You have to be an idiot to say that. Why then you believe anything on anti-Microsoft web sites, does it make any sense not to believe something so blindly?
You are right, it is very hard to believe so called "geeks" to behave and think so irrationally that I don't know what is the difference between most of the people who post comments here and really stupid people who knows nothing and amuse themselves by stupid stuff.
Linux started to look like Macs, because Mac users were also loving their machines and operating systems like a holy thing. They were not able to think rationally and also they were not seeing the problems. It seems that history repeats itself.
I think you have no idea what does a profitable business mean.
If I have to hire a new employee just to make sure that I have everything correct, why the hell do I use a free software at the first hand. I would use Windows and don't care about anythingelse. One of the reasons why Linux doesn't have a great chance against Microsoft is that it is not as profitable as Microsoft software, and you just proved that by suggesting to hire a new employee. Don't you have any simple reasoning capability?
I couldn't understand this news, Java was also mandatory in many universities. I didn't see anybody complaining about that.
This decision will be a bad decision if only C# remains Windows only, otherwise C# is as good as Java.
I couldn't understand why people keep telling that DELL is successful at finding a loophole in the license agreement.
First of all there is no such loophole. Microsoft says that "Don't seel a machine without an OS". Are they aware of free Operating Systems? Yes. So they know that any such vendor can sell machines with one of those free OSes, including FreeDOS, Linux and so on. There is no loophole here. Everybody tries to amuse himself/herself by claiming that Dell found a loophole.
Another issue is that, Microsoft doesn't have to make much PR, because most of the accusations against Microsoft is unfounded, bogus and biased. News.com and including this site makes lots of claims against Microsoft and its products, and this became almost a tradition for them, a standard issue. I personally was hating Microsoft, and now I found myself defending it because of exaggarated claims and biased news. Now it is almost certain that any such news is false, incomplete, biased and so on.
The rules of any business is to make the right choices. For that reason, if you are tricked by news from News.com and some other sites about Microsoft, there is a strong possibility that you will loose. When you see that people which goes with Microsoft actually makes profit, you will turn to Microsoft too. This in turn means that, people will ultimately make the right choice about their software choices. If better products come Microsoft will loose, otherwise they will win.
My observation is that, they are extremely good at making software, far more better than any other option, including Linux. They are better organized, and they have more dedicated programmers. Although Microsoft violated some few rules, they are certainly good at what they are doing and the fact that other companies fail to compete with this giant can not be all attributed to some legal mistakes. Using news and other media, there are lots of people out there fighting actively with Microsoft, and in my mind they are doing very bad job, because everytime I see them lying, Microsoft becomes more innocent in my eye.
"It's a very creative interpretation of Microsoft's licensing terms, and one I imagine Microsoft didn't have in mind"
Oh, sure, of course they didn't think of it, DELL fooled Microsoft and now Microsoft is crying like a baby.
What a joke
Couldn't aggree more, but slashdot's best subject is anti-microsoft news, and it doesn't have to be from a trusted source, it can be even a rumor. The whole idea here is bashing Microsoft without any logic at all.
But on the other hand I had learned a lot from some of these anti-microsoft people that being a Linux geek may also mean a stupid guy who doesn't understand understand other technologies, who is stucked with certain political ideas, and may actually cause you loose lots of money by chooising the wrong technologies. So it is not so bad.
This is another Microsoft bashing, and it is stupid, wrong and biased.
Trying to show mails which people want to get as spam and then blame it on Hotmail is simply stupid. I don't receive spam in Hotmail at all. This is an attempt to discourage people from using Hotmail.
The only problem is that, because of these kind of stupid news against Microsoft, people become more and more close to Microsoft, and think that they are innocent in almost all cases. Most of those claims turn out to be wrong, especially intentionally misleading.
The xinet's benchmark results do not show any significant performance topics.
The two tests are :
Photoshop Open Tests and Output Generation Tests.
The first and the second is biased because it specifically uses photoshop which is better in certain cases for macs. It shows nothing for the real world.
