The x-box refuses to play DVD's without the 'remote' (or 'DVD kit' as they call it) because the console, on itself, has no region decoding key. Here in mexico you can buy kits to play either region 1 (USA) or Region 4 (Latin Ame.) DVD's. Once you install either one of the kits the console locks to that region, like a regular RC2 DVD-ROM after 5 changes. This way MS can manufacture identical consoles for multiregion markets and regionalize with the kits.
..Don't even get me started on the amount of locking it does, or the amount of network traffic it generates.
Remember that he stores all those access 'databases' in a samba share. Rigth now, moving and locking entire tables ocurs for every god damed query, network traffic can't get worse than that... well maybe moving the entire database for every query could be a little worse.

You are still using the wheel arent you?
Don't overthink it, this is on slashdot on a slasdot's-staf-liked-spireted-away basis. I don't dig the oscars either (the post remind me that the oscars were on) but it's nice when most academy members agree with your taste.
By the way, Chicago being 'best movie' over TTT??!!!, the oscars sucks!
Nobody said music games are dying, the AC used DDR as a counterexample for the dying puzzle genere. And I agree, DDR is not a puzzle but a rhythm game, a category on itself.
..And all were designed individually, but didnt it make the battle look realistic.
So, In how many orc vs humans+elves batles have you been involved lately?
It shold be very hard to realisticaly represent a batle in the realm of fantasy , Why don't you enligth us?
I think this frames are for real. I live in Mexico and I used to buy bootleg VCD's (you can get some titles on VCD two months before they hit the theaters, now I can't withstand the low quality). This VCDs use to come with extremely poor-translated spanish subtitles.
The guys that made them transcribe character names and words that they don't understand as they hear them. I had read many 'engrish' subtitles before, but TTT ones are gold!
This must be a realy slow day, I would have expected an slashdoted vorbis site and what i found? just 200 signatures!
I know the/. comunity can bring more heat than that.
Last time I checked electrons traveled at the same speed on the same medium, always.
We are making clocks that switch between conducting and not-conducting states faster but I don't think that electron's civil rigths defenders shold be woried about that.
10 gogolplexes invested on that bussines model? then it should work! With that hard cash they could even build the recicled paper computer before us!
Uh yea.. my e-comerce site wold be very secure and cost-efective if we run all database "querys" against an IBM ubercomputer located on their facilties, and we wold save on electricity bills too!!
Why should my egineers need bad-ass cad workstations for? IBM would lease me a share of big-blue for those "render" stuffs, it's a win-win partnership!
I was reading the parent very seriusly until.. Air attack is the weakness of a tank, especially when in siege mode. Keep Goliaths on hand to defend against air attack. They are cheaper than a flying force.
lol!!! and it even has a seris chid post moderated as +2! Nobody else catch the starcraft joke?
C'mon, this is very funny, mod the parent up!
I remember a french comic named "proteo" where a green-java-like alien observing the earth space race substracted laika from the vesel and adopted her as a mascot. Even as a little kid i knew it was just fantasy but I always want it to be true.
RIP laika
I know what you mean.
A few weeks ago 2 coworkers an I where installing the lastest version of our ERP in a w2k cluster. Beliveit or not, on the "3th party software checklist" a fully patched (an licensed ofcourse) copy of Office w2k/xp was required just for a few excel reports.
That put us 3 days behind schedule because our PHB didn't what to proceed without the actual office license!
Funny, but that url is invalid because of the second "?" (it should be a "&").
I asume that the space in "Ge tDoc.aspx" is a result of the previusly mentionated long word separator script. I've read a lot of complains about that "bug", when are the slashcode maintainers going to disable that for url's?
I think many people is missing the point here. There is nothing new in the opinions of this artist, it's a rant a regular/.er read 10 times a week. What is relevant here is that this was published on USA TODAY.
Do you know how many non-/.ers read this?
like the free, full version of "America's Army" included in November edition of PC GAMER (out like a week ago)?
(I know this game has been dowloadable for a while, but c'mon, 230MB mean just for broad band users, now it's practicaly for every body)
The poster didn't say a thing about french men. It just critcizes the french technology
are you french? I can't think in another reson for you to jump so fast to defend the frenchmen honor.
Bah! It's only a promo for the next lord of the rings movie.

The "9.65 square kilometres" is your standar unit, americans, brits and ausies are the only ones not using the metric system.
slashdot is my home page, i just started mozilla to do something productive and slasdot was there, it's not my fault really.

Carmack realy knows how to program those things!
...Paul Allen is not being friendly to Microsoft at all here, because this product is also a direct competitor to Microsoft's Ultimate TV product.
As the first reply said, UltimateTV is dead. But you have a point, Paul Allen is not being friendly to Microsoft by using Linux.
Too bat this fella owns only 20% of Microsoft, wold he owns 51%....

Yea, you don't even need an slasdot efect to crash this site. A mean look can do the job!
