Because if you use GPL code in your project, and distribute it, all your code in that project gets released under the GPL or you violate the terms of the license. Kind of how a virus attacks a cell and modifies it's DNA, the GPL code inserted into a project forces the project to distribute it under the GPL.
Not to mention it functions like one too. A few releases ago, the driver had broken the ability to display 1650x1050 and up until recently it couldn't suspend with any kernel using the SLUB allocator which debuted as the default in 2.6.23 but was in 2.6.22. What a joke.
The House should pull a lot of the funding the executive branch has in order to play ball. I mean, why does Dick Cheney really need an office and a staff? The Constitution gives the Vice President two jobs, a tie breaker in Congress and to succeed the President if he dies or is removed from office other than that he should have no more power. Though Ron Paul has no chance, I'm sure he'd put an end to the Dick Cheney type VPs.
Well, anybody who bought this heaping pile of shit and didn't expect this kind of behavior to ensue deserves EVERY bit of it.
Since the greatest amount of failures occurred with the original launch model, I doubt anyone with one of those expected it to be a heaping pile of shit.
for a solid state drive, which are very expensive right now. The X300 had as a lot of better features than the Air which outway the smaller drive size. Besides, I assume people who are going to use this are business types who travel a lot. I can't imagine they'll need much more for word files and power point presentations and if they really do then carry an external USB drive with you.
They advertise *up to* a certain rate, they don't guarantee that you will get that rate, nor could they, transfer speed depends on things that are not all in their control, like the upload speed of the server your computer is downloading from.
In short, there is no final bill until the House & Senate compromise and each pass an identical bill; it's likely that neither of the current versions will be the final bill, since each house refused to pass the others' version.
Let's hope the House has some ounce of morale fiber left not to give in and pass this bill with immunity.
WGA is Microsoft securing their product. How do you suggest it figure out who stole it and who didn't without bothering you but still preventing pirates from getting their product for free?
Because you know pirates can't crack the software to circumvent WGA or anything like that. WGA only annoys the legit-user, pirates just shut it off.
A lot of schools already block P2P anyway because they only have so much bandwidth to go around, and educational use of it comes first. What's really going to change?
If so then you need to tell your politicians to re-introduce the law that forced the backbone providers to wholesale bandwidth to anybody who wants to get into the ISP business
Why should backbone providers be forced to sell bandwidth at wholesale prices? For the most part, I already think most of them do. (How else do they stay in business, I'm a little ignorant on the issue). The problem is not the availability of bandwidth, the problem is exclusive franchise agreements with towns which lock out competitors. In the US at least most towns have only 1 cable provider, if your lucky you have two, but usually if there is more than one, their coverage is divided.
She will get absolutely zero done because the Republicans will fight every breath she takes.
So good government is suddenly a bad thing? Having a government that is too fast is a bad thing, we've seen this from 01-06, earmarks ballooned, and Congress bent over for whatever the Bush administration wanted. The only problem is that it would be difficult reversing the damage done by the current administration, and I think Hillary would like the power a bit too much to give it up.
If it eventually gets really interesting, they have another revenue stream as THE ones to go to for support, feature requests, etc.
That premise won't hold much water if the company isn't focused in computer software. The author doesn't state what kind of company he's working for, for all I know he could be writing software for a logging company. These days it isn't part of the core make up of the company, it's not worth their time to explore it.
Makes ya wonder what happened to OpenGL in the PC gaming market.
Maybe if OpenGL development was run as a dictatorship rather than an oligarchy, it would catch on. Right now it's lagging behind DirectX featurewise, because development by committee is slow.
too bad TimeWarner or CNN or some other big media company could not bail yahoo out, i rather see something like that than for microsoft getting their dirty paws on them...
Nope. It's on Fox. In fact, Fox is free over the air. The problem they have with it, is that instead of lets say 4 people per 1 TV, they might have 40 people per 1 TV, where there would have been 40 people split using 10 different TVs. I think ratings are only affected if Neilsen homes aren't watching it though. So it all really comes down to ratings. They'd rather see 10 homes watching the SB rather than 1 church.
