The two phrases in that sentence are unrelated. The American people voted. He received more electoral votes. The two were only loosely related. A more accurate sentence would have been:
Um, the Supreme Court voted, and he received more electoral votes than his competitors?
People want money. People invent scams to defraud other people of their money. People bribe legislators to legalize and entrench these scams, making even more money. The desire to make money drives fraud. Fraud needs no "push" from government, but it sure doesn't hurt...
Try addressing my point. I didn't say that what Israel is doing is good. I said the Nazis are bad. You're sig says what Hitler did is justifiable and justified. Care to back that up, or just keep calling Jews cavemen?
I noticed you didn't even try saying you're not an anti-Semite. Too filled with disgust for all the "barking" "cavemen" to even bother?
Adolf Hitler would be delighted to see plenty of justification for the shoah just by watching how israël acts
First gut response: You anti-Semitic scumbag.
More reasoned response: Israel's actions have been reprehensible. The fact that human rights have been abused as part of a war against an enemy using despicable means to destroy Israel and kill Israeli civilians is not a justification.
But you claim that Israel's actions are an ex post facto justification for the wholesale murder and extermination of six million innocents? See first gut response.
Okay Mr. Troll, I'll bite. First, what does the National Guard's being similar to a militia have to do with anything? Militia != lynch mob. Citizens serving in an authorized, state militia have quite a few more rights and responsibilities than civilians or "other people."
Second, the Soviet Union wasn't formed by spikes in trees. So? India wasn't formed by a crew of bloodthirsty revolutionaries. The Clean Air Act wasn't enacted by bombthrowing "anachists" on "LCD" either. Different revolutions use different approaches.
No that's not accurate. The government does not decide whether the media is allowed to show bin Laden tapes, or any others. The media may (and often has) decided to ask the government's advice on the matter. But that's voluntary.
If the "PATRIOT" law attempted to forbid the media from playing or printing information, that would be a law "abridging the freedom of the press."
Oh My God! File-sharing software is going to use my computer resources to share files?!
Look, many users (myself included) were pretty upset to find that Kazaa was installing a 3rd party software that would use my computers resources for their own purposes. But no one should be surprised that their computer (inclduing up to 10% of CPU power) will be used for the software's express purpose.
And if you don't want your machine to function as a super-node, they say:
If you do not want to serve as a SuperNode go to Tools->Options->Advanced and check Do not function as a SuperNode
If the search does turn out to be *completely* fruitless, they'll have to pay you. On the other hand, if the audit turns up *any* license violation, you're stuck with the bill. Wanna bet that there are zero unlicensed apps on any University box?
Which 'never had a problem with waste storage" nuclear plant.' do you mean? Since there is no long term storage facility for nuclear waste, so I'd think that all plants have problems with waste storage...
As he said, ship the parts and assemble at sea. How many ports can they watch? All the ports of our rivals and allies and "strategic partners"? (Saudi Arabia? Oman? India?) How closely do you think China or Russia let us watch their ports. (The shipment wouldn't come from the Russian gov't. But a terrorist group could use an out of the way port in Russia to assemble a deadly cargo.)
And if US intelligence is so vigilant and accurate as to block that by preventing the shipment of nuclear components, then there's not much risk that anyone will be able to put together a warhead atop an ICBM.
You either didn't read the article clearly, or are being deliberately deceptive.
In the article, the author refers to a number of scientists he knows by reputation. (e.g. "Two authors, S. L. Balinus and W. Soon, are credible astrophysicists...")
Clearly his statement "I couldn't find the names of anyone I knew" refers to people he knows personally, not by reputation.
And I'm surprised that your snide comment on a throwaway line was the best response you could come up with. After all, this is a somewhat well-known response to a polemic you cited.
You say that in a world without privacy people would be more accepting. Do you have any way of defending that assertion, or is it just wishful thinking?
Democracies don't go to war with each other?? You can go back well before Yugoslavia to find exceptions to this rule. How about the original democracies, the Greek city-states? There were plenty of wars between Athens, Sparta, et al.
More recently there have been fewer democracies. So it was less likely that they'd fight with each other. But Hitler and Milosevic, were both democratically elected. (And led their nations against other democracies.)
I believe the comment about your mother was in response to your subject line: Stop granting "things my mother does" patents. The poster then goes on to quote a technical part of the patent that your mother would presumably be unlikely to do/think up.
And yes, I think you are reading this wrong. IANAL either, but I think the patent is not on time warping in general, but on Tivo's specific implementation of it.
Oops, guess I got suckered. Thanks for the info.

C'mon, it's just a typo. I'm sure he meant W3C. Tweaking the WWW, now there's a challenge for you.
When I play Everquest I'm stealing fish?
Or...
People want money.
People invent scams to defraud other people of their money.
People bribe legislators to legalize and entrench these scams, making even more money.
The desire to make money drives fraud.
Fraud needs no "push" from government, but it sure doesn't hurt...
And we can get around that by using a space elevator to...wait a minute...
Oops, I'm at home and didn't realize I wasn't logged in. The above response is from me, not an AC.

Maybe I'm just short on caffeine this morning, but it looks like your sig boasts of your "elite bagel skills"?
The name of the town is Gurnee, not Guernee.
It's a minor typo, but amusing given the context.

I think you missed a decimal place there. 300*365 = $109,650. Not bad, but still in the same ballpark as honest work...
2001 wasn't as warm as 1653. 1653 is the beginning of recorded (temperature) history. So 2001 was the warmest year in recorded history.
Does that help
Would politics be to blame for the B1 that crashed a few minutes after take off last week?
