Sure, complain all you want. Just don't expect anyone to take you seriously.
Israel's security policies are the only reason it's possible to catch a flight out of the country without being blown up, and I wouldn't be surprised if their airports are the safest place to be in that part of the world. Hate to break it to you, but everyone else's safety outweighs your convenience.
They'd keep you off the plane, anyway. It's a simple fact: if the palestinians think they have a chance to blow up an airplane, they'll try it. Isreal's security policies are the only reason it's possible to fly into and out of the country.
>textbook prices could be reduced by forty percent, dropping the cost of textbooks over a four year period at a university from five to two thousand
A 40% reduction would save 60%?
Do prices really go up that much over 4 years?
(I have the feeling I'll regret asking that...one of my professors has a book for which the new price has gone from $175 to $217 in the last year or so)
Fortunately, OO-PPT conversion seems to be pretty transparent; I actually originally downloaded OO primarily because I needed to be able to view Powerpoint slides, and since then I've been using it to view.ppt files created in Powerpoint (and create files to be run under powerpoint) with no trouble.
I used to hate it when files were only available in.ppt also, but lately I've come to appreciate that it's often easier to do things that way than any other. And thanx to OO we don't have to blow all that money on MSOffice:-)
One thought I had, reading through what's been posted so far, is that I wonder just how many slashdotters are waiting for dinnertime before they call the ATA execs at home.
I actually managed to get the ATA website to load, but for some reason, I just don't seem to have any motivation to copy it here so people won't keep slashdotting the server...
Yes....I've wondered what's up with Amazon's search. Frequently I'll type in the exact title of a book, then have to scroll through the results to get to it. If I search for "the art of computer programming", volume 1 is #13 on the list..
I do use Amazon frequently, mostly because the 3rd party sellers is often the cheapest option for textbooks.
err.. no it's not. I don't see anyone on the left supporting the inefficiencies you speak of.
Well, no, but the left certainly likes to ignore their enormous costs so they can complain they don't have enough money for their ineffectual government programs.
My understanding is that under Bush, the federal government has grown to its largest size, EVER....and yet the republicans still claim to be the party of small government. Go figure.
Exactly which ineffectual government program is it that you want to get rid of?
>Unlike both Google and VMWare, Microsoft has an R&D budget of billions of dollars.
>Google is doomed.
After all, we know that having more money means you automatically win. Just look at Windows; since it has more invested in it, it's obviously superior to linux, so naturally nobody will ever use the latter, and linux is doomed..
This looks pretty cool, but reading through the article I don't really see exactly how much eletricity these will produce per window. Will they make a significant dent in the power costs for a typical household? The cells may only be a quarter each, but how much will it cost to embed them in the windows and collect the power?
Not sure what I think about this. On the one hand, I have to favor any ruling that increases privacy. On the other hand, what IS the difference between using a GPS device to track someone and just following him around? Is it merely that it allows someone to be tracked without significant effort or expense, thus expanding how much information can be collected with limited resources?
But yeah, you're right...it costs a lot more to live today, but we also have a lot more STUFF. Everyone has to have a couple of cars, a big-screen TV, movie channels..

er...did you mean that everything else in is English, or were you just being funny?

Yup....I used to avoid sites that have popups, but since I switched to Mozilla I don't even have any idea which ones do, since I don't get any :-)
Of course, you'll probably listen to the CD a lot more than you'll watch the movie.
I dunno about you, but I don't watch the same movie over and over....I might listen to the same CD quite a bit, though.
(Although I always buy my CDs used anyway...cheaper)
What makes you think the RIAA pays taxes?
After all, according to them, they're losing millions..

Did anyone else read this as saying that the PHBs are being trained to use Segways?
And the downside of this for the telemarketers is?

Oh, I dunno...if they call during normal business hours, wouldn't most people be at work?
:-)
Not that I have any sympathy whatsoever for telemarketers....fortunately I live in Colorado so I don't get telemarketing calls

I did the exact same thing :-p
I have to say, the ebay scams are getting REALLY good; they're going to quite some lengths to make it look like the emails from from ebay.
Ebay seems to be attacking the problem; anyone who has an email-type username is required to change it or have it changed by ebay

One thing I regret is that I never found out how fast my car could go.
Some woman ran into me and wrecked it a few years ago, so now I'll never know..
>Looking at it meant taking one's eyes off of the road.
Which explains why you owned 6 new cars in 12 years...

First it says the squares are translucent. Then it says they don't impede the view. Which is it?
Yes...they're making an effort to make these decisions, on account of they could be arrested if they don't :-p

Internet is NOT an unnecessary expense :-)

uh...he specifically said that his students do not know how to program, so this is an intro to programming class..
So that's why I'm deaf...
:-)
my parents didn't buy me enough video games!