The xBox controller - no, just no, buttons are badly placed. The controller is too chunky to hold and they've made Sony's mistake of putting two analogue sticks on it.
The original Xbox controller was way too clunky, but the 360 controller is probably one of the best. Controlling both analog sticks at the same time is not difficult, infact, in FPS games it's very much needed. The ability to aim and move at the same time is needed. The Playstation controller's analog stick placement is bad by sticking both in the middle, but I find the 360's in the right places.
Why the fuck should I pay for their bandwidth? Why don't they just release it via plain old HTTP? Too simple for them? Because it works for those of us behind firewalls? Because it doesn't involve opening ports to the public Internet? Because it doesn't require "Allowing" through twenty or so firewall alerts for who-knows-what to get server rights?
Open the needed ports then, or wait for it to be hosted on some other server. Before BitTorrent became adopted for content distribution, they hosted them on servers, and if it was a popular game, it took a long time to download because the connection was saturated. Now I can max out my connection while downloading so it saves time. i don't play WoW anymore, but when I did it was much appreciated by myself they used torrents. I do understand if your on a college campus and they won't allow you to use a torrent to download, but I think Blizzard also offers a http server to download from too.
Except Qwest, I believe. I don't support blanket immunity, but I do support some immunity. We should be looking at specifics on a case by case basis.
Then you shouldn't support any immunity. If you want to look at by a case by case basis then haul each company into court, if they are found no guilty, they did no wrong, if they are then they should face the consequences. The reason they are asking for immunity, because they know what they did was illegal, but the people in these companies don't want to face jail time or other punishments.
We voted the Dems into the senate precisely so they could fight on important legislation like this; so they could stand firm on principals and keep the executive branch in check. him.
Right and you vote in Republicans to lower taxes and shrink government. It's all good in theory, but in practice never quite turns out that way. The only difference between the two groups is that they think there is differences between them.
WoW has hit critical mass, and new players are not joining it because it's still the best game around, but because they want to know what's all the fuss about. If you never played an MMORPG, and you wanted to play one, which one would you pick? WoW, of course. But not because it IS the best game around but because it's the most played game around. You would use the 'well 10 million people can't be wrong' logic, in picking your first MMORPG.
Maybe, but it could also be because WoW doesn't have a steep learning curve that is attached to other MMORPGs and other games in general. All attributes are chosen for you as you level up, the interface is simple and easy to understand. There is a central community forums where you can get an answer within 5 minutes or less. You don't even have to know which dungeon is the next step up because someone in the guild knows. etc
I haven't played many other MMOs than WoW, but it's simple interface does attract people who aren't heavy into gaming.
When I inquired about the change I found that the department had switched mainly due to the AP exam switching languages
Shouldn't the AP test fit what colleges are doing, not the other way around? That's pretty disturbing that a college will change a department's curriculum because of 1 test they don't even administer.
Maybe Americans should stop voting in the same crap politicians, by continuing to reelect these same people the voters are signaling that they approve the job the politicians are doing whether it's really good, or just plain awful. If people don't show these politicians that they hate the job their are doing by firing them, then they deserve to get what is coming to them and I shouldn't even say that because there are people who vote for someone else and still get stuck with these people.
Seeing how most people still don't have an HDTV, they won't bother getting either an HD-DVD player or a Blu-Ray or a combo unit (if they even make these yet). Until that changes a cheapo DVD player works fine still. It's a start, but I think whoever gets a $100 player out first will win the war. (not on sale, but one that normally retails for $100)
Why is GPL "viral"BS?

it reads like an alpha dev-snapshot.

Nope. It's on Fox. In fact, Fox is free over the air. He's high on crack though. (it's a fun thing to do)

My fear is that they will turn Linux into OS/2, and we all know what happens next....
IBM doesn't have the control over Linux that they had with OS/2. Linux is just a kernel anyway, and it's used on a lot of other distributions.
