I didn't think about the problem of having to monitor if the software is working or not.
Other than that I think these companies seem to be accepting the fact that nobody wants to pay high prices for software that is going to become obsolete in matter of months. At least that is the impression I got. Now that they realize that nobody want to pay, they need to find a better strategy of making money. First of all, subscription might be OK for a lot of non-geeks that do not care about their software not being theirs. They just want software that can help them with what ever they are doing.

Wouldn't a suscription method mean that we are going into the direction of a free software method in which we only pay for support and other related services?

I went to google and tried a search for "walmart customers and IQ." It didn't find any pages that suggest that walmart customers are stupid. At least that has has facts you can trust. There were 2 links that had other people say that Walmart customers are stupid. Unfortunately I do not believe them. Hell, I don't even know who they are and/or if they are researchers, professors, or any one doing some kind of study about the IQ's of walmart customers.

If what you are trying to say is that walmart customers in general have a lower education level. Then this could be debatable. But a lower education level is not the same as being stupid.

not everything about the philosophy needs to be skiped. I think it's important to explain that it has a philosophy of "lots of small and specialized programs work better than one bloated program." For example in linux/unix lot's of programs are just really a frontend for several small programs that are very specialized. For example a program tu burn cd, might use cdrecord to burn, mpg123 to hear the mp3 files you have chosen, an encoder/decoder to convert it to a wav file, etc, etc. It's not one big program that tries to do everything.
