    Ultimately, as a resident of WA, I'm in favor of this, the capital being located where it is, makes it incredibly inconvenient for me to observe what goes on there or meet with my members of congress.

    If they can meet with their peers electronically, why can't you/we do the same?

    Give the software for free and charge for support. It's a proven model that allows plenty of folks to make a living.

    Not everything needs 'paid' support. A $5 application for graphic designers should be easy enough to use without having to pay to ask questions.
    A full server OS with a large support team, yes. A small graphic app? No.

    The lack of concrete action against NK might be a lesson for Iran.
    If you don't want to be fucked with, actually having nukes is the best bet.


    If he actually had some. Show us one example of the NKs launching a surface to surface missile that hit anything but 'ocean'.
    And having a reliable warhead that would actually fit on one of those missiles
    And having more than one of those.

    Semantics, but 'intercept' does not necessarily mean bring it down. It can also mean, 'just find it'.
    In any case, they could not have shot it down, as they did not have the necessary weapons on board, and couldn't wait for them to be loaded. They did, however, make the joint decision to ram it if necessary.

    Jebus, dude, it's simple. Here ya go (budget 6 weeks for this):

    1. Buy/rent skis and a good road bike.
    2. Obtain plane/train/bus tickets to Zermatt in early June.
    3. Ski the glacier for a week.
    4. Ship the skis home (you don't want to haul them around for the next month)
    5. Bike down the Alps to the coast, meeting the water at or around Nice
    6. Continue your bike trip from Nice, down the coast, until you hit Barcelona
    7. Turn inland, through Zaragoza, Guadalajara, until you get to Madrid
    8. In Madrid, find a little bar. It's kinda near the Plaza del Sol. Tell Nico that Pete (the weird American that used to go out with Asphen) sent you. He'll hook you up.
    9. Party a couple more days.
    10. Sell the bike and fly home
    11. Continue with the rest of your life.
    12. Profit!

    Oh...you don't like doing that? Well then...find something else. (but don't blame me when you have a crappier time)

    Whatever platform she ends up on, create a start page for Firefox or whatever. Mimic some of the same links within the AOL start screen and to wherever else she generally goes to.

    Makes things much easier.

    In many cases, they omit or falsify the year which is often the most valuable portion of the birthdate.

    Which can be gleaned quite closely by looking at their HS graduation year. Or if they've not provided that, look at their friends. Find a big cluster in one particular year, bingo, that's probably it.

    2. What do pilots base that on? and why would they be qualified to make such a determination? As far as I can tell the FAA disagrees considering the rules favoring many engined planes for commercial use.

    The standard saying is:
    "I'd rather have an engine fail, rather than have the engine fail.

    With almost all the seats inside the system being occupied by people who are leaning towards the BIG BROTHER I am afraid the regular old-style "attacks" will become less and less effective

    It mostly works for 'them'. Repeated variations of CISPA, etc. Until something sticks.

    If you can work from home, you can't need much of a security clearance.

    DoD does allow most civilian workers to work from home sometimes, even those with a clearance. Can't directly access the airgapped network (or above), but not everything you do needs direct access to uber secret data.

    Did you miss the first line of the post you're replying to? "I have money and I'm willing to use it."

    And the entire rest of it was about seedboxes, VPNs, no advertising, torrents, Usenet. Setting up all of that costs time and money. But nothing in there about actually paying the content creators.

    I only want to have to deal with one thing though. I don't want a hulu, and a netflix, and an iTunes, an amazon, etc. I just want something that I can plug into my TV and just type in what I want and then watch/listen to it.

    Yeah, I get it. The content owners need to wheel and deal and figure out licensing and who can distribute what, etc. and whathave you. Well, guess what? I don't give a fuck. That's not my problem! And I'll be DAMNED if I have to watch advertising.


    Guess what? Your boss wants the same thing. Push a button, and quality stuff flies out of your mouth for free. Do you think they like paying you thousands of dollars a year? Hell no.
    Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. I fully agree that the current system needs major tweaking, and the current rulers of the content you seek are asshats. But 100% free to your eyeballs isn't the answer, either.

    But fundamentally, yes, the British are at least as violent as Americans, maybe more so. But because we don't have civilians owning handguns, the murder rate is a quarter.

    How can you possibly describe a quarter of them being victims of homicide as "more helpless to protect themselves". These are the kind of illogical knots the US gun lobby tie themselves up in.


    I get that. But when a criminal knows that his potential victim is unarmed, he is apparently more likely to follow through on his attack. Now lets add in the criminal on criminal crime. I wonder how the homicide rate would vary if we eliminated counting gangbangers shooting each other?

    I fully recognize that there are problems in the US with gun crime and homicides. But let's not fool ourselves into thinking that all is well elsewhere, because of stricter gun laws.
