1. PS1 backward compatability. 2. Anounced PS2 was coming before Dreamcast was released (thus making potential Dreamcast customers hold their purse strings for PS2). 3. Sega had already screwed too many customers over in the past (Sega CD, 32X, and Saturn) to make them comeback to the fold. 4. Dreamcast had nowhere near the kind of hype PS2 had on release (remember the eBay auctions for $1000).
I know hindsight is 20/20...
Sega should have thrown in a Sega CD / Saturn emulator and possibly a PS1 emuatlor (and joined Connectix against Sony in the PlayStation emulator lawsuits). Bleemcast was too little too late (and not as originally advertised),
They should have also counter advertised that they are now and PS2 is a year from now.
Worked the hype machine more (not a media type, so I don't know one does this)
Am I the only person who does their gaming on consoles and uses the computer (actually PowerBook) for work?
I play games on consoles because it's cheaper than buying a gaming PC. Also, there are a lot of console exclusives I like that don't make it to the PC. A good example of this is the "Buffy the Vampire" games (which are quite good and work well on a console).
IBM manufactured the first production runs of the Atari Jaguar. So they have the experience. But, I just don't think they could do it cheaply enough to be viable in this cutthroat market.
Han shot first. Han was a scumbag (hence his prior dealings with Jabba and his attitude about saving his own hide). The quest (saving the princess and helping destroy the DEATHSTAR) redeemed him. This was displayed in his last minute "hero" decision to help Luke in the DEATHSTAR trench when all hope was lost.
By making Greedo shoot first (ala making a politically correct version of Star Wars), Lucas destroyed a key mthyological undertone that he was purposely trying to stress elsewhere in the movie.
OK, How does Mac OS X cost more than Windows 2000, XP? More difficult to use? Have you ever tried to create a network / printer connection on any recent version of Windows comapared to Mac OS X.
Umm... These are the arcade ROMs, not Atari 2600. If you can find someone who can program "Escape From The Planet Of The Robot Monsters" in an afternoon, I'll hire him / her.
"...bringing in more tourists and business conventions..."
...and hackers who need a free haven to deploy their next Windows worm.
Just buy a used laptop from wherever, 802.11b PC Card, write your worm code, deploy, and throw the laptop in the harbor (heck, they even supply the disposal mechanism).
Acutally, I think it may be computer related... (if we're going out on a limb)
1. Hackers / Cyber-terrorists 2. Windows Worms
I'm more inclined to believe number 2. Right before every major blackout, a new Windows worm appears.
First Energy (the same company that had a nuke power plant infected with a worm in January) was having major computer problems (shutting down) which led up the the NE blackout (per call transcripts). Blaster appeared ealrier that week.
Welchia infects the Satte Department CLASS system days prior to the Italy blackout.
Computer Security Experts release report stating the Windows XP/2000 security holes pose a risk to national security.
Too many large blackouts in disjoint loactions to be merely failing infrastructure.
3) Li-Ion batteries are dieing in a pattern which we did not expect. The processor needs to assume there is less power available than what it was previously calculating.
A lot of Gamecube games support 480p (almost the majority).
I also know, "Dragon's Lair 3D" (cool game by the way) supports 1080i on the XBox.
Hope that helped.
Amen to that. Sold a two year old PowerBook G4/500 on eBay 6 months ago for over $1000. Sure put a dent in my 1 GHz PowerBook purchase price. :-)
Sony beat Sega because of these reasons:

I loved KOTOR for the XBox. Until...
I was hit by the dreaded "Carth" Bug and I didn't keep enough saves to get around it. 27 hours down the drain. Hello eBay.
Hope they fixed that bug in the PC version.
Microsoft weighed it. They determined that it is acutally cheaper to offer bounties that it is to fix the OS.
For $500,000, Win 2000/XP must have a lot of holes (still undisclosed) that would require a ton of manpower to fix.
I just played Donkey Kong on MAME...
Now, I remember where I put my hammer.
I also found my girfriend's purse and umbrella.

They could...

Owned and played both PS2 and XBox. Xbox is more than "slightly more powerful". Heck, the GC is noticabley better that then PS2.
The Proof:
Comapre the Xbox's GTA Double pack (comes out this week) versus the PS2 version. Let's see which is better.
Let's create a phony standard, premote the hell out of it, and see how long it takes Microsoft to say they are implementing it.
Buzzwords for Buzzbrains.
Ummm. Think you missed the point...

...and obviously don't spend money on anything new.
iTunes is barely detracting from the free networks because it is a Mac only solution. But, hey, you say Apple is offering iTunes for Windows today...
Ummmm... "Pitfall!" was created by David Crane (the most legendary Atari 2600 programmer). Anybody who was ever a fan of that game should know that.
The dead horse gets beaten just one more time...
Without the almighty floppy, Apple somehow managed to sell a ton of them.
Also, If it wasn't for the iMac, USB would still be the "What does that port do?" port.
Give it up.

Mod this as flamebait.
That's right. The ideal solution has been around since '79.
The only thing standing in our way now is that really tiny UFO...

Wow sounds a lot like Philadelphia, except our decay and rot surrounds more decay and rot. Wouldn't dare use my Powerbook G4 in public.
Just buy a used laptop from wherever, 802.11b PC Card, write your worm code, deploy, and throw the laptop in the harbor (heck, they even supply the disposal mechanism).
I can't wait for my own Microsoft glow-in-the-dark frisbee that I can keep my code on.
;-)
Shame it will only come in red.

Sounds good, but I think the batteries are NiMH.
"Oh, I hated that movie. Shaq can't act!"
"You kiss your mother with that mouth?"
"Oh, that annoying little green guy from the Flintstones."
"'Cause you what?"
"No, not since the accident. But, thanks for asking."
Still compromises the system even if it deletes itself. Integrity cannot be guaranteed.
Are you sure it's the same strain?
