for them to be running at 100% cpu for hours on end when closed.

It will SUPPORT wma. Doesn't mean the iTunes store for Windows will be selling wma, which I find highly unlikely, since Apple's fancy mp3 player, DOESN'T SUPPORT wma, right now anyway.

It will be financially viable when everyone goes to your bar, instead of the Orwellian one next door. Which bar would you rather go to, the one with or without this system?

  8. Re:Not applicable here on Vancouver Bars Network Together to Track Patrons · · Score: 1
I don't think this will affect the Slashdot crowd much. I mean, who here has enough of a social life to have ever even *seen* the inside of a bar?

Dell against proprietary hardware? Since when. I have a dead Presicion 220 in my office because it needs a proprietary power supply. The new desktops have a power supply that runs across the bottom of the case. Dell has used a lot of proprietary hardware.

  17. Is this it? on RIAA To Sue Hundreds Of File Swappers · · Score: 2, Interesting

I've heard talk that once the RIAA starts suing the general public, that's when there will be a huge public complaint against them. So, what do my fellow Slashdotter's think, will this be another nail in the coffin of the music industry as we know it. Or will they succeed in scaring(sp?) people out of trading files?

  25. Why I think powerline will not take off on The NoCat Wireless Access Point/Night Light · · Score: 4, Interesting

I don't think powerline will take off. Here's why.

1)Price. I can get a wireless network of comperable or better speed cheaper. The powerline adapters are $80 and only do 14Mbps.

2)Late to market. Although they were promissed for years they just recently got good speeds (>1Mbps). I own an older home, I was considering this tech as an alternative to pulling wire( a huge pain in my house). But, 802.11b got to a resonable price to performance ratio first.

The only advantage I see to powerline is covering long distances in large buildings with no existing networking cabling. Does anyone else see a reason this tech would take off?