You can find many other true benchmarks to compare Apple machines with Intel,AMD machines. Those benchmarks clearly show that Apple lacks a lot.
That's exactly true, but then if you compare, it looks like Apple is almost equal to Microsoft. This also is more cool who wants to bash Microsoft.
Your Score also reflects this. Even though Slashdot guys know that they are totally separate, different things, they don't give any score to posts which explain the situation.
What you are saying was wrong many many years ago. But now everybody knows that when you press right button, a popup menu will come. This became a standard and so there is nothing to learn about. It is automatic and it is the same for a mouse whell. People learn these things very quickly, and at the time Apple was right of course, because in those times, tasks to do in a computer was simpler, and people were just learning how to work with a computer. Now, it is absolutely nonsense to say that right mouse button actually slows you. This is simply not true anymore.
I don't know about the Mac users in general, but this report, which is published by a company that receives money support from Apple is the dumbest report ever.
Mac users are smarter, but what about Linux users. They are far more smarter than an average Mac user of course.
This report is given credit by News.com which is totally biased against Microsoft, but why is it here?

Linux may never become Windows replacement at all. The beauty of Linux is mostly because geeks can use it, change it anyway they want. Not that it is easy to use, but it is mostly possible to modify.
Can someone explain me,
even though there are bunch of anti-microsoft news each day why the hell these microsoft guys are still evil?
Can it be that, there is nothing particularly evil about them, or is it some of the news that I hear are actually nothing but crap!
Wake up guys, be REASONABLE. Yesterday there was news that says "Microsoft urged retialiation against companies which support Linux" If you read it, you see that, it is something which is proposed by a Microsoft employee, but it is not certain whether Microsoft adopted the policy or not. But the title says, no "Microsoft did it". !!!! There is no facts on most of these anti-Microsoft news. They try to twist the facts.
This is a really cool product. But the stock market currently says that Palm is doomed. Palm should make great advancements in their Operating System, otherwise I don't think that they will stand a chance to Microsoft in the future. As the technology develops, pocket PC devices may be quite competitive in terms of portability and battery life which I believe is the number one reason behind the trend for Palm devices.
Linux may also be a good competitor in this area, but the flagship product of Linux, Sharp Zaurus, seems to be not so successful, if successful at all.
Can you imagine what would happen if it was Microsoft.
The whole media will show nothing but this. That at least shows how biased people are against Microsoft?
Obviously nobody thinks about this, but running a program stripped off from certain properties is almost always possible. The question is not technically running it is possible or not, but is it possible in a practical way.
You can strip down KDE from its window manager components and plug in a new window manager, but will this make sense, will it be useful for the consumers?
For so many years, we had different kinds of window managers in X Window, and finally we are heading to what? A consistent desktop, with a window manager that comes up with its own file manager and so on.
How do you know that Sun will continue to do this? Are you sure that Sun will never profit from Java. Sun controls Java, and it is in purpose. They will one day try to profit from it, and News.com had an article about this in the previous months.
Also it doesn't make sense to profile people based on which community they belong to. Cetainly this is not the spirit of the open source!

There is nothing here, but I guess because they couldn't find any real issue, they just brought this thing up.
Shame on you! If are really consistent with your views, and you are not a simple Microsoft basher, bring up real issues which worths to discuss.
Microsoft is logging your internet, but it doesn't send anything to internet, but some malicious program may send it, but that malicious program may not send your Bookmarks, or somethingelse, maybe there is no such a malicious program at all, but maybe there is. What's this? Are you basing your claims against a company based on assumptions, future predictions without any logical base?
I think you don't live in this planet anymore. Did you hear something called intranets? Corporate PCs uses browser heavily. It is one of the fundemantal aspects of any Operating System now. Can you think any OS without any browser available for it. No way, it is totally useless.
Every company does that, discounts, free upgrades and so on. What is wrong with that.
You have to be an idiot to say that. Why then you believe anything on anti-Microsoft web sites, does it make any sense not to believe something so blindly?
