For me, and probably for most of slashdot, customizing my interface/OS involves paring it down to only the features I use. If it were to remove the buttons/features that I never use, by itself, I would love that.
Or even better, only display the ones that I am likely to use (even if there are others that I often use), given the context of what I am currently viewing. (still have the non displayed ones in menus or something though, of course)
Maybe orwellian as in oligarchy (can two be an oligarchy?) in control of massive amounts of people?
Heh, and while those in charge do have power, they are still prisoners of their own system, because they have to sell themselves their own terrible product?
Or maybe it's just so richard parsons can call his house the ministry of love.
Computer companies have put the average consumer into a "PRES BUTAN TO INTERNET!!!" mindset, and it's a bit hard to get them out of it.
and then
You don't just take it out of the box and start pressing buttons
I think the reason it's so hard to get people out of that mindset is because people are told these things and are afraid they are going to irreparably harm their computer by experimenting with it. I mean, unless you actually physically break something, no matter what you do you are almost never going to damage the computer. Everything is fixable. It kills me to see people reading every little thing that pops up until they understand it, because they are afraid that one wrong click could mean the end of all existence.
I bet there is a maximum that the sensors can pick up. That said, do you do better if the sensor is not well attached to your head?
since the beginning of time.
Anyone have any insights as to the kind of education needed?
Right now I'm looking at CSE (comp. sci with some EE) and a chem minor and then grad/med school for some sort of neuroscience.
That last part is based on nothing at all though, I still have some time until I graduate.
(actually my real goal is to achieve world domination through my AI enhanced droid army)

Or, you could, you know, pay your bills.
essentially creating a dynamic "sky network."
When you put it in quotes like that, it makes me think of the jump to conclusions mat.
Even if it did make sense, what's the point?
You're absolutely right. Why don't you take his gun from him. Since, you know, you're someone special that strangers answer to you.
Come on grandpa. Everyone knows the slashdotting is now.
Because someone will own a piece of every idea.
And people will wonder why the US falls behind in tech.
Psh. Junior high? We still do that now.
Fine so long as I can claim the dependants.

Yeah, it's all becoming clear now.
What a coincidence. I just got back from being murdered by a multivariable calculus exam. Honestly now, who has used that in their career?
Based on absolutely no evidence at all:
I blame intellectual property, copyright, and patents.
Now you go.
tools.
This is all part of an alien conspiracy to bring the moon crashing down on us! Awaken to the truth before it's too late!
bastards.
Always wear your foil hat underneath a real hat, otherwise they'll know you know.
Ha ha. You don't have to beat the hooker to get your money back, but admit it, you've done it.
ooor wait for it to go down and buy.
That's the way it's spelled in the actual game.
I'm pretty sure that grammar is derived from "all yuor base are belong to us".
more than that, it's neigh impossible to tell a cheater from a non cheater unless you are good and have cheated yourself.
Not to mention that some movies I just like to have the sound going on in the background while I do something else.
