the government gives billions and billions in tax breaks to extremely rich companies that don't need it, but anytime their is some perceived tax breaks for families they go out of their way to squeeze the nickel out of those who are the least able to afford it.
brick and mortar stores are pushing for the internet tax, but no one is going back to them that buys online. I can click a few buttons and they bring it right to my house or go deal with clueless sales people and bad service. No contest.
If I want to actually watch and enjoy a movie I watch it in 2d so I avoid anything that says 3d. I don't know anyone that actually enjoys 3d except for the initial novelty that has worn off since Jaws 3D.
people are not jumping ship on oracle MySQL as oracle has not upset the boat to much yet. There are starting to be cracks in that though so when they get around to "monetizing" MySQL people will leave in droves. Some early adopters of MariaDB or other databases seem to be anticipating this and to be honest based on oracle's track record it does not seem like a bad assumption. oracle would rather have complete and dominant control instead of making money.
I have pretty much zero concern that Torment: Tides of Numenera will be anything less than awesome. They did a Kickstarter for Wasteland 2 before this and Inexile have been very transparent about the development of that game and the early game play video looks great.
if a cop or DA wants to talk to you about something you did or if you don't know why understand that you are not talking your way out of something, they are collecting evidence against you or someone else. Most of the time is not in your interests to talk to the cops or prosecutors.
really, is it that hard to understand when you bloat your documentation to be mostly useless headers, etc for who knows why people are going to chuck it like a paper copy of the phone book?
for something that just barely launched and has been continuously shunned, 2% is pretty amazing. I doubt it is going to stay there and will steady climb, especially with windows 8 shooting themselves in the foot with the fear of a only microsoft software store.
my point is how many businesses are going to continue to use or recommend a service that is a financial disaster for them? groupon is a bad business model and stinks a bit of a scam.
the only reviews I have ever read by businesses for groupon have been that they lose huge amounts of money if they use the service. How can groupon losing money be a surprise?
The US military is the single biggest bloated and unnecessary budget the US Government currently makes. The US could completely de-fund the US military for 10 years and still have the most powerful military many times over for the entire period.
the explosion also raises awareness of the problem of putting Linux at risk from microsoft signoff on any bootloader. Not sure if your comments and this awareness are what Linus is hoping to accomplish, but it is pretty effective.
That is really the bigger story. Even now, instead of making money hand over fist printing digital money the riaa would rather create artificial barriers and ridiculous price points for online distribution. If Apple had not dragged them kicking and screaming into the mp3 drm-less world they would have probably broken their cartel by now.
you mean like ending abortion or people owning guns?
Maybe you missed the part that they will bring it to you and you will also get the best price online. Online still wins.

the right question is "what services can I provide that my Customers want". Your never going to get pirates to buy your game no matter what you do.
at this point you know you are going to be treated badly. Don't buy ea games.

republicans just want to blow money on rich people and the military. They are not fiscally conservative so what is the alternative?
I stopped buy ea games years ago and have been much happier gaming since.

it would be very interesting to see the demographics on who voted for orcutt

Manning is a victim of nationalism.

I would not feel too bad for the artists. With hollywood accounting the artists are only getting pennies (if that) for their hard work.

never under estimate the productivity boost from the hallway conversation.
when does the riaa hollywood accounting get some action? Ripping off hard working artists with manipulative deals is fraud in other businesses.
maybe stories by "slashdot staff" can be ignored in the settings.
