I can't believe that Apple stiill won't acknowledge that they need multi-button mice (esthetics or not).
Apple loves to tout how games like Quake 3 look great on a Mac. Have you ever tried playing Quake 3 with a one button mouse? Did you survive longer than 10 secs after you re-spawned?
2) This is better for people than having any country invade or bomb another. This type of invasion may be a precursor to that one - but if, in the future, a country can be brought to its knees with minimal loss of life by just wrecking its computer infrastructure, then that is a good development of history.
Yeah, critical computer equipment in nuclear power plants, training track switching computers and etc. isn't gonna kill anyone...
Being a 'white middle-class' resident of Philly, let's set the record straight...
We're not so desparate that the city is building (built) 2 brand new stadiums at a HUGE cost to the taxpayers (see Monday Night Football this week). But, hey, the labor unions need their payoffs / kickbacks for their continued support of Mayor Street.
Philly has money for what it wants to have money for. That's always been the case. They could do better by the schools (considering they just upped real estate taxes again). They don't want to.
How else are they going to get street sweepers for "The Avenue of the Arts"?
Microsoft wants that market. The Vallas probably promised MS the entire school district's new purchases if they support this project. He went to them not vice versa. Read the article.
The Philly school district is still mostly Apple territory. My sister, Philadelphia teacher and Mac lover, is quite disturbed by this.
And, 10.3 Panther will also let you save off the updates. That way, you won't have to re-download them in case you need to rebuild the system (provided that you archive the packages).
Sure beats the "Winbows XP re-install and download 80 Mb of updates" hamster wheel.
I sold my PS2. Same boring titles churned out month after month. The only game I miss is the "Activision Anthology" (pretty cool unlockables).
I love my Xbox and GC. "Knights of the Old Republic" owns me. And, I can't wait to get back to "Zelda Wind Waker" and "Metroid Prime". Also, the Wavebird (GC wireless controller) rocks.
I never got that excited at anthing PS2 including "Twisted Metal : Black."
Being a long time resident of Philly, this doesn't surprise me at all. I've dealt with and know a few of the drones employed by the City. They'll maybe have it all fixed by Spring '04.
Heck, just last month, we almost killed a Supreme Court Justice during the dedication of the National Constitution Center:
http://www.nbc10.com/4july/2312737/detail.html I just love this town (sneer)!
Yes, agreed.
Han was supposed to be start out being a scumbag.
The quest (helping the rebel alliance) redeems him.
I guess Lucas forgot that... PC idiot that he has become.
Frankly, I even remember old Star Wars toy ads where Greedo gets shot (knocked over) by Han in the Cantina playset.
Man, ciritize something about Apple and you get hammered...
Like everyone else, Apple does do some bone headed sometimes.
One button mice on a Unix Platform in the 21st Century is bone headed.
Mac OS X is not System 1.0 (which 1 button was fine for).

Rant much?
...that getting a high quality recording off of these cable boxes is not going to be allowed.
Glad I haven't bought that DVD recorder yet.
Oh Panasonic, how you tant me with your DVD-R goodness.
There's a lot of 12 year old drug dealers on the streets. Are they too young to know what they are doing?
Don't worry, if it's like everything else new that Apple ships, they truly won't be available for 2-3 months.
Enjoy your 30 in hand.
Me, I sorta glad I bought my Powerbook G4 1Ghz, instead of waiting months for a speed bumped version to show up.
Yeah, critical computer equipment in nuclear power plants, training track switching computers and etc. isn't gonna kill anyone...
Thank you. Someone who actually has an idea of what happened...
I miss Atari...

...I want to see the "student on teacher brutality" and "in-classroom rapes" realtime. Aren't they the norm in Philadelphia Public schools these days?
Goofy distractions like this are soooo not helping any of the real problems in Philly schools...
The other reason they can't get qualified teachers is because THEY PAY NEXT TO NOTHING.
Philly suburban teachers get paid close to twice as much.
I agree with the "Joe Clarke : baseball bat wielding principal" comment.
Are you serious? I mean really!!!
Microsoft does things to benefit itself

Professor Falken.
The 18 year old is from Seattle, WA and his name is David Lightman!
The Blaster worm's original name was Joshua.
How about "Personality Slots" on mid-90s Macs? Now there's a totally marketing saturated product name.
Actually the real reason Apple is not selling OS X on x86 (and Apple does in fact have this) is THEY SELL HARDWARE!!!
Why kill your hardware sales buy selling your OS on a cheaper platform?
OS X on x86 is a failsafe hardware manufacturing exit strategy. Nothing more.

Ever heard of USB mouse? Logitech? $15?
This Slashdot readng Phila resident says:
AMEN!!!!

Acutally, the alarm will go off when "Friends" actually returns to being a watchable show. Don't worry, it will never happen...
Being a past owner of a Mac SE (dual floppy), they shipped with System 4.1. Just FYI.
Ditto...
old row home = wiring hassle.
Wi-Fi = freedom.
That broken bottle wouldn't have contained Steve flavored Kool-Aid? Hmmm...
:-)
I've been a Mac user / programmer for 15 years and the Sherlock 3 SDK still sucks.
And, Apple does screw up on occasion.
