First...This is bad. Patents are great, but did this company actually make these products that use their patent? Patents should be like trademarks, in which you actually have to use it, and produce it, with PROOF, to keep it.
Terrible news.
I thought the name sounded familiar. Was he the guy in charge of DX:IW then? I guess staring at those walls, like he said he did, really didn't help much after all.
Most companies turn right around and have to give profits to investors and producers, so the company worth is not that high, and even if they sold, the money would go to the investors. I do not know Dice's situation, though. Companies like Bullfrog and Origin lasted a long time because they spanned multiple genres. Meanwhile Dice is just primarily one series as far I know. If they owner of Dice were able to keep the profits from selling, then selling might be the best decision for him/her/them. Take the money and invest in your own company without investors or producers, then hire all your good programmers back, and leave the ones that suck. This seems to be the trend. (ie: almost any company that has been bought by EA)
I haven't played Halo2, so I can't say if it works well. The big catcher was how he said it was not a pure peer model because clients do things like handle reloading your weapon animations? I guess he doesn't understand the difference between the presentation layer and the network, or he just explained it badly.
Being able to drop a server, and continue with another is pretty cool, but I think the increased trafic for keeping all systems syced is not worth it. I thought XBox live servers were supposed to host games anyways to stop cheaters?
When I think of the CD-Rom gaming age, I think of that HUGE company 'Rocket Science'. They had directors and modelers that helped make movies such as Alien. Wired even did a big story on them. What ever happened to them? I guess when they tried to jump on the FMV bandwagon they missed.
After reading all these replys here, all I can see is that everyone who was not there wishes they were there. Akihabara is a magical place. There really doesn't have to be a reason to go, and to actually have a reason to be there for 24 hours is great, especially surrounded by fellow geeks. The PSP is really nothing more than a joystick attached to a small screen, which in turn is connected to a PS2 behind the couch. You can't leave the couch because it will disconnect/run out of juice. Either way, cool tech and I want one.
I think it is cool Lineage is giving free expansions. I think it is funny that the 'claimed' amount of subscribers exist. I have lived in both US and Japan, and only knew 2, count them TWO people who played the game. This includes working in Tokyo at Canon, in Shinagawa, going to Animation school in Yoyogi, walking distance from Shinjuki, now living in Austin, talk on the internet EVERY DAY, am on tons of news groups, etc. etc. I have met in both countries countless more people that play, or have played, mostly UO, DAoC, AO, SWG and lately WoW. The others also fall by the way side. I don't know...maybe AC was mostly for high schoolers below my age. Anyways...those graphs mean nothing to me. What is important is if I KNOW people who play the game. What is important is if I can actually relate and talk to people who are playing the game. When I got to the Tokyo Game Show, they give out soooo many free Lineage game disks with X hours of play. I ended up giving to my friends, who in turn never played it. Do those numbers count those free game disks since they are indeed active accounts? The answer is YES!
Funny how forieners can forgive, even even after one generation, yet here in America, after MANY generations, we still have people yelling about their ancestors.
Those are all games that Sony is either the producer or have a ties into. I already own WA3, which is a great game, and would probably take PaRappa2 just to round out my collection. I think it is pretty cool of Sony to do this. It is a pretty big selection to choose from, and to get it by just trading in a demo disk is a great deal.
The XBox is a great system, but one reason Halo 2 has sold so many copies is because there is not any other good games out for the system. I can say this because I own an XBox along with every other system and I barely have 4 games for it. I've bought several multi platform games in the near past, but they never seem to make an XBox version. Unfortunatly, since I do own all the systems, Halo 2 doesn't have enough appeal for me to purchase it. Games like Ninja Gaiden and HL2 do, though.
How can people actually complain about being provided HL2-DM? Valve gave us CS first because they realized the popularity of it, and I am sure happy they provided DM finally. HL DM was the best version of any DM simply because it was far more than just running around and shooting, and brought back memories of DukeNukem DM. The variety in the types of weapons is what makes it fun, and knowing how to use them effectively in a heated battle is an incredible experience. What's more is Valve annouced a DM map competition.
"Design Commercial Grade Interactive Exhibits For Museums Or Amusement Parks Powered By PC/Game Console Requiring Industrial Style Input Devices"
Yea, go ahead and stick a Mame machine or any console in a park without the proper licenses. Even if you don't ask for any money, you still might get in trouble. Don't forget about the cafe that got sued by valve because they were using a retail copy.
I heard that if you install CS:Source first, without HL2, run it, THEN install HL2 it runs. This of course comes from an idiot at work who 'has' two friends who came across the same problem
Anyone who has played the later levels in D3, especially the Hell levels, will know that the game gets drastically better near the end. I found the first levels of D3 to be monotonous and boring. This article is like comparing apples and oranges with the added insult of not even removing the skins.
Ahh...texture thrashing.
My CD store bought copy is nothing more than a burnt version of what is downloaded from Steam. I kind of wish I downloaded it and saved the gas and time to pick it up, plus I would have gotten more goodies.
Just look at history. Siblings have always killed siblings for power/money. Sure, it sounds like a movie, but it is human nature. How many times have you said to yourself "I can't beleieve I did that!"
Rarely spoken by me...but...I would have to give Richard the prize of 'Right guy at the Right time' award. Ultima 1-7 were nothing but the same game with better animations. They had the same interaction, etc. He had the money to try something 'different' (U8, U9) and they both kind of sucked (I played and finished them both) compared to other games of the same and previous times. I still think he is great for what he has done, and I just hope he has found a new direction, and Warren will do the same.

The fact is the Wow looks MUCH better. How they do it doesn't matter. What 'could' have been means Jack to what 'is'.
The real crime in this whole story is that someone bought a Monsters Inc. game for their child. *shiver*

The next thing you know people will start blaming the break dancing craze on Electric Boogaloo.
So far Quake 4 sounds more like Doom the game than Doom the movie does.
Can my TV actually support that resolution?

Jap?! Someone sounds grumpy.

The article did, actually...

Well, that's just it. The action really intensifies in the later stages of D3 versus the slow single serving shootouts of the earlier stages.
