Rumsfeld might have used it to his public detriment by listening to engineers.
If you've ever let an engineer talk at length, you probably know how that can go.
For example: if I know what I know based on what you have told me (which could be a preliminary assessment on your part where you could actually be dealing with unknowns yourself), then I have a "known", assuming that you are a reliable source of information.
In my experience, design of major, multi-million dollar facilities operate this way since the process tends to be chaotic in nature with all the different disciplines involved. In the end result it's all about chaos management.
In my experiences, the phillips drives are the hardest to read with, even just slightly scratched or dirty dvds give it problems...the thompson and samsung drives are able to read the same discs with no problems most of the time (some discs are just play unreadble). My thompson drive will read cd-rw disks but only from select media vendors, the samsung drive seems to read everything (hence the reason I've upgrade the 2 phillips drives with samsung drives).
I'm with ya buddy. Back a long time ago we had similar problems with Eyeball Mk 1. It wouldn't read document7 and had to be replaced by a newer version.
My guess is that history will prove that the war was worth it, not only for Iraqis but for the world as a whole.
The US needs another ally in the middle east since Saudi Arabia and Israel are opposite sides of a political fence.
Iraq is probably a pivot point in long-range geopolitical objectives in an unstable area of the world. Yes it also has oil.
The "war to end all wars" didn't and led us into an even worse one. Everything since then was based on MAD. "Put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye". Was that just a "hippie" statement?

Male-female marriage itself is really just an old tradition. There certainly isn't anything sacred about it any more is there?
In many western societies co-habitation beyond a minimum period of time is considered to be a legal relationship. I wonder if this applies to same-sex couples - I see no reason that it wouldn't.
Gays clamouring for marriage rights seem to be fighting the wrong fight. In my opinion their efforts would be better spent publicizing prominent people from the community that aren't stereotypical.
It's not as if the gay community is oppressed to the extent that blacks were as recently as 50 years ago. Stigmatized and misunderstood by many, yes. Violation of basic rights, no.
If I recall correctly, about 78% of people in this state approved a bill "defining" marriage and forbidding civil unions
Approval of "Gay marriage" implies government responsabilities regarding spousal benefits, n'est ce pas? Government tends to reward the typical male + female = future taxpayers.
It's actually a sad story... the guy had to turn to pr0n industry at some point, because nobody wanted to fund him anymore (I'm sure you can guess why)
He tried so hard for so long, putting his heart into something that he believed in (angora sweater fetishes aside) and never made it into the Hollywood system. At least now his films are well known if only for extreme badness. Plan 9 from Outer Space is widely considered to be the worst film ever.
I always think of Russ Meyer (who died just recently) for some reason when I hear Ed Wood's name.
I fear that we are facing a losing battle until and unless BigCorp.com consortium picks up the ball and starts running Radio/TV ads educating the general public.
Many of us here get over 100 POS emails per day since we tend to either have websites or long-existing email addresses that would be impractical to abandon.
For the casual web user though, spam is probably just a nuisance and not a plague and I bet that a lot of the clueless clickers (owners of Zombified machines) are just lonely people opening email just to see what's there.
"Twenty percent of all searching was sex-related back in 1997; now it's about 5 percent,"
Believe it or not, most people don't include porn in their regular searching habits, some people really *do* use the web for work stuff. My crappy link site is one example - people actually go there to learn about the subject matter.
Porn this, porn that, every new technology is first pioneered by porn...
Bullshit.
We non-computer techhies are turned on by nipples, trycocks and laying pipe. And we know where these secret places are.
I'd like to know what Linus' thoughts are regarding Linux in the CAD world. The input I've gotten is that it exists, but proprietary file formats, foot-dragging and inertia are hindering the process of opening up the existing state of the art.
Maybe IHBT. The rest of your spelling was fine, that's what made it so funny.
For a long while I was using AvantBrowser on top of IE for its popup-killing abilities. Firefox is much better in that it lets you know that a popup has been blocked and gives you the option of what to do with it (some popups are good, like logins, etc.)
Ctrl-F with look-ahead and highlighting is also *very* nice, but I forget if that's an extension I have installed or part of the basic install.
In my head, my voice sounds like a sexy baritone, but when I hear my voice in voicemail, it sounds tinny and whiney.
I know what you mean, except visually. When I look at myself in a mirror I see a super studly alpha male. But in public, small children point and laugh at me. I curse thee, Narcissus!

"Of the known unknowns a decision can be made. For the unknown knowns, we have to be flexible."
This actually makes sense from a real-world (not computer) engineering point of view, but the overuse of the word makes it look/sound clownish.
Maybe I'm right but someone will probably correct me.
Perhaps data has not been properly entered. Please try again.
Problem is that everyone always wants all three.
Result? Everyone promises top-quality everything (looked at a lame "mission statement" lately?) at zero cost RIGHT NOW.
Hilarity abounds as the true nature of real-life (not just computer) projects emerges, reality (like gravity) strikes yet again.
Does the following sound familiar?
1 Enthusiasm
2 Disillusionment
3 Panic
4 Search for the guilty
5 Punishment of the innocent
6 Reward of the non-participants

That's why people get WARRANTIES.
Exactly how far up into my brain do I push the crayons?
how stupid do you have to be to invade a country, destroy it's entire civil government, and NOT disarm the people?
Ironic and historically ignorant.
Just take away the RPGs. Maybe the local population needs armour-piercing defense against T-Rex.

Great comment (I'm not religious). It's difficult to do, but it works in the long run and sometimes they is us.
Sounds cool and stuff until some Norwegian finds somethingburied in the ice...

Disclosure: I'm not gay.

Today, I imagine he'd give that honor to a picture with more hooters in it.
Any film with gratuitous hooter exposure are auto-placed in my favourites, that's why I referenced Russ Meyer.
Porno hooters are just too easy to come by. Oh, crap that sounded like...oh, nevermind.

Just an aside on Brad Templeton - he's the founder of rec.humor.funny and does other stuff, too.
the idea of "keywords" and that putting in more keywords only narrows the results without using any operators (AND, OR)
Oh, how I pine for AltaVista in 1997...or was it HotBot?

So, like, I could just use the word, "crappy" as a 6-letter adjective rather than, say, "superfluous"? Saves letters, time and thought, must be good!
Always remember and never forget: eschew obfuscation.

With an acronym like SHARK, it's got to be good!
Also, words like, "mnemonic", "sokgraph", "algorithms" and "morphed" guarantee a high geek-Q.
Unfortunately, another geek/teen-popular word is "random".

Firefox still sometimes effs up Slashdot's rendering. Or is it the other way around?
