If you had a scoring system you would need to decide how many "point" a certain stufy would give. Who then decides what study is sound and what is not. Also how many MORE points do you give to studies that are done better than smaller scale and less effective studies. These are the type of things that statistics is for. Yes theoretically we could grade studies and theories but it would be rediculously inaccurate. We cant get scientists to agree on most new theories anyway so we would never get them to agree on what constitutes a good theory and bad theory.

There is no easy way around it unfortunatly. The reason why scientists' opinions are held highly is becuase they spend their life int he goal of being able to understand theories and decide which are good and which are not. Nobody yet has perfected it and so no system could ever be invented that does it perfect either.

Almost all consumer goods are increasing in price faster than inflation. Debt is a huge issue and although it may be a person's mistake that gets them into debt it is the nation's problem that debt is ruining our social fabric.

Actually i used to work as a chef in a french resturant where i served and ate raw steak every day. I never got sick once working at that job. The key to raw meat is that it is GENERALLY safe on its own but when left out it gets really bad really fast. Same with eggs. The key here is to NEVER eat chicken less than cooked. If you want ot try undercooked poultry (which i recommend) try duck. Duck does not have salmonella so it can be served rare to medium. I recommend more tender ducks to be served rare to medium rare where as more chewy and stringer duck (which will usually have more flavor) be served closer to medium well.

So back to steak, the best way to eat steak is sliced up carefully in small (1 millimeter) cubes. Tartare is one of the best things i have ever eaten but msot places do it all wrong. Many places grind the meat like hamburger but it really needs to be sliced to maintain the texture. Mix with capers, lemon juice (fresh), olive oil, mustard, onions, and parsley and it is one of the best flavors you can ever imagine.

This is just not true. Spreading FUD and lies will sure make people THINK we aren't sure but that doesn't mean that an informed and educated person can be as sure about climat change as they are about the "theories" of physics which we can safely rely on despite being "just a theory".

Is the planet hotter than at any point in the past? - certainly not.
Your arguement is a textbook case of a fallacy of logic called the appeal to tradition, if i remember right. You try to make it seem like the fact that this is not THE HOTTEST it has ever been means that it's not getting any hotter.

Is there anything we can do about it? - this is the biggie.
The only way we won't be able to do anyhting about it is if enough people are stalled with partisan rhetoric about how this is a polical issue that people need to take sides on based about political values. The energy companies managed to exploit the fact that we are a divided country and they simply chose a side to be against (liberals) and they got the other half of the country aon their side becuase of it.

You are half-correct (maybe more than half). Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is the onyl way to solve the problme but we cant feel helpless and give up takign any measures becuase the problem is too big. Kyoto is flawed becuase it won't SOLVE the problem but it is a step that is crucial for our future. The CO2 is not a zero sum system. Not only the oceans absorb CO2. Plant growth and other "natural" CCS system are working for us but at the same time that we are removing rainforest we are burning the trees which releases the CO2 theyb absorbed to grow and replacing the trees with most often cattle. The cattle create methane which is 23 times more powerful than CO2 as a green house gas.

As i said before Kyoto is not the solution and neither is the saving the rainforest. There is no magic solution here, the only possible way we can pull out is by taking care of the environment everywhere. We cant seperate the important of different life support systems on earth and think we can do away with some of them.

First of all $400 is not what it costs. You need to account for the HDTV that is needed to take advantage of the new hardware you have.

Second a $400 computer wont be able to keep up with your 360 but thats not how you should look at it. A computer is a multi-purpose system. Think of it this way. You spend $1000 for a computer that is no good for games but has a decent CPU and ram. $1000 is not an unreasonable price to get a computer that is up to the specs of a 360 not including the video card. So lets say you have this computer in your house and you want to play video games. Your options are spend $400 on a 360 or $400 on a video card for your computer. A $400 video card will be much faster that the video card in the 360. Also your computer will benefit in other ways from having a good video card.

I think your original comparison was kind of an apples and oranges arguement but when you consider the full cost of a 360 and the full benefit of a nice PC you can see why 360's are not that great.

Also i should mention that i used to work for microsoft on the 360. I have played almsot every game to ever be released for it and i can say that most are junk. The "best" games for consoles are the sports and racing games which are not something i enjoy. I much prefer RTS and FPS games which is where the PC blows consoles out of the water.

I think game selection should be the most important criteria in chosing a PC or console. As i stated above $400 will get you nearly the same PC or console gaming hardware (i think PC wins but not by very much). However if you are someone who is a big racing or sports fan and like to have friends come over and play Madden or Gran Turismo then a PC is something you shouldn't even consider.

Now to be fair there is a real and measurable increase in global temperature that is natural but that barely accounts for the *ahem* tip of the iceburg of climate change. The natural "cyclical" climate chance is blown out of the water by the unnatural, unhealthy, and unexpected speed of human caused climat change.
