    Who's to say that isn't what was intended? I'm sure many sites would like to get rid of user comments. "Just pay for our content. We don't need no talkback, especially if it is critical."

    With modern scanners and computational power it should be easy to scan the serial numbers off all those pennies in real time, so I bet you couldn't get away with that trick these days.

    However, these days, electronic theft on a large scale happens and nobody hears about it. Because:

    - don't want to encourage further attempts
    - don't want to admit to security breach

    This can cover up huge insider shenanigans.

    And what is happening more now is the replacement of human thinking. One discipline/systems expert, or more likely a few of them, accompanied by a dozen programmers can literally put millions of people out of work (or at least make their existing jobs marginally valuable and thus disposable during the next economic downturn).

    And yes, there will be some people necessary for the design and maintenance of new automation, but nowhere near the amount of people needed previously.
