I'm a computer engineering student, and I have no problem taking notes on my laptop. The notes and formulas I write in LaTeX, and I draw diagrams by hand on paper, and reference that figure within the written notes.
I'm not noticeably slower than anyone else when taking notes (actually, I'm faster than many students), and the ability to grep through notes is priceless.
A proper set up (not necessarily an expensive setup) can make vinyl sound very good and make wear on the actual media negligible. However, most people have only heard vinyl on very cheap equipment that was improperly set up, which is no way to judge the format. The problem is that even with very decent equipment, properly setting it up is difficult as there are many variables (tracking force, anti-skate, overhang, vertical tracking angle, etc.).
Some may argue that this difficulty is even more of a reason to go with CDs or some other digital format exclusively. These are the same type of people who argue that Linux is too difficult and that everyone should use Windows, as it is obviously superior.
My personal reason for having a turntable is that a lot of excellent music is simply not available on any other format. The same also goes for vinyl: a lot of excellent music is not available on vinyl, which is why it is stupid to restrict yourself to only one format for any reason.
Actually, CDs technically have a higher dynamic range than Vinyl, its just that the labels are in a constant competition to see who can make their CD the loudest...

I must say that getting involved in FIRST Robotics is a great way to volunteer your time. FIRST currently has over 900 teams in the US, and there are more every year.
The controllers are programmed in C, so there is no lack of programming work, though a team can opt to not program them at all. The first 15 seconds of the two minute competition is completely.
If you make it clear that it is not solely a geek thing, but involves tasks that most geeks wouldn't even think about (welding, assembling parts, designing chassis and drivetrain, etc.), you should have no problem getting people involved.
Another good resource for FIRST is a forum at ChiefDelphi. If you decide to start a team, post there and see if there are any teams in your area willing to help you.
Personally, I've found that the controllers made by Innovation First are excellent. They are straightforward to program in C (assembly for those sadistic people) and offer a ton of control (16 10 bit analog inputs, 16 pwm outputs, 16 digital in/outs). This would be a great choice for the control system...
"Next, Microsoft plans to create a comparable system using Windows and its own server products to see how Windows and Linux match up side-by-side in a variety of workload scenarios."
from what i can tell, microsoft is setting up a few linux servers and putting one of its own employees, a 10 year microsoft verteran with probably no experiance in linux, in charge of configuring the software, and having another microsoft employee set up window servers... of course they are going to say it will cost more for a company to deploy linux! they are going to say that it takes longer to set up... of course it does when you have an idiot setting things up!
ah... i feel much better..
Palm's do not have the same processing power as Pocket PCs. The fastest Palms are around 66MHz, while my iPaq is 206MHz, and other Pocket PCs are around 400MHz. My Sony T665C(I think thats the model...) play's mp3s and videos horrilbly compared to my iPaq. I would think that they would port it to a platform that has the most processing power. Regardless, I can't wait for it to come out for Pocket PCs... it maybe time to invest in that 1GB Microdrive....
I discovered Linux when I was eleven. I have been using it since, execpt for gaming where I either use XP or 2000. All servers in my house run Debian 3.0 or FreeBSD 4, and my main computer runs Mandrake 9.0. The nice thing is my computer is MY computer, I can try any OS I want to try, although I have found none that compete with any Linux.
I don't understand why Greece would put a ban on gaming. It is understandable for gambaling purposes, but ALL forms of gaming, I think thats just wrong
Just use 3 1 pair phonelines and crimp on an RJ-45 connector. Sure, youre out 3 phone lines, but I would prefer to live without phones rather than my network
My teacher used to get together with 50 to 100 people and go outside abortion clinics and tell people not to get an abortion. They all got arrested but were released after a few hours. If thats happens tomorrow, where a hundred people get arrested and get released, we will never hear any thing about it and Perens message won't get across
I just bought a Cisco Catalyst 2822-EN on eBay for $125 and when it arrived, it had a FDDI Fiber DAS module in it with 2 Fiber ports and a DIN passthrough port on it. I can't imagine that the module could cost that much money if i got that and a switch for $125

I can't seem to find on Radiohead's website which format(s) the digital download is encoded in.
I suppose MP3 is a given due to its widespread acceptance, but I'd personally be more inclined to pay more for an album encoded in FLAC or similar.

Double-U, I, N, D, O, Double-U, S.
uuindows.com!
2600, Maximum PC (though less and less since I ditched Windows), Popular Science, Stereophile, What HiFi?, and Linux Magazine.

...doesn't any one else find it a little odd that scaled.com is hosted off of apache on linux?

Why is Ximian not supporting Slack?
hrmm.. no wonder the muriatic acid turned black when i put aluminum in it... have any more info on this?
Either they would have to have high power transmitters or put the AP's close to the road. Another option would be to use a nice yagi....
If i were Linus, i would leave transmeta...

even worse, logging onto root and it saying (not exact wording) "Password for user root has expired, please contact your system administrator"

From what I have heard, PAL has better quality than NTSC, which is the US's standart for broadcasts and films.
