    And of course Microsoft's notorious "Mac to Windows" switcher website was the one the took the cake. What took them down was using a stock photo... Sheesh!

    I mean, really. How hard is it to find ONE photogenic woman in a company the size of Microsoft? Hell, Apple used a LOT of folks in their ads... And they didn't look like models either (nor did their words sound like PR text).

    Yup, look to a LOT of "Longhorn allows me to do things the way that make me more productive" blah blah blah...

    And quite another to be charging advertisers.

    Let's face it, these are not Uncle Joe blogging about a rumor, these are folks making a buck off someone breaking a confidential agreement. Even bona fide journalists go to jail when they break the law or encourage someone to break the law to get a story.

    I don't like NDA's, but the reality is they are legal and binding agreements. And breaking an NDA to get a 10-20 jump on an announcement is, in my view, rather stupid.

    Where to start in your ignorance about WWII and the rest of humanity.

    1. WWII would have never had happened had what became the Allies said "Ah, let Hitler take Poland... then he will be happy".
    2. Iraqi's currently do not have a working government. They are an occupied country. 1/3 of their population is currently not represented.
    3. Lebanon IS a Republic -- just like the United Stated (CIA World Fact Book). They have an executive, legislative and judicial branch. I would go on, but it would just show your ignorance.
    3a. Using the same example, wouldn't Iraq be a Democracy if the U.S. would leave? Or do you just have no effing clue what you talk about?
    4. Libya, during Clinton, received a LOT of pressure, including economic. They didn't decide one day "hey, I'll just give up WMD's"... we didn't know they HAD WMD's.
    5. Most countries in the world have had terrorists groups attack them. It has only been of late that we have had terrorist groups NOT BORN IN THE US attack within the U.S. Or had you forgotten the whole Oklahoma bombing?
    6. Weapons were designed to kill. As the son of an Episcopal priest (who also was a survivor of Oklahoma City bombing), I have yet to find anything in the Bible where Jesus promotes killing as a way to peace. But apparently my Bible is out of date.
    7. "Better targetted kills" - Funny, but this is STILL the death of someone without judge or jury, merely executioner. Or have we decided that is all we need?
    8. Weapons, including smart bombs, have never decreased the loss of civilian life. Examination of smart bombs by the D.o.D. after the first Gulf War indicated, to many peoples surprise, that they were no better than dumb bombs.
    9. The idea of anyone's death disturbs my sleep.

    11. Saddam was never a Hitler. Hitler took over a fair share of Europe. Saddam attacked Iran (which we assisted -- we didn't like Iran at the time) and Kuwait (which we gave the nod to and then immediately turned and screamed it was wrong). These are documented.

    NOW, put down the PS 2 and pick up a book. You might learn a few things.

    My point is that it shouldn't be surprising when a progressive, open technology like Linux is used by the military. They have some smart folks working for them. Sometimes good things come of it.

    If you mean good by "creating ways to kill people" -- then no, it is not good.

    As my wife was saying the other day, with every discovery there is the question "can we kill someone with it".

    Good would be if we could learn to stop asking that question.

    Under the uniform commercial code, offer + acceptance + lawful consideration + competent parties = binding contract. Well, I would argue that it was closer to a letter of intent as the last I checked money was NOT a substitute for a signature. For example, when I buy music I do NOT sign a document (nor is there one that is signed) that prohibits me from sharing said music. What I CAN get in trouble with is violating U.S. Copyright. That is far different than a contractual agreement. The only aspect of "binding" is that they can drop my domain if I don't pay. Whether it is transitory as a CRT or verbal, until it is on paper, it isn't worth the paper it is written on. That's what MY attouney's tell me.

    When they STARTED the report:

    1998: The iMac is introduced. I go ho-hum, my wife goes "I WANT ONE!" Steve Jobs is proclaimed to be next to God in design and everyone starts knocking off iMac colors.

    Today: iPod is what is hip. It is expected to exceed Mac in the next year or so. Steve Jobs is proclaimed to be reviving the music industry (which thinks it is God).

    So I wonder how current the info is in the report?

    Consider a USB NIC. I wouldn't want to rely on one for anything mission-critical, but for home use it should be fine.

    Do you know of one that works? The one that I have at the house doesn't.

    it's a bloody expensive embedded system - most of these are $1-200, not $500. The popular ones are $100 (Rabbit, Arm, AVR, PIC)

    Yup. I've done all of them but AVR. Different type of embedded.

    For example, for $250 we have a Geode running at 233 Mhz. For similar footprint (and faster clock) we are talking in the $500 range or more.

    Rabbit runs like a pig compared Mac.
